Chapter 1 - Enveloped

Dying doesn't feel good. I really don't recommend it. On the other hand, meeting a god-like being who's in a panic and trying to force you to reincarnate because his boss is about to ruin him is also not something I would recommend.

So, in a hurry, he bestowed on me, ha, right, more like dumped on me an ability. Once every Earth year, I gain a new ability. It could be world-destroying power or just the information on how to make a microchip. It's all based on luck.

And since the guy was in a rush and clearly didn't want me there, he didn't even bother to tell me which universe he dropped me into.

And I still haven't found out which universe I'm in. It's been two days in the desert, and I was in a situation I'd rather not get into. It's brutally hot at noon and freezing at night, and in the sky there are two suns burning down on everything.

I haven't eaten or had any water since coming here. The only reason I've survived this long in a desert like this comes down to one thing the ability I got when I arrived.

Actually, I got two abilities for the first use, I think. The first is the Extremis serum abilities, and the second is basic staff martial arts.

The first one is from the MCU Iron Man 3 movie. It basically gives me superhuman strength, speed, and regeneration. It also lets me manipulate heat inside my body to the point where it can melt steel, along with a strong resistance to fire.

The second one just means I know how to fight using a staff.

That's it, really. I won't get another ability until next year.

The first ability is the important one. I don't really feel the heat from the two suns, and I don't get cold at night. But there's another problem: I've aged down. I look like I'm about six or seven years old. And just to make sure I understand my situation, I'm a kid, alone, in a desert.

I don't get tired easily, even after walking for two days straight across the endless sand, but I really need to find a city nearby. Or at least a small village. Anything.

But nonetheless, I kept walking, covered by a thin cloak and body wrappings that hid me from the soles of my feet to my face, leaving only my eyes visible.

No shoes.

I walked for several days until I finally found a city. It looked fairly large, though nowhere near the size of a modern city on Earth. I kept moving toward it, and it still took several hours to actually reach the outer edge.

The first being I saw when I entered the city was a lizard-like creature with brown skin, almost the same color as the surrounding sand. He was riding a car-like device that floated above the ground. I had no idea how it worked. I couldn't see any kind of propulsion, but there were vents all over it, and what looked like filters, maybe to keep out the sand. The whole thing seemed old and worn.

Now fully interested, I started looking around the city. Most of the buildings weren't above ground. In fact, a lot of the structures were built into the earth itself, partially buried beneath the sand. The entire place felt sunken and sheltered. As I had guessed, the city wasn't very large, but it was definitely bigger than a village.
