SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

C252: One attack

Chapter 252: One attack

Aren looked confused and shocked when he heard the offer. He looked at the patriarch, and then he saw it in his eyes. The patriarch simply wanted to show Aren that he wasn't anything, he wanted to shatter Aren's pride completely.

Athena tugged on Aren, "Don't do it," she said. She could easily tell that the patriarch was extremely strong, and she knew that Aren would try to take it for her.

Aren looked at her with a calm look in his eyes and then placed his hand on her head, petting her slowly. "Athena, I'll never leave you here." He said with a confident smile.

She tried to say something, but she saw his face, radiating with confidence, anything that she said now would be pointless.

"Please be alive," she said, before letting go of Aren and stepping away. June and Peter also rushed to move away, not wanting to be a part of whatever was about to happen here.

Aren looked at the patriarch. "I have one request to make though."

"Oh? What could that be?" the patriarch asked.

"I'm allowed to use whatever means I have, items and tools as well, whatever it is, and you are not allowed to change your mind after this, you must allow me and Athena, along with Peter, to leave," Aren said.

The patriarch looked at Aren with skepticism. He could feel that Aren had something planned, but he couldn't wrap his head around what that thing could possibly be. His mind raced in circles, but he seriously couldn't see a way that Aren could tank the hit.

Then finally, something came to mind, so he said it. "You are not allowed to use pocket dimensions, that's if you have one. Even then, my attack will most definitely shatter whatever pocket dimension you have, so it's still pointless," the patriarch expressed.

"I understand, I'll not be using any of that," Aren said, still sounding calm.

The patriarch found his calm act unnerving, he wanted to figure out why Aren was calm as water now.

"Hmm, are you trying to act calm to throw me off?" the patriarch asked.

"Haha," Aren let out a nervous chuckle, "who knows. I guess it's best to be calm when you are about to face the attack of someone that stands at the peak of humanity," Aren said.

"Hmm, I see, then we'll get on with it," he said.

"So I'm taking it here?" Aren asked.

"Hahahaha, I'm not in the mood to completely destroy my town," the patriarch said, and then suddenly snapped his finger and right before Aren's eyes, the platform seemed to stretch and twist in space, growing farther and farther away rapidly.

The platform suddenly became a thousand times its original size, reaching the size of the town and more. The town was still around them, only now very far away.

Athena, June, and Mira were also extremely far away, Aren could barely see them, they were far away from what his shadow sense could even pick up.

'He manipulated space so easily, and this massive of a change to add, this is crazy, crazy,' Aren thought, looking at the patriarch, he was finally understanding why this man was the patriarch of a Royal Family.

"This should be enough," the patriarch said. He took a few steps back. "I'll not use a sword though, that would be overkill," the patriarch said.

"Thought you were using your full strength," Aren said, he found himself slightly pissed off at the fact that he wasn't using his full strength.

"Haha, you are one crazy kid," the patriarch said. He turned around and faced Aren. "An attack with my personal sword is considered illegal, amongst the Royal Families, the patriarchs are not allowed to truly go all out unless they are faced with a world-threatening threat," the patriarch said.

"Hmmm, isn't that an issue? If you can't go all out, how can you train and get stronger?" Aren asked.

"Hmmm, pretty observant. But that's part of it, a regulation of our own strength, to ensure that none of us single-handedly becomes the new war God," the patriarch said.

"Huh? Why wouldn't you all want someone that stands for humanity like the war God?" Aren asked in confusion.

"The war God caused more harm than good, the issue is you never hear about that, because it's covered deeply. Haha, well I guess you know now," the patriarch said.

"I see, there is more depth to everything, I guess," Aren said, then he looked up. "I'm ready to take your attack, but remember, you can't forget our deal."

"Hmm, alright," the patriarch said and then started backing up. As he did, his aura rose like a wave, surging with power, twisting and turning. The ground trembled, the air shook.

"In this world, there is power and then there is power beyond power, one that overtakes every power that you know, a power that stands above all, to all humans I am one of those powers," the patriarch said and then turned around, he looked at Aren.

"Get ready," his tone changed into one that was far more heavy.

Aren nodded and immediately summoned his dark armour, he activated its special state, and then his shadow armor, before activating his shadow form, then he summoned his dagger and the hammer.

He didn't stop there, Aren used all his soul energy, summoning to summon his strongest shadows, Riker, Fang, Raze, the Hydra, and finally, the giant.

Only from these summonings, his soul energy was nearly depleted. Kai had one more trick up his sleeve, but he couldn't use that now.

The patriarch saw all of this and was surprised, Aren indeed was a talent and if left to grow, could rise to the top.

The patriarch lifted his hand into the air and suddenly space started twisting, shaking and tearing, everything was suppressed by the power, it shook even the sky above, turned it dark as night and ripped through the platform.

"It's time," he said calmly, swinging his hand down.

SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

C253: Using Casper

Chapter 253: Using Casper

'Why do I do this?' Standing there, watching that hand slowly swing down, Aren asked himself a question, one that he had never thought of asking before.

'Everything I do, is there really a reason for it?' He wondered, he clenched the dagger and hammer in his hands, looking at the attack prepared by the patriarch.

"Yes there is," Aren said with conviction, he felt the ground shaking beneath him, he felt everything trembling like it would fall apart at any given moment.

"My reason for everything is because I want to ensure, no one tells me what the hell I'm meant to do."

That exact moment, the hand came down, slashing extremely fast and powerful. Space distorted instantly, it twisted like it wanted to turn inside out.

