Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Abyss, Nine Descents (8)

Null and Hunter stood face to face. The dust had become the air, and the floating island they stood on had shattered in multiple places, barely holding on. A dark aura ringed with yellow emanated from Hunter, while a slightly grey aura radiated from Null.

Null broke the silence, asking, "Why?"

Hunter merely smiled in response. Sensing a faint mockery in the air toward him, Null said no more, but his actions said otherwise. As Null's aura grew, making the dim environment even dimmer, he bent his leg forward and brought his body down.

From his Oni mask, white light like steam flew out of the edges of his eye area, dissipating in the wind. Each breath he took caused a change in the wind, causing the surrounding air to flow toward him and form a whirlpool.

His piercing white eye fixed on Hunter. Each hand firmly held a long, slender sword vertically. The swords still shone bright against the dim moonlight. Each breath Null took reduced the oxygen in the air, and each exhalation caused a faint purple mist to appear and spread in the surroundings.

Suddenly, Null disappeared and slashed his sword against Hunter's face. For a moment there was silence, as Null's white eyes seemed to want to swallow Hunter's eyes. In a flash, Hunter twisted the sword in his left hand with unbelievable agility, parrying Null's right sword with a deep clang. He withdrew his sword, taking a step back, and his blade leaned forward, clashing against Null's left sword.

In a swift motion, Null twirled the sword in his hand, now held vertically like a knife, its tip pointing at Hunter. As he moved his hand, the sword tore through the air with a screech, moving too fast to see as it pierced its way toward Hunter, piercing its way toward Hunter. Hunter, his eye flashing with a current, moved his sword, blocking the move, the tip of Null's sword pressing against the body of Hunter's sword.

In one swift motion, Hunter forcefully raised Null's right-hand sword upward into the air, his left hand grabbing Null's sword and slashing toward him. Clang. Steel met steel as Hunter grabbed Null's left-hand sword.

Hunter, his hand holding the blade of Null's sword firmly, dragged Null toward him. His right hand formed a fist, swinging through the air to meet Null's face. Cracks appeared in the spot Hunter delivered the punch, and a shockwave formed as Null was blasted away, tearing a hole through another island and into the depths of the ocean rolling furiously beneath the islands held by chains.

The sword in Hunter's hand shattered and turned to crow feathers, falling softly to the ground. For a moment there was silence. Until a sonic boom sounded in the distance, and the Lazy Corpse Emperor had arrived. His silver fist met the face of Hunter, who flew into the air and landed on the ground, stirring up a small cloud of dust on the island.

Lazy Corpse Emperor stood there with his arms folded, looking at Hunter. Hunter slowly stood up, clearing dust off his suit. Weirdly, a crack appeared on his face, like what he wore was not a face at all, but a mask.

Seeing the crack, Lazy Corpse Emperor's face struggled as if trying to remember something. His face warped, and he brought his hand to his head, trying to concentrate. When Hunter suddenly appeared in front of him, he seemed taller and more slender than usual, his hands longer than a normal human's, his black suit tinted with yellow. He appeared a head taller than Lazy C.E., leaning his head forward and bringing it close to the Emperor's face until they almost touched, holding a strange smile before he spoke with a laugh: "He, he, he, heh, he, he, ha."

Lazy Corpse Emperor's aura suddenly exploded in intensity, a silver-grey aura covering half the island. With incredible speed, he moved backward, almost tilting off the edge of the island.

Up in the void, SomePurifyingDude, Echo, and Dead Soul stood staring at the fight. Echo and Dead Soul's brows were furrowed as they looked at Hunter. SomePurifyingDude's eyes were deep and calm, but an intensity burrowed inside them as he looked at Hunter intently before saying'

"It's as if Hunter is wearing a skin over himself."

Dead Soul and Echo's attention was captured when they heard the word skin. It seemed as if something in their minds and cognition was warped and trying to break free, and they continued like this until

Then came the sound of quiet steps echoing in the void. As if a bubble had burst, a voice which seemed cold and yet not, echoed everywhere around the First Heaven: "Huh... So you fancy yourself as Hunter, all right."
