Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"Is this a daily reward?" Liu Chen thought excitedly.

He soon realized that while he could obtain treasure boxes every day, the rewards from these wooden chests were not particularly massive. However, for him, even these small gains were hard-earned and useful. Compared to the other treasures he cherished, perhaps this daily support would provide the steady foundation he needed.

Despite the temptation to explore further, Liu Chen decided to continue attending the academy. It was necessary "homework" to avoid raising suspicion among the elders and his peers. He had to maintain the facade of an ordinary student.

For the other treasure boxes he had looted, he was no longer as desperate to open them immediately. He knew all too well that with his current cultivation, even the best rewards could not be transformed into true strength in an instant. It was better to wait for the right moment.

After the day's lessons concluded, Liu Chen couldn't wait any longer. He slipped out of the village and headed toward Qing Mao Mountain to continue his search for the location of the Flower Wine Monk's inheritance.

Liu Chen shuttled through the rugged mountains and dense forests, his eyes as sharp as a torch, not sparing any corner that might hide the demonic legacy. However, as time passed, he was still unable to find any trace of the hidden grounds.

Just as he was looking around, slightly dazed, his eyes suddenly lit up. He saw a treasure box looming in his sight not far away.

"It's actually a Purple treasure box!" Liu Chen's heart hammered against his ribs in shock.

He walked toward it and examined it carefully. This was the first time he had seen a box of this type. It took on a deep Purple color, appearing as if it were carved from a single piece of mystical crystal, exuding an alluring and mysterious light.

The Purple treasure box was hidden behind a small waterfall. Through the shimmering water curtain, the purple light was still clearly visible. Seeing this, Liu Chen accelerated his pace and reached the edge of the waterfall. He reached out and tucked the box tightly into his inventory.

"Obtained Purple Treasure Box x1."

Liu Chen was secretly jubilant. He knew that this Purple box must have a direct connection to the Flower Wine Monk's legacy. "This must be the place. Thanks to this box, I've saved myself an untold amount of time."

He scanned the area and saw that behind the waterfall lay a massive rock wall. Behind the wall was a narrow gap that could only accommodate one person passing through. Liu Chen carefully squeezed into the crevice, which was just wide enough for him to move. He hunched over and moved forward inch by inch, wary of hitting his head on the jagged rocks above or tripping over the uneven stones underfoot.

After about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the passage gradually widened. Liu Chen breathed a sigh of relief, straightened his back, and continued walking. Finally, he reached the end of the tunnel and entered a cavern the size of a large room.

At the end of the cave was a monolithic rock. Three grass type Gu were growing along the edge of the stone wall. These Gu resembled Venus flytraps, their leaves slightly open as if waiting for prey. Furthermore, they emitted a faint, intoxicating aroma of wine.

Liu Chen observed them closely and recognized them: Wine Sack Flower Gu. Once activated, these Gu could absorb the qi of the earth to produce a sweet, high quality liquor.

However, when Liu Chen's gaze drifted next to these flowers, his expression turned solemn. Lying there quietly was a corpse that had been reduced to a pile of white bones. Judging from the shape of the skeleton and the surrounding environment, it was clearly the remains of the Flower Wine Monk.

"I didn't expect even more unexpected gains!"

Before he had even approached the remains, he saw two more purple treasure boxes floating there. To find three purple boxes in one place was beyond his wildest dreams. He did not hesitate to pocket them immediately.

At that moment, a low voice suddenly echoed through the cavern, vibrating with murderous intent: "Try moving again!"

Liu Chen spun around. The monolithic rock had been transformed into a massive "screen wall" by the shadow and sound traps arranged by the Flower Wine Monk. It began to project images of the past a cinematic record of history.

It was the scene where the Fourth Generation Clan Leader of the Gu Yue clan knelt down to beg for mercy, only to take the opportunity to sneak attack the Flower Wine Monk. The treacherous act played out on the stone wall like a movie.

However, the revelation had no impact on Liu Chen. After all, he was not an ordinary Gu Yue tribesman; he was a transmigrator from a modern society. He didn't care whether the Fourth Generation Leader was a hero or a coward; the clan's "shameful history" meant nothing to him.

His mind remained unaffected, and his attention shifted back to the three Wine Sack Flower Gu. There was a high probability that these grubs were hiding the prize he truly sought!

He looked closely at the flowers and found that they were filled with wine. Liu Chen reasoned that the Liquor Worm must be submerged within.

Without hesitation, he reached into the middle Wine Sack Flower and found a tiny creature intoxicated by the spirits. He carefully used two fingers to remove the Gu and placed it in his palm.

The Liquor Worm was milky white all over and emitted a light aroma that made Liu Chen feel slightly tipsy just by smelling it. A surge of joy flooded his heart as he looked at the "cute" little worm. While he still needed to find the inheritance hidden beneath the rock, he knew the value of this Rank 1 Gu was immense for a beginner.

Satisfied, Liu Chen took the Liquor Worm and returned to the academy dormitory. However, instead of starting the refinement immediately, he sat down to calm himself.

There was a practical reason for his delay. He was still a student and had to spend most of his time at the academy every day. Refining a Gu was not a simple task; once the process began, it required total concentration and could not be stopped. He needed to plan his time carefully to ensure no one discovered his secret.
