Chapter 40 - Chap.39 - The power of the compass

Bonus Chapter [11] - EX - 1280 Power Stones.

The Interceptor continued to sail, while Rigel, on the other hand, kept an eye on the compass, his curiosity evident.

He was trying to control the direction of the pointer using occlumency.

He calmed and controlled himself to clear his mind at first, before slowly placing a thought over his "defenses".

'I want a fruit.' - Rigel watched the pointer slowly change direction and point to the left, looking away, he saw Jack, the monkey, eating a starfruit, his fur already all wet again.

Rigel was initially excited, then his eyes filled with anger. "Jack! I told you to stop getting dirty!"

Jack let out a cry, quickly dropping the starfruit and hiding behind Ragetti.

Ragetti's eyes widened and he tried to get rid of the monkey, but it soon turned into a fight.

Rigel rolled his eyes and ignored the idiots, shaking his head. He felt he didn't have the patience to teach Jack, so he ignored the monkey and went back to looking at the compass.

Knowing that he had achieved what he wanted, he did the same as last time, although his Occlumency wasn't the best and it took time to master, it was still a way to use it without limiting himself to his true, greatest desire.

'I want achievements.' Rigel thought, but he was surprised because the compass started spinning rapidly without pointing anywhere.

While he was confused, the adventure book opened up again in front of him.

[Writer, it's best to give up, the compass may indeed find what you most desire, but the Adventure Book is far beyond its power, so it cannot determine my achievements.]

Rigel blinked, frowning, this complicated things, he had hoped this compass would be much more useful.

He thought for a long moment, staring at the compass, when he came to a conclusion, perhaps he didn't need to go directly after achievements.

He just needs to identify something that will lead to achievements and go after it.

Rigel concentrated and tried again, thinking. "I want to find the closest supernatural thing to me that I haven't seen in person."

The last stretch was to prevent the compass from pointing towards the Black Pearl.

After a while, the compass stopped spinning, and the pointer settled on southeast.

Rigel smiled brightly. "Anamaria!" he shouted, standing up quickly.

Anamaria, at the helm, almost fell over with the shout, but quickly adjusted herself and asked. "Yes, captain?!"

Rigel rolled his eyes. Was that all this woman knew how to say? But now he didn't have time to mock her.

"Adjust course! Turn the ship around! We're heading southeast!" Rigel shouted.

Anamaria seemed confused, she said. "Captain, what about supplies? We need to stop to resupply, and Tortuga isn't far."

"Screw the supplies!" Rigel shouted, he had plenty of food and water in his bag. "Turn the damn boat around!"

Anamaria swallowed hard and shouted back. "Aye, Captain! You guys heard! Let's turn around!"

Rigel, on the other hand, was still looking at the compass, excited, he hoped it could help him. He didn't even need to focus on occlumency anymore to maintain this desire, instead, he truly wished to find this from the bottom of his heart.

Rigel stood at the bow, gazing straight out into the sea, as if he could foresee a new conquest.

[A/N: The next plot point is an Easter Egg, some Easter Eggs can be seen in future Adventure worlds. Just to be clear, Pirates of the Caribbean takes place in the early 18th century, while this film takes place in the late 19th century. Let it be clear that I adapted it.]

On the other side, hours later, as dawn was drawing to a close and sunrise approached, a Russian ship calmly sailed across the sea towards English waters, however, the crew on board were on edge.

In the captain's cabin, an elderly man was writing in a diary, his eyes slightly watery as he wrote, though his face still maintained a serious expression.

[... There are still 5 days until London, it seems God has given up on us.]

[We are drifting toward a terrible fate. May the Lord help us.]

On deck, a man with an extremely injured and bloodied face was tied to the mast.

He seemed possessed, out of his mind, half awake, half asleep, confused, but above all, hungry.

The ship's doctor, Clemens, stared in bewilderment at the bound man. "He's crazy, like he's possessed."

"Possessed by that beast." Wojchek said, his voice filled with irritation and frustration.

"No, no." Clemens said, still skeptical about the supernatural. "Not in that sense. It's something like poisoning or some kind of infection."

"Infection..." Wojchek said, as if mocking the idea. "It's unlike any I've ever seen."

"I can feel it..." The man tied to the bow finally spoke.

"Olgarem? Can you hear me?" The doctor, Clemens, asked quickly.

Olgaren ignored him, instead continuing to speak, almost to himself. "I can hear... the sea, the wind, the blood pulsing in your veins..."

Clemens, Wojchek, and Anna, who had been quiet until then, remained silent, confused above all about what the man was talking about.

Until he continued talking. "This burns."

"What?" Clemens asked, confused, turning to Wojchek and saying, "I think he needs water."

Wojchek turned around, ready to fetch water, but as he left, Olgaren stirred again.

"This burns." Olgaren repeated, beginning to breathe rapidly.

The sunlight began to slowly rise, falling upon the ship.

Olgaren grew increasingly angry, trembling and writhing. "It burns! It buurns! It buuuurns! It buuurns! It burns!"

His skin began to burn as the sunlight intensified, so it wasn't just an appearance, but he truly began to burst into flames like burning coals!

"Aaaaaaaah!" Olgaren screamed in pain as he burned.

Whether it was Clemens, Wojchek, or Anna, they all stared at it in complete shock.

Clemens tried to get closer to help, but the heat was so intense that he couldn't.

Wojchek, sweating and wide-eyed, raised his flintlock rifle and shot Olgaren in the head.

His eyes were red with pain, but he did not hesitate, in the end, only the corpse of the man in flames remained on deck, still tied to the mast.

[A/N: For those who didn't notice, this Easter Egg was based on Dracula - The Last Voyage of the Demeter.]
