Chapter 1 - What Was The Story?

"Stories are meant to be written, told, passed down to next generations. But some stories... Even though are great, meant not to be passed down"

"But why mom? Aren't stories supposed to help us learn? That's what you and Mrs. Kim told as well"

Calem's curiosity took a turn when his mother slowly took an old book which looked jagged and roughed up. It was brown and pale which seemed like a diary but also had a hand made drawing of a man holding a gun on it's cover page with no title whatsoever. So thick that the little boy's hands couldn't even hold it. The lady in her late 30's with a gorgeous face as if being an angel that descended upon earth and ginger hair falling from her head reaching down to her waist with a marriage ring in her ring finger. She took the old rough brick of a book from his sweet gentle hands and slowly placed it down back in the bookshelf of Calem's father.

After which she gently stroked his head, looked at him with her beautiful blue eyes and told him-

"I know honey, but it's not meant for you... not right now atleast"

Calem's face drooped down in a kind of way that would make anyone laugh of cuteness after which he pouted, his also blue eyes looked down as if someone stole his favorite thing from him. Sure Calem was a very obedient and calm boy unlike children of his age, the only problem he had was his curiosity.

Calem's mother lifted up and carried the 8 year old lovely boy with short hair, charming eyes that could catch anyone's heart who looks into them out of the room and placed him down in the living room of their relatively medium sized house alongside his little sister of 6 years old.

"Why do you always haw to go to that room, come and playyy with me"

Nira grumpily told to Calem as their mother was putting him down. She was indeed six but her tongue used to twist from time to time when she used to speak which led to some childish pronunciation. Calem stayed quiet at first and waited for their mother to go back to doing chores.

As their mother left smiling at the sight of her two kids adorably arguing, she glanced back the the book inside the glass shelf in her husband's room. As if that book had something that the children shouldn't see.

Her smile faded almost instantly and a serious look flushed on her face before her hand reached out on the door and shut it close. She sighed deeply before going back to the kitchen and acted as if there was not something bothering her mind constantly.

But indeed there was a thing bothering her. Or perhaps.. a story. A story of their own.

A Story That Should Not Be Passed Down.

Calem waited till his mother went into the kitchen after which he turned to his sister and whispered

"You don't get it Nira, Mom is trying to hide something from us. And I'm trying to find out what she's hiding"

"But doesn't sheee does things for ourh own good?" Nira replied

"Yes but..." Calem looked down and groaned a little. The boy didn't knew how to control his curiosity and also didn't have an answer for his sister's question. After all he was still a child.

"You won't get iiiit. Fine I'll go check again myself. And this time I'm gonna be ninja sneaky" saying that the cute boy did a ninja pose which he used to watch cartoons of on the television and crouched slowly back to the same room. Nira on the other hand still sitting down on the floor with a pony tail on her head started looking at Calem with her same blue eyes in confusion as if wanting to say that why was he like this. After a few seconds she went back to playing with her scattered colorful blocks layed around on the floor mat.

The boy started sneaking past two rooms until he finally reached his father's room which he was not allowed to enter very often. As his tiny hand slowly started to reach towards the door handle he heard a loud ring from the kitchen which scared the living daylights out of the poor kid. Fortunately Calem had inherited many of his father's skills. He was courageous, smart and brave enough to not scream even though he got scared for his life.

In the kitchen Marie or Rather Marie William looked at her phone which was ringing, smiled joyfully after seeing that someone dear to her heart was calling, picked up the phone and joyfully yet adorably said loudly in her cute voice.

"Hellooooo honeyyy"

Calem narrowed his eyebrows. And sighed

"Dad why did you have to call right now and scare me so much" obviously the kid had heard the way his mom screamed out that Hello in the phone and guessed right about it being his dad.

But he didn't care much either way because right now his curiosity couldn't hold out any longer. After successfully sneaking inside the room he felt refreshed as if he had accomplished something big.

5 minutes later, the same old book was in Calem's hand after dusting it and sliding of the dirt on top of it. Calem took a deep breathe and opened the book. "Here goes nothing" he said to himself

The book was older than all of the books in his dad's collection. The pages were slight yellow and wrinkles some even had signs of being burnt or being submerged in water.

It was clear that the book wasn't ordinary and had experienced a lot which definitely didn't had a story that an 8 year old should read but still after knowing all this, Calem chose to give it a go.

The first page of the book seemed as if it was a diary it had a date and the writer was speaking in first person

12th April, 2031

"I decided to start a diary. Pretty exciting for me as its a first time experience. I mean I'm already 17 and it's weird to start a diary right now but eh who cares-"

"2031?" Calem couldn't believe himself. He started counting with his fingers one by one and instantly dropped the book from his hands.

