Chapter 80 - Pick a card

"I doubt that." she said flatly.

"Technically there are a lot of people with plans to take humanity out of this dark age. The difference is how well they actually planned it out. For the majority it's a goal they strive towards. Like the brotherhood who want to round up all the advanced technology and wipe out all the inhumans and monsters. That's it though. That's basically the entirety of most factions future prep. House is different, he has an actual step by step plan." I explained as we returned to the room with the monitor.

While we walked I idly noted the new pack opening token that I received for completing this part of the chain quest.

'I'll be popping that in a while.' I thought as we stepped into the room with the monitor where House was waiting.

"I see that you have succeeded in upgrading the securitrons. My network has already established control over them. I will leave them on standby here until the final battle for the dam. It won't do to reveal the trump card before the moment is right. Return to the Lucky thirty eight and we can discuss the next step." he said before the monitor went to a standby screen.

"You head out first to go tell Caesar you destroyed the stuff down here like he wanted and I'll meet you by Cottonwood cove in maybe two or three hours. Unlike you who gets to take a boat I have to cross the lake again before coming back with my bike." I said and Jess nodded.

I took out a stealth boy and activated it while shadowing her closely. As she stepped out the door of the shack leading to the legion camp I moved out with her so no one noticed anything before quietly slipping over the side of camps fence and then jumping off the cliff.-

I hit the water like a grenade going off but that didn't matter. I was already home free of the camp so even if they looked over the side to see what that was at most they'd only see the white disruption and waves made by my impact. I sank like a stone and once I hit the bottom dropped to a push up position and started hauling ass across the lake bed.-

I gave the area I killed the lake lurk a wide berth as I moved like something out of a horror movie at full speed towards the opposite side of the lake. Once I surfaced on the other side I pulled up my system and spent that pack token on a lord of the rings pack in hopes of getting some [amass orc] cards. I watched the pack rip open at the top and my fifteen cards lay themselves out before me.-

Mount Doom-land, Gloin, Dwarf emissary-creature, Bilbo, Birthday celebrant-creature, swamp-land, Phial of Galadriel-artifact, Eomer, Marshal of Rohan-creature, The Grey Havens-land, Grishnakh, Brash Instigator-creature, Slip on the ring-instant, Lash of the Balrog-sorcery, Nasty end-instant, Brandywine farmer-creature, Enraged Huorn-creature, Glorfindel, Dauntless rescuer-creature, Dunedain blade-artifact

"The one time I ACTUALLY want something and I only get one. At least I got a couple of decent cards anyways. That Bilbo is straight up broken if I can gather enough life with [life link]" I complained with a sigh.

"That sword artifact, is that two one permanent?" Adam asked with interest.

"Yep, unlike normal counters that are temporary the stuff gotten by equipping an artifact are permanent for as long as the artifact remains attached." I say as I break into a jog heading for Boulder city.

"Fascinating. What would happen if you attached it to yourself?" It asked curiously.

I almost tripped as the question caught me off guard. Technically I SHOULD possess stats since I was a creature and not the weird sort of cosmic entity that players were in the game. This meant I also SHOULD be able to equip myself with artifact cards to reap the benefits of them. Some of them I obviously wouldn't since even if the bonuses were awesome their lore makes that a VERY bad idea. For example if I were to somehow draw the one ring from the lord of the rings set.-

Technically not a card with a equip cost or any bonuses to putting it on game wise but there are plenty from a lore standpoint. Longevity and invisibility namely. I wasn't sure if the thing I would have would had the same downsides as the real thing however. That being how it twisted the mind of the one who owned it if they weren't Sauron. Which raised an entirely different question. Namely what would happen if I somehow got both Sauron and the one ring and put the ring on him?-

Lore wise this allowed him to use a lot more of his divine power in the mortal world which I assume in game terms would mean I effectively owned a god.

It was complicated to put it bluntly.

"I think I would gain the benefits from the artifact but i'm not one hundred percent sure without testing that." I eventually answered.

"Are artifacts like this common?" Adam asked curiously.

"Depends on the sets in question but sorta." I said as I jogged.

"Then it would be best to test this at your earliest opportunity so the data is understood in a safe manner rather than in the heat of the moment." Adam said seriously.

"Yeah, probably wise." I said before focusing on the task at hand.

I jogged past boulder city and after cresting the hill to find the highway took out my bike to mount up and head for Cottonwood Cove. Since Jess would be traveling downstream rather than paddling against the current she was definitely going to take far less time returning than going to the legions camp. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if she was stepping off the dock at Cottonwood cove right this moment as I revved my engine and gunned it down the road.
