Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Forgot to Take Out the Clothes from the Washing Machine

Anika didn't say another word. She grabbed Rahul's arm and led him out of the hotel lobby like a bodyguard escorting a celebrity.

As they passed the manager, who was still slumped on the floor looking like he'd seen a ghost, the man began piteously begging Rahul to call off the City Hall inspectors. Rahul didn't even give him a sidelong glance, striding out of the glass doors without breaking his pace.

Anika walked toward her BMW Mini, and a police officer—seeing her approach—quickly scrambled to move a squad car out of the way to let her out.

But Anika didn't go to the driver's side. Instead, she walked around the front of the car and personally opened the passenger door for Rahul. This thoughtful, high-status gesture immediately made every police officer on the curb look at Rahul with pure, unadulterated envy.

After Rahul got in, Anika finally hopped into the driver's seat and peeled away from the curb.

Once they were in the flow of traffic, Anika kept one hand on the steering wheel and used the other to firmly grip Rahul's hand. Her face was etched with genuine concern.

"Rahul, please don't be angry anymore. I promise I will make sure they regret ever disrespecting you."

"Just focus on the road, Anika," Rahul said, his anger already beginning to cool.

He was, however, deeply curious about the sisters' background. He hesitated for a moment before asking, "How exactly do you have the Mayor of Dhaka on speed dial?"

Anika didn't bother hiding it. "Because my father is the former Mayor. The current Mayor actually got the job through my father's direct recommendation."

"My father is... very traditional. My sister and I were way too rebellious for his taste, so we haven't really spoken to our family in a long time. But today, for your sake, I was more than willing to swallow my pride and call in a favor."

At this point, Anika turned her head and gave Rahul a look so gentle it was almost melting, before turning back to focus on the Dhaka traffic.

Rahul felt a genuine jolt of shock.

No wonder the twins carried themselves with such effortless authority. Their father was the former Mayor. The fact that she had broken a long-standing family silence just to help him out touched Rahul more than he wanted to admit.

Ten minutes later, the Mini turned into a heavily guarded, ultra-luxurious apartment complex and drove directly into the underground parking.

"Rahul, we're home."

Anika pushed open her door and popped the trunk.

Rahul stepped out and saw Anisha already waiting by the elevator bank, walking quickly toward them.

"Anisha? Why aren't you at the shop?"

Anika, grabbing Rahul's backpack from the trunk, immediately understood her sister's presence: she had been too worried to stay at work.

Anisha didn't even look at Anika. she walked straight up to Rahul, her face a mask of worry.

"Rahul, are you okay? I heard you were attacked! Let me see... are you hurt?"

She stepped in close, her hands instinctively hovering over his shoulders and arms, checking for any visible injuries.

"I'm fine, really," Rahul said with a sheepish grin. "I was just tackled by the receptionist. The physical damage was zero, but the humiliation factor was a solid ten out of ten."

Rahul didn't want to elaborate on the details of the 'female Zhang Fei' incident; it was honestly too embarrassing to explain to two beautiful women.

Anisha let out a long breath of relief and finally looked at her twin.

"It's good you're okay. I actually just spoke to the Mayor too; he said the building inspectors are already on-site."

"Yes, that dump is about to be shut down. Rahul is moving in with us for now." Anika winked at her sister, her eyes full of mischief.

"I'll be troubling you two for the next few days," Rahul said politely.

When Anisha saw her sister's knowing look, her face instantly turned a soft pink. This was the first time a man had ever entered their private sanctuary, let alone come to live with them.

However, beneath the shyness, a subtle spark of anticipation flared in her chest.

"It's no trouble at all! Welcome to our home!"

"Alright, enough standing around in the garage! Let's go up!" Anika urged.

Rahul grabbed his backpack and followed the twins into the elevator, heading straight for the 17th-floor penthouse.

As soon as the doors opened into the apartment, Rahul was hit by a refreshing, elegant fragrance. It was the distinct, sophisticated scent of a high-end bachelorette pad.

The apartment was stunning—easily one of the most luxurious properties in central Dhaka. The interior was ultra-modern, featuring a massive open-plan living room with solid wood floors and thick, plush wool rugs. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of half the city.

Near the windows, he spotted a yoga mat, a gym ball, and a treadmill.

Rahul subconsciously glanced at the twins. No wonder they have such incredible figures; they clearly put in the work at home.

"Rahul, you can take the guest suite. It's right next to Anisha's room," Anika said, shooting him a playful look. "That way, if you need anything in the middle of the night, my sister is right there to take care of you."

Anisha rolled her eyes at her sister. What could he possibly need? She still hadn't confronted Anika about her 'secret late-night excursion' from the night before.

"Yes, stay next to me," Anisha added softly. "If you need anything at all, just call out."

"Sounds perfect. I'm not picky."

Rahul followed them into the room. Looking at the crisp, king-sized bed and the sleek furniture, he nodded in satisfaction.

"Satisfied, traveler?"

"Absolutely. It's about a thousand times better than my last place. Spacious and cozy."

"Anisha, let's not open the boutique today. Let's just stay in, take a day off, and cook something amazing to help Rahul relax. What do you think?" Anika suggested.

"I already closed the shop. I'm not going anywhere..." Anisha's voice trailed off as she stole a glance at Rahul.

Rahul noticed Anisha's shy demeanor and thought: These two really are opposites. One is fire, the other is water.

"In that case, Anisha, you stay here and keep Rahul company. I'll run down to the premium supermarket to stock up on food and drinks," Anika said, clearly creating an opportunity for her sister to have some alone time with him.

"Rahul, any food allergies? Anything special you want to eat?"

Rahul waved his hand. "I eat everything. Just get whatever you two like."

"Okay, I'll be back soon!" Anika raised her eyebrows at Anisha and turned to leave.

The click-clack of her heels faded, followed by the heavy thud of the front door closing.

Silence descended on the room. Only Rahul and Anisha remained.

Compared to the boisterous Anika, Anisha was now standing with her head slightly bowed, not quite daring to lock eyes with him. The atmosphere turned thick and subtle.

Rahul decided to break the tension. He unzipped his backpack, pulled out the bundle of dirty clothes he'd hurriedly packed, and looked at Anisha.

"Anisha, where's the laundry room? I need to get these washed."

Anisha snapped out of her daze. "Oh! Let me handle that. I'll wash them for you."

"No need, I can do it. Just show me where the machine is."

"Okay, follow me."

Anisha pointed toward the laundry room tucked behind the guest bathroom. Rahul walked in, opened the lid of the sleek front-loading washing machine, and prepared to toss his t-shirts in.

But his hand froze mid-air.

Inside the drum, there were already several pieces of delicate lingerie—some black lace, some soft pink, all in very intricate, revealing styles.

"Anisha? I think you forgot to take a few things out of here..."

When Anisha heard that, her face went from pink to a violent crimson in a split second. She let out a tiny, horrified shriek and rushed into the laundry room.

"Oh my god! My underwear!"