"21 years ?!" He couldn't believe himself "this book was written 21 YEARS AGO?! WOW"

The child couldn't control his emotions and unknowingly had screamed out loud. It wasn't before 2 whole minutes when the poor kid realised this as his mother was right behind him with her hands crossed and fumes of anger going off from her head. After which she yelled at him "CALEEEEEEM"

Calem soon realised after his beating that there was something seriously off with that book. Not only that but there was something off about his parent's last that they never shared with the two kids. Nira wasn't as matured as Calem was so she couldn't care less.

Time passes quickly. The happy family of four spent many times together and eventually years passed and Calem finally was about to turn 17. The book Calem wanted was kept away somewhere in the house where Calem couldn't find by his parents so eventually the boy lost interest in the book. Even at this age Calem was very much as matured as if like an adult.

It was mid of may in 2061 Calem was talking with his college friends in his room on call. He seemed very happy and were planning on going to a trip out of state when all of a sudden one of his friends said

"Guys uhh I think my parents want to talk about something to talk about with me... please wish me luck guys" saying so he disconnected from the call. And almost at the same time-

"Wait a minute guys my parents want to see me as well. Huh that's weird but anyway ill talk to you guys later" said his other friend.

And not only them but the whole friend group of Calem used the same excuse to cut the call. Something felt weird about this all. And almost instantly as Calem put his phone down on his bed he was sitting on, Marie walked in with Nira. After which their mother told Nira to sit beside Calem.

Calem got confused and sat upright about what this was all about.

"You remember the book Calem? The one you always tried to read as a child?"

"Uh yes mom but why are you bringing that up right now" Calem seemed confused but inside his curiosity that had been died down as a child, reignited.

"I think it is time to tell you the story"

Said Marie closing her eyes.

Both the children couldn't believe themselves. Even Nira couldn't hold herself back from asking about the book. Calem on the other hand was so happy he couldn't express it.

Calem clenched his hands in excitement which were trembling continuously and tried to hide his smile.

"Th-th-then what are you waiting for"

"Hold on Calem, it isn't the type of story you would expect it to be son"

Marie didn't seem very happy about telling the story to her children. In fact she seemed a little weirded out

It felt as if she HAD to tell them this story. Not out of her own will.

"It's your father's decision that you guys get passed onto this story" she sighed

Both the children got confused. Their father always restricted them from even touching his shelf at all yet now all of a sudden it's his decision?

Nira asked the same question to her mother to which she didn't reply at all but what she did do was not make any eye contact to the teens upon hearing the question.

"Listen children, there is a lot of things that you do not know about the world yet. but... that time is coming near. So its time you get to know about the story as well"

She sighed heavily and paused looking at the same old book or perhaps a diary in her hands clenched tightly

"All your friends will also hear the same story from their parents"

"Mom i don't understand anything that's going on rights now ?! What are you trying to say?" Nira exclaimed as so did Calem

"you'll understand everything once you've heard this story from me dear. We don't have much time so we have to do this within a few days only" she paused momentarily, taking a deep breathe inside and exhaling. Again glancing at the book her eyes filled with a painful emotion as if she doesn't want to get reminded of the days back then. she then toughened herself up and opened the book to let the story finally pass on.

"This story you'll be hearing is written in your father's perspective. so listen carefully"

The teens looked at eachother with pure confusion and curiosity in their eyes and then glanced back at their mother to let her 'Start'

Date : 12th April 2031

Time : 6:32 a.m.

A red roofed house with yellow walls painted on the outside which seemed very normal. After all it was one of the houses that were very common in the Oatswood colony. Inside the house a middle-aged lady was working in the kitchen making something that seemed to be some sort of sandwiches. She had black hair, a marriage ring n her finger and she hummed happily with a medium deep voice of hers while preparing the food infront of her. she had brown eyes and one single wrinkle on her cheek which indicated that she was indeed in her 40's. She was wearing a green apron and a pink colored dress underneath it. there seemed no worries in her head.

*RING RING RING RING*

Except something.

"AEROOOOOOOO" instantaneously her sweet humming mood turned into an angry screaming one as the alarm of 6:35 a.m. rang loudly alongside her yelling voice.

Upstairs of the lovely house had 3 whole room, one of which had a seemingly lazy boy who forgot that he didn't put up his alarm for the starting of his new semester of his college. And who fell down the bed pretty bad, hurting himself due to being scared for his life after hearing his mother's scream.

Aero Mercer, a 17 year old boy with a bit long messy hair than short ones with green sparkling eyes, a sharp nose and jawline with smooth skin and a bit of long nails because he forgot to cut them. The boy had pretty average teenager height and a little bit of a deep voice and definitely a personality which was different than others in every single way.

Aero hurriedly scrambled up for his black framed spectacles which were kept on his bed right beside where he was asleep and while he was getting his glasses, his hand also grabbed his phone on the way back. The guy quickly got up, putting his glasses on and checking his phone for the time he had missed.

