Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Guidance of Destiny

The afternoon sun beat down mercilessly on the Ninja Academy training grounds, turning the track into a shimmering ribbon of heat.

"Alright, everyone, eyes on me!" Ibuki-sensei barked, standing with his hands on his hips. "This afternoon is all about physical conditioning. I want everyone lined up and ready for laps."

"Sensei, how many are we talking about?" Obito asked, raising a hand while wiping sweat from his goggles.

"Five laps to start. Consider it a warm-up."

A collective groan echoed through the class, heavy with the despair only five-year-olds can feel when denied a nap. Ibuki-sensei ignored them, pointing toward the start line. "Ready... go!"

A dozen children surged forward. Obito took an immediate lead, shouting at the top of his lungs, "The road to Hokage starts with this track! Watch me go!"

Guy was right on his heels, tears of inspiration streaming down his face. "Youth! I can feel the friction of Youth beneath my feet!"

Kakashi moved with a silent, practiced grace, his light steps carrying him effortlessly toward the front of the pack.

Shinchan was buried somewhere in the middle, shuffling along with a distinct lack of urgency. "Hey, Tetsu," he panted, looking toward Che Uchiha. "Why are we in such a rush? The dirt isn't going anywhere."

"Focus, Shinchan," Che whispered, his breathing steady and controlled. "Keep your pace consistent. Don't waste energy talking."

"I hear you, I hear you. It just feels like a lot of effort for a circle."

By the end of the first lap, Shinchan was wobbling, his knees buckling with every step. By the second lap, he looked like a man who had seen the afterlife and wasn't impressed. But halfway through the third lap, his eyes suddenly snapped wide open.

"Tetsu."

"What now?" Che wheezed.

"Look. Over there." Shinchan raised a shaky finger, pointing toward the neighboring training field.

Che glanced over. "That's just the other class."

"No... look at the teacher."

"What about her?"

Shinchan's face transformed. The exhaustion vanished, replaced by an expression of profound, soul-piercing seriousness. "She is a total babe."

Che: "..."

"A world-class, top-tier beauty," Shinchan added, his voice breathless with awe.

Che remained silent for two seconds before picking up his pace. "So? She's a teacher. Keep running."

"I believe," Shinchan said, his legs suddenly stabilizing, "that I have just experienced a fated encounter."

"A what?"

Before Che could process the sentence, the wobbling kid beside him simply... ignited. Shinchan's short legs began to spin like the blades of a high-speed fan. He blurred into a streak of red and yellow, moving with the velocity of a runaway gale.

Che froze in his tracks. "Wait... I thought he was dying?"

Ibuki-sensei was busy marking times on his clipboard when a sudden "whoosh" sent his papers flying. He looked up just in time to see a blur of red-hot speed tear past him.

"What in the world?!"

The blur screamed around the bend, catching up to Kakashi in seconds. As Shinchan zoomed past the silver-haired prodigy, a casual voice drifted through the wind: "Pardon me, Masky. Coming through!"

By the time Kakashi realized he'd been overtaken by a kindergartner in yellow shorts, Shinchan had already crossed the finish line and was veering off-course toward the neighboring class.

Behind them, Guy saw the red streak and felt his heart swell. "That speed! That's the Gale of Youth!" Guy roared, his green jumpsuit practically glowing as he pushed his legs into overdrive.

Obito, seeing both of them pass him, felt a surge of competitive panic. "No way! I'm the one who's going to be Hokage! I'm not losing to the kid who hates peppers!" With a desperate howl, he joined the frantic sprint.

The rest of the class watched in total confusion as the four of them tore across the grounds like a pack of wild animals.

Meanwhile, the neighboring class had just finished lining up when a small boy in a red shirt skidded to a halt in front of their instructor, his heels kicking up a cloud of dust.

Shinchan stood there, hands behind his back, wearing a grin that could be seen from space. "Big Sister, you are absolutely stunning."

The female teacher blinked, looking down at the tiny intruder. She was completely caught off guard.

"My name is Nohara Shinchan," he continued, unfazed. "I'm five, I'm in Class A, and I'm a Gemini. What's your name, beautiful? Where do you live? And more importantly, do you have a boyfriend, or is there a vacancy in your heart?"

The teacher's mouth twitched, but she managed to maintain a professional smile. "Well... hello there, little one. I'm Yuginagi Asagi. I teach the class next door."

Shinchan clutched his chest dramatically. "Asagi... your name is already tattooed on my soul. Would you be willing to wait for me to hit my growth spurt? I'll become the greatest ninja ever just to protect you. We can have a house with a big yard and no green peppers."

Asagi's smile froze.

Just then, Guy and Obito arrived, sliding to a stop beside him. Guy gave a shaking thumbs-up, his teeth glinting through his heavy breathing. "This... this is the sprint of passion!"

Obito just collapsed, face-planting into the grass. "I... I think I see the light..."

The three of them stood (or lay) in a row, forming the most bizarre welcoming committee the neighboring class had ever seen. Asagi took a deep breath. "You three are from Class A, right? Why did you abandon your training?"

Shinchan looked at her with wide, sparkling eyes. "Because when I saw you, my legs started moving on their own. It was like destiny was pulling my hamstrings. Big Sister, do you believe in fate?"

"I—"

"I do," Shinchan interrupted, clenching a tiny fist. "Destiny brought us together. Also, tell me truthfully: how do you feel about green peppers? If you hate them too, we're basically soulmates."

"NOHARA SHINCHAN! MIGHT GUY! UCHIHA OBITO!"

Ibuki-sensei's voice thundered across the playground. He was marching toward them, his face a terrifying shade of purple.

Shinchan glanced back, then whispered quickly to Asagi, "That's my cue. It's a promise then, Asagi-chan! I'll come back to marry you once I'm tall enough to reach the top shelf!"

With that, he spun around and darted back to his own track with the same incredible speed.

Ibuki-sensei arrived a moment later, looking like he wanted to punch a tree. "I am so incredibly sorry, Asagi-sensei. I'll make sure they're properly disciplined."

Asagi tried to keep a straight face, but her shoulders were shaking with suppressed laughter. "It's quite alright, Ibuki. Your students are... definitely unique."

Ibuki sighed, his shoulders sagging as he turned to lead the stragglers back. Behind him, Asagi finally lost the battle and burst out laughing. That child is going to be a handful, she thought.

Back on the track, Shinchan had returned to his lazy, strolling pace, a dreamy look in his eyes. "Yuginagi Asagi... what a classy name."

Che caught up to him, looking completely exhausted. "You ran that fast just to go hit on a teacher?"

"It wasn't hitting on her," Shinchan corrected him, his tone surprisingly dignified. "It was an investment in our future."

"..."

"Tetsu, do you think she liked me?"

Che sighed, staring ahead. "I think she'd like you more if you could finish a lap without causing an international incident."

"So she does care about my performance!" Shinchan's eyes lit up. "She's already invested in my career. Tetsu, you're a genius."

Che decided then and there that silence was his only defense.

The sun continued to bake the playground as Ibuki-sensei's roars echoed through the air:

"Shinchan, stop blowing kisses at the other field!"

"Guy, stop crying! You're making the track slippery!"

"Obito, the finish line is that way! THAT WAY!"

It was just another typical afternoon at the Leaf Village Ninja Academy.
