Two days had passed since Evan's execution and the packhouse was still recovering.
So was Daisy. I had tried to check on her.
The first night I stood outside her door for nearly twenty minutes with my fist raised and ready to knock, telling myself it was only to make sure she hadn't done anything reckless after what she witnessed in the courtyard and that it was an Alpha's responsibility to know the condition of every member of his household and that it had absolutely nothing to do with the raw, unguarded pain I had seen in her golden eyes before she turned and fled while they dragged Evan's body away.
Twenty minutes I stood there and never knocked once.
I stood there in the darkness with my hands shoved into my pockets and listened to her sobs drift through the silence and cut straight through my chest without mercy.
She had shut everyone out, me and Reign and Ryker alike, and it drove me insane.
Was she eating? Was she sleeping? Was she still crying?
