Chapter 5 - Buggy’s First Half of Life

Just as the World Government, the Marines, and even the Yonko crews were still evaluating the shocking information, the heavenly screen spoke again—

This time, it began recounting Buggy's hidden past.

[Before the age of ten, Buggy had already boarded the ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.]

[He participated in the great naval battle against Shiki the Golden Lion.]

[He fought in clashes against the Whitebeard Pirates.]

[Having experienced thousands of battles from a young age, he forged a patient and enduring nature—something that would greatly shape his future.]

[Buggy obtained the Chop-Chop Fruit during one of these battles.]

[However, his original intention was simply to sell it for money.]

[At the time, his dream was merely to find treasure—he had not yet awakened Conqueror's Haki.]

[Fate played its first joke on him.]

[He deceived his crewmates into thinking he had eaten the fruit, when in reality he had only pretended to do so.]

[Planning to secretly sell the real fruit later, he hid near the ship—only to be startled by Red-Haired Shanks.]

[In that instant, he accidentally swallowed the Devil Fruit.]

[That accident changed his life forever.]

[From then on, he could never swim again.]

[But fate was not finished with him.]

[As they neared the final island, this battle-hardened warrior suddenly fell ill.]

[Because of him, Shanks also did not reach the final island.]

[Gol D. Roger left all his treasure on that island—Laugh Tale.]

[The One Piece… truly exists!!!]

[Before reaching the final island, Roger had already learned he was terminally ill.]

[No treatment could save him.]

[He revealed this to his crew and voluntarily disbanded the Roger Pirates.]

[The crew scattered across the seas.]

[Later, he turned himself in to Marine Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp.]

[While imprisoned, he made a certain request—one that Garp accepted… planting the seeds of future disaster.]

[The Marines proudly claimed they had captured the Pirate King.]

[In truth, they deceived the entire world.]

[They sought to establish authority—yet unknowingly fell into Roger's trap.]

[At the moment of his execution, Roger spoke words that shook the world.]

[He ushered in the Great Pirate Era—giving all pirates a clear goal:]

[The One Piece.]

[Whoever finds it will become the next Pirate King.]

[At Roger's execution in Loguetown, Buggy and Shanks watched from below.]

[They witnessed the death of the man they admired most.]

[It dealt a heavy blow to Shanks, leaving him lost about his future.]

[Roger had entrusted his straw hat to Shanks—passing on his will.]

[Buggy understood this clearly.]

[He always knew the vast gap between himself and Shanks.]

[Yet after Roger's death… Shanks's resolve wavered.]

[In truth, Shanks did not inherit Roger's will immediately.]

[On that rainy night after the execution, Buggy saw Shanks at his most lost.]

[Because of this, Buggy severed ties with him.]

[He refused Shanks's invitation to join his crew.]

[That night, Buggy stood alone in the rain…]

[And at dawn—he awakened Conqueror's Haki.]

[At first, Buggy only wanted to become a pirate captain—free to roam the seas and search for treasure.]

[But after fate's two cruel jokes, he changed—inside and out.]

[For over twenty years, he remained in the East Blue.]

[Hidden in obscurity, he continuously developed his Devil Fruit abilities… waiting for the right moment.]

[Buggy does not wish to become Pirate King.]

[He wants to remove the shackles of this world.]

[To plunge it into absolute freedom—freedom without restraint.]

[And such freedom inevitably leads to chaos.]

[After Roger's Great Pirate Era, Buggy will push the world into an even darker age.]

[After more than twenty years of patience… everything changed when he met a boy wearing a straw hat.]

[Seeing Monkey D. Luffy's adventurous spirit and his declaration to become Pirate King…]

[Buggy saw Roger's shadow in him.]

[Faced with the successor chosen by Shanks… Buggy felt satisfied.]

[And so—he continued to act weak.]

[Allowing himself to be "easily defeated" by Luffy.]

[Upon witnessing the emergence of Roger's true successor… Buggy realized the time had come.]

[After decades of planning… his grand scheme was finally ready to begin.]

As the narration played, scenes unfolded across the heavenly screen.

Images of pirates flashed by—

And most notably, the boy who inherited the Pirate King's will.

Battle scenes of both sides were shown in detail.

In the final scene—

Buggy was reduced to nothing more than a head, hands, and feet.

Meanwhile, Luffy stretched his rubber arms and effortlessly blasted him away.

But now—

Everyone understood.

That was all an act.

A perfect performance of weakness.

For the first time, the world witnessed what it meant to be a true schemer.

On the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crew stood frozen in shock.

Roronoa Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Nami—

And most importantly—

Monkey D. Luffy—

All had their own close-up moments displayed on the screen.

"Ah! I was tricked!" Luffy shouted excitedly, standing on deck with his arms raised.

"I didn't think Buggy was that strong! If I see him again, I'll make him fight seriously!"

Still as carefree as ever.

Still the same reckless protagonist.

Then—

BAM!

Nami's fist slammed into Luffy's rubber face, leaving a huge lump.

"You idiot! If you go after him again, you'll die! The only reason he let you go was because of his connection to Shanks!"

Even as she scolded him, fear lingered in her heart.

She had stolen from someone far more terrifying than Arlong.

She had emptied Buggy's entire treasure stash.

Not a single coin left behind.

And now—

That scene was playing on the heavenly screen for the entire world to see.

Nami's face turned pale.

Looking at her past self's greedy expression, she wished she could go back in time and beat herself up.

"Why did I have to steal from someone like that…?"

She even began considering whether she should return the treasure.

Being targeted by someone like Buggy—

She wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully ever again.

Zoro, meanwhile, recalled his fight with Cabaji.

"A monster like him… recruiting such weak subordinates just to maintain his disguise…"

"He really committed to the act."

Luffy quietly took off his straw hat.

Memories of Shanks surfaced in his mind.

"At Foosha Village, I met everyone on Shanks's ship," he said.

"In the end, he entrusted this hat to me… and that's what made me decide to become Pirate King."

On the Going Merry—

Some rejoiced.

Some worried.

And just like that—

The name Buggy had officially entered the world's spotlight.