Aero's eyes widened with an serious smile on his face as if knowing that he's already about to be killed by his mother.

"Well that explains the good morning wake up call from 'the great birth giver' I better reach college in 5 minutes or I'm toasted by both the boys and my mom" Aero said it to himself while quickly trying to get out of his pajamas.

After a minute only the classy teenager was seen running down the stairs as fast as he could and zooming across the living room while a familiar voice stopped him

"AEROOO TAKE YOUR LUNCH WITH YOU, YOU IDIOT" and a yellow lunchbox with green lid on top was sent flying from the kitchen straight towards Aero's head. It seemed as if the flying lunch box really was the end of his life, after all who could catch a lunch box flying towards their head at such sound barrier tearing speed. But Aero was different.

*catch* "Thanks mom, BYE AND UH I LOVE YOU MOM" saying so he shut the front door of his house and ran for his life towards the college.

After which his mom smiled softly looking at her running child outside from the window.

"This boy will never change" after saying which she chuckled softly and went inside another room of the house.

*5 minutes later*

Aero was huffing loud and clear after getting into his college front gate a single second earlier than when it was about to close.

"Woke up late aswell today?" A hand suddenly stopped and rested on the huffing Aero's left shoulder and a guy with short red hair and a very strong gym-like physic of a guy appeared behind Aero. he had a yellow colored ear ring in his left ear and smiled brightly looking at him. his face was very friendly looking because that was the only way one could describe his face.

"Indeed buddy, I heard the death scream of my mom towards me" Aero said with a wide smile on his face and then adjusting his glasses looking towards Ed.

Edward Lee, a guy who liked really good challenges and was a type of guy that supported brawn over brains.

"Started chit-chatting without me eh boys?" Another one of Aero's friends, Jones or Jonathon Kennedy came walking towards both of them. Jones was one of the most popular kids in the whole college. he was even in the student council of the college. He had good looks, smooth and bright skin, had a dashing physique and was one of the guys who would top the finals every year.

Although Jones had everything that needed to be the high school main character type of a guy, he wanted to live a life exactly like how others lived. That's why Jones joined the 3 person friend group of Ed and Aero.

"Been a while since I met you Jones" both Ed and Aero said at the same time.

"Same here guys. to be honest the vacation was really boring without you guys"

"I missed you guys too." Aero said with a genuine smile on his face. these were the only few people that were really unconditionally friendly towards him and two of the only friends he had.

*DING DONG. DING DONG*

"There goes the bell. Better hurry up" Ed reported to the two of them before all of them started to walk towards the inner halls of the college talking with each others like the brothers from other mothers.

The day went by really fast and quick. It felt as if 3 hours went by in an hour. it was lunch break and the trio was sticking together, taking a walk together.

"You guys know? recently there was a viral video on the news. It seems vivid but I think this might be a thing" saying so Ed pulled out a video from his phone and showed it to the other two.

In the video, a man was vlogging with a head-cam and walking throughout the forest. suddenly he heard a weird scream from a distance. The vlogger rushed towards the noise only to see a horror so red that he was scared from his hair to toe.

A thing which seemed like an animal yet human... a creature with brown scaly patterns all over its body, arms reaching down to the ground. Standing over 7 feet tall, it had spines sticking out of his back and on the long spiny structure was a deer skin hanging onto it. the skin was... organ-less. It seemed as if there was nothing inside the skin, not even bones it was stuck in the creatures spine like structure. It's hind legs were not as long as it's front ones yet it seemed longer than the average human legs. It's skin was brownish-red, it was skinny yet it seemed bulky and powerful. Its head was bigger than the size of 4 human heads altogether and it's mouth's lining was razor sharp. It didn't have any teeth it seemed as if it chewed with the lining of his mouth.

But... what did he chew? The creature's eyes were whiter than any natural white color. It's face was rather long and wide rather than being greater with height. It's mouth could swallow a whole person if it was fully open. It's ears were tiny but still had sharp hearing.

It was eating something off of the ground or rather... eating someone. There lied a corpse right beneath his blood covered mouth. It wasn't resting, even for a second the corpse was already half eaten. The vlogger couldn't hold out any longer and started backing off holding his mouth fully covered so that he doesn't vomit. But eventually the creature heard it's footsteps. It's senses were so razor sharp that it could sense his walking right away.

Adrenaline rushed in and the vlogger ran as fast as it could. the creature right behind him. It's speed was comparable to that of a grizzly bear. Running for his life he couldn't even dare to look back at what monstrosity was chasing him. He ran and ran and ran, for so long that he himself didn't know for how long he ran. After what felt like running forever he finally couldn't hold on any longer and his legs gave up.

