Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Prank Got Way Too Real

Zhu touched Mengnan's hand.

It was ice cold — like a corpse's.

"Ah! Mengnan! Mengnan! Don't scare me!" Zhu screamed.

She shook Mengnan as hard as she could, but there was no response.

"C'mon, kid, this beggar's just scamming. Ignore her."

Zhu bit her lip.

Her family had more money than they could spend. She had no reason to scam anyone.

But this time, they'd gone way too far.

Only the two of them had come out, no bodyguards.

She couldn't say that out loud — not with so many strangers around.

If someone with bad intentions figured it out, things would only get worse.

No matter how she shook her, Mengnan wouldn't wake up.

"This is bad! She's really sick!"

Zhu immediately pulled out her phone and dialed emergency services.

Kayson rushed forward. "She was struck by a wandering spirit. Only I can cure her! I can't just let her die!"

He raised his hand and began slapping gently but firmly on Mengnan's forehead.

"Get away from her!" Zhu grabbed a brick from the ground and threw it at him. "Drop dead!"

Kayson ducked, dodging the brick, and kept patting Mengnan's Niwan Palace acupoint on her forehead.

"Madman!"

The onlookers couldn't stand it anymore and started shouting.

"Escaped from a mental hospital?"

"The beggar's already like this, and you're hitting her? You'll kill her!"

Everyone looked down on the beggar girl, but they hated Kayson's fake healing even more.

After patting, Kayson gathered the evil energy to her forehead and placed a control talisman on it.

Zhu snapped, "Loser! Useless live-in husband! You're just a cook! How dare you treat people?!"

Zhu thought: This guy's even crazier than Mengnan.

Mengnan dressed up to test people, and now this guy played doctor.

A cook trying to heal a young clan leader.

She knew Mengnan was really ill now,

but she wasn't about to let some idiot mess with her.

If he hurt her, Zhou Min would skin her alive.

Zhou Min was away in the Imperial Capital,

so Mengnan had been running wild at home.

Zhu stepped forward to rip the talisman off Mengnan's forehead.

"Don't touch her!"

Kayson pulled her back. "I'm curing her!"

Sophia also stepped over, grabbed Kayson's clothes, and tugged him away. "Come home with me!"

"I can't leave! She'll die if I go!" Kayson explained.

"You're insane!" Sophia snapped.

Everyone watched the three of them arguing and pulling each other around the beggar like a circus act.

Sophia's face turned icy. "Kayson, I'm asking you one last time — are you coming or not?"

It was a final ultimatum.

Kayson's face reddened. "Let me save her first, then I'll go with you."

He looked down at the girl on the ground and strangely thought of his own past.

When his mother was dying, no one cared either. Maybe it was the same for her.

Just then, an ambulance wailed to a stop.

A team of doctors in white coats rushed out.

A middle-aged man with slicked-back hair stepped out.

Zhu walked over and whispered to Dean Sun, writing in his palm: Young Leader of Skyline Group.

Sun Zhonghai's eyes shrank in shock.

He nearly fell over.

He knew Zhou Min of Skyline Group had a wild daughter

who loved dressing up as a handsome boy and causing trouble.

Not long ago, a girl had fallen for her act, slit her wrists, and he'd saved her.

Mengnan hadn't cared one bit and kept doing whatever she wanted.

And now this beggar was her?

Why was she wearing these rags?

Obviously, another stupid prank.

He didn't dare expose her identity.

He noticed she had no bodyguards, only her best friend.

The crowd was already packed three layers deep.

If something happened to her, he'd never live it down.

He put on a serious face and began checking Mengnan's pulse and breathing.

Kayson quickly spoke up.

"She's been invaded by evil energy from a departed spirit. We have to dispel it — there's no other way to cure her."

Mengnan slowly opened her eyes.

Above her was a worried young face.

Early twenties, short hair, cheap clothes,

but his eyes burned bright with concern for her.

A faint smile appeared on Mengnan's face.

She was dressed like a beggar too, so she didn't mock his outfit.

Slap!

Sun Zhonghai ripped the talisman off Mengnan's forehead and tossed it aside.

Mengnan trembled, then turned even weaker.

She couldn't speak, only stared fixedly at Kayson.

No one understood what she meant.

"Quick! Oxygen!" Sun Zhonghai shouted.

"Ventilator!

Prepare the defibrillator!"

He frantically ordered his team to treat her on the spot: chest compressions, shocks, breathing tubes.

But on the heart monitor, the waves grew smaller and smaller, nearly flatlining.

Kayson said, "You're wasting precious time!

This isn't a physical illness — it's spiritual!

A hearse passed by earlier, and she was lying in the road. The spirit inside was angered and possessed her."

"Nonsense!"

Dr. Qin, Sun Zhonghai's student, sneered.

"Do you know who you're talking to?

This is Medicine King Sun Huichun!"

"Medicine King Sun?!"

"The Medical King?!"

Everyone in the crowd gasped in shock.

In Aster City, there were Four Great Medical Kings:

Medicine King Sun Zhonghai, Pharmacy King Yao Wushuang, Needle King Qin Yizhen, and Poison King Ouyang Kang.

People pointed at Kayson.

"Loser! The Medicine King is here, and you say his treatment is wrong?!"

"The Medicine King's word is truth!"

"Get lost before you talk more nonsense!"

Kayson said, "She's possessed by evil energy, but you're using normal medical methods. You can't suppress it! You'll kill her!"

Dr. Qin flew into a rage. "Kayson, you useless idiot! How dare you curse my master?!"

Sun Zhonghai stared at Kayson with his hands behind his back.

"Are you a doctor? I've never heard of you."

"I'm not a doctor," Kayson said honestly.

"Then is it family tradition?"

"Neither."

Sun Zhonghai snapped: "You're nothing but a cleaner and cook. What gives you the right to speak? Step aside!"

Kayson looked at him and said calmly:

"When you sleep at night, does your right leg twitch uncontrollably?

And do you make a muffled humming sound?

About once every three minutes?"

Sun Zhonghai's jaw dropped.

How could this guy know?

It was true. He'd had this symptom for years.

He'd even tried treating himself.

Kayson went on: "You only use zinc-fortified salt when you cook, right?"

Sun Zhonghai nodded. "Yes. I've used it for three years."

"That's the problem. You've overdosed on zinc, causing central nervous system issues.

Your motor and sensory functions are damaged — that's why your leg twitches at night.

Stop using zinc salt, and the symptoms will be gone in seven days."

Sun Zhonghai stood frozen in shock.

His hidden illness had been exposed instantly,

and he'd even been given a cure.

He'd never been able to figure it out himself.

His student refused to back down.

"Master, if we let someone with no medical training treat her, you'll take all the blame!"