He glanced back behind him to see no one at all. After which he finally collapsed on the ground and huffed and panted so loudly as if the entire surrounding of his could hear his breath. He woke up again after a few minutes and talked to his viewers terrified of what he had just witnessed.

The video ended after a while which was a sensation on the internet.

"Some said this was fake while others said this was staged or AI" Ed was as terrified as the normal viewers of the mutuber in the comment section and so were the other two. But Jones wasn't really as much of terrified as the other two.

"Well the comments might be true you know? This can be staged. Looks very fake to me." He said.

But Aero noticed something. Something off about the video."Can you give me your phone for a second?" Reaching his hand out for Ed's phone while asking this.

Ed nodded in agreement and handed over his phone.

Aero took the phone carefully and started scrubbing the footage of the video. Soon enough, finding out what was wrong, he showed it to the two friends of his.

What Aero had found was that the video was made from a clip of a livestream on glitch. "And if this is a stream then...." Jones couldn't complete his sentence. The reason why the three friends were terrified was because the forest hat the glitch streamer was streaming in was Raincrookwoods. which had an opening of it right behind theircollege. Silence filled in between them.

The lunch break got over. All 3 of them couldn't say anything to eachother. It was art class next and the trio took their art study stationary and started walking towards the room. There was noise all among the students around them but silence in them. Normally students wouldn't think about such things and would just let them go naming it as a coincidence or something. But this time everything felt out of place.

Why were they worrying about only a mere video that is not even confirmed if it was true or not.

*THUD*

Suddenly Aero tripped over a fallen book in the hall

"owww" he let out.

Both Jones and Ed knelt down to see him. "You ok buddy?" Ed asked and Jones followed with the same question.

"Yeah but i think my arm is hurt" Aero told them.

Even after insisting alot. Aero was taken to the nurse by Ed and Jones.

"You have to be careful man, you're not as strong as this muscle head you know"

Jones told Aero signaling to Ed which lightened the mood a little followed by Ed"s grumpiness. It was true indeed. Aero was more of a nerd type of guy rather than the average College guy. But it was one of his true strengths as he could come up with any type of strategy to get out of any situation no matter what and his reflexes were faster than almost all of the students in the whole college although not being as strong as Ed was.

Soon enough laughing a little all of them arrived at the front door of the school clinic. The hallway was really empty and the front door of the clinic was closed shut. Ed went ahead to grab the handle of the door.

But he stopped.

As if he was turned into a statue. Jones came to his side to see what was wrong

"What happened dud-"

Before Jones could continue, Ed quickly shut his mouth with his hands. Then Jones saw his face. White paled out completely. His hands felt cold on his mouth. Ed's eyes slowly moved and met Jones'.

"Do not say anything" Ed said this so slowly that it was barely audible to Jones but he still knew what Ed tried to say. Ed look petrified of what he had realised. His sweat constantly rushing down his face.

Then they all heard it, coming from inside the office

*CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK*

The sound was of clicking very fast but it sounded unnatural. then the sounds of tearing of flesh and chomping filled their ears.

All 3 of them looked at eachother. Aero being the most sacred of them all. Ed slowly and carefully slid the door open a little. Small enough for all 3 of them to see at once.

And there was something that none of them even dared to think about inside the room. While Ed was slowly opening the door, scenes started to unfold infront of their eyes. Halfway through opening the trio saw the room covered in blood splattered across. The nurse's desk, the walls, the ceilings and the beds beside the desk. All of them had blood stains on them, still fresh.

Ed's hands trembled as he opened more and saw that the window of the nurse's office was broken into pieces, and there was a large hole in the wall following the window.

The forest was visible through the window.

As to all of their horror, when Ed finally opened the door, not fully yet enough to for all of them to see for their own eyes.

All 6 of their eyes were widened with horror as the saw the corpse of a patient half torn apart and the dead body of the nurse of the college clinic being eating with flesh ripping sounds

By the same creature.... They saw in the video...

Half of the creature's body was covered in human blood. It was sure that both the victims were completely not capable of fending it off.

"Wh-wh-wh-w- what's that" Aero's voice trembled in fear, his voice sounded so low as if a squeaking mouse.

Neither Ed or Jones had the answer to it. Their bodies were frozen in fear.

Who knew that they would witness such a Nightmare. This time, there was no dear skin hanging on it's spines. It's brownish red scaly skins were as though they absorbed all light that fell on it. It was eating without a break.

As if their situation couldn't get worse.

Jones' grip on the door he was holding slipped and he fell.

The sound of the human body falling would be enough for any animal to get alerted.

And so was the monstrousity. It stopped on it's way of eating. Slowly lifting it's head up. It turned back. With it's white glowing eyes that seemed to stare into its victim's wildest fears,

Looked. at. them.