A massive invisible arc ripped through the air, it wasn't a normal arc, it carried laws and understanding that were foreign to Aren, it was as though it was shaping reality.

"What the heck is that slash even meant to be." Aren said as he watched the attack get closer, his entire body was trembling, and everything that was inside him screamed at him to run and run very fast, but he kept himself rooted, kept his face high, he clenched his jaw and got ready to tank it.

The patriarch watched in surprise, "he isn't going to give up or run? Is he really going to take the attack? Even I would not take an attack from myself.

This kid, what could possibly be going on in his head, what pushes him to want to defy me so much? All for someone that isn't really his family?

It's like he doesn't even think about what could happen to him before he acts. He rushed into my town and now is taking my attack. Haha, what a marvelous fellow, I see why Geisha is so interested in him."

Aren on the other side of things was bracing for impact. He waited until the attack had crossed the middle distance and then he made a move.

This attack was heavily contained to ensure that it didn't destroy everything, and even then it was ripping through the platform and twisting space and everything that was around it. It showed the level of skill and power that the patriarch had, he was in his own way giving Aren a way out.

If Aren moved out of the way fast enough, the attack wouldn't do anything to him.

Sadly Aren wasn't even backing down, never.

"I'll attack it with everything I have, and I'll make sure that I survive this, no matter what." Aren roared and then charged at the attack along with every shadow, all moving at the same time toward their probable demise.

"He is running toward it?" the patriarch said in shock, he watched as Aren collided with the attack, and what followed was an explosion that shook the sky

BOOM

The force of the explosion was extremely massive, the entire platform was blown into bits, the air rushed like it was a hurricane, the sky twisted around it.

There was no one that would think Aren would survive that.

June, Athena and Peter all watched in shock, worried about what happened to Aren, fear that he might have died gripped their hearts, they all looked in the direction of the explosion, even June couldn't help but be worried about the brash kid.

The smoke and dust slowly cleared from the now destroyed platform, and at the center Aren could be seen on his knees and standing beside him was a never seen before Shadow, one of the first humans Aren had ever turned into a Shadow, it was none other than Casper.

Aren coughed up a huge amount of blood on the ground, his entire body filled with weakness, he unsummoned Casper while fighting to not collapse.

Despite the fact that he had used everything that he could, that attack swallowed it all, destroyed every Shadow and everything that he had to throw at it in the moment.

At the end, he was forced to expend a huge amount of soul energy for one last summon, Casper. Casper's lock was onto the Patriarch as the enemy, and then gained enough power to resist the attack.

Even then, it had almost completely shattered Aren, the force of the blast, the use of soul energy, he was at the very end.

The patriarch looked at Aren, but the initial shine in his eyes was no longer there, it was only a dead stare. In that moment, the patriarch finally realized why Aren had made sure to tell him not to react no matter what happened.

The patriarch sensed Casper when he was summoned, and then he saw the Shadow. He knew in that moment that Aren had done something to Casper.

"What did you do to Casper?" The patriarch asked, trying to be calm.

Aren looked at him and spoke, "sadly, no response I can give will be soothing to you, I needed to enter, so I did what must be done, I killed him."

The patriarch's eyes twitched when he heard that, "you killed Casper?" He asked to be sure.

Aren slowly rose to his feet, he looked directly at the patriarch and in a calm tone, "yes I did."

"And then you turned him into a summon for your use." The patriarch said, his face twisted in anger.

"How dare you?" He growled, the ground began trembling from the sheer pressure that he exuded.

"I'm sorry it came to that." Aren replied honestly. "If there had been another way to enter, I would have taken it over killing him." Aren said.

"You can justify killing him, but what is your justification for turning him into an undead summon?" The patriarch asked in anger.

Aren looked right at him and responded, "nothing, I simply did." He said, and instantly the pressure of the patriarch surged rapidly, rushing like a wave.

"I'll make sure that I twist your head off that little body of yours and use it as a keychain."

SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

• Chapter 254: Third Trial

SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

C254: Third Trial

Chapter 254: Third Trial

Aren felt the bloodlust coming from the Patriarch, but rather than be worried, he looked at the Patriarch with a calm gaze.

"Remember what we agreed on," Aren calmly said.

"Hmmm? Do you really think I'll not kill you because of a promise?" he asked, taking one step forward, a massive shockwave blasted outward, slamming into Aren.

BOOM

Aren felt as though he was run through by a train, he coughed up blood and collapsed to his knee.

"Urghhhh." He groaned in pain and slowly looked up, he saw the outline of the Patriarch standing there, and his glowing red eyes locked on Aren like a demon from hell.

Cough cough, "I'm sure you'll honor your word," Aren muttered, pushing himself up, he staggered, struggling to keep himself standing.

The Patriarch looked at Aren for a good number of seconds and then heaved a heavy sigh. "You played this one well, kid, but you have now become my enemy, and after you leave here, killing you becomes fair game." The Patriarch said, almost sounding childish, but Aren knew that he was extremely serious.

"That's fine," Aren replied, "after here, you can come for me and avenge Casper if you want." Aren said. He decided that he wouldn't run anymore, and whatever he had to face, he would.

"Good, now leave, but know I'll be coming for your daughter soon." The Patriarch replied. Instantly, the space that had stretched began compressing back into itself extremely fast until it returned to normal.

But even then, the platform had been completely destroyed. Aren looked at the floor, then back at the Patriarch, "you are really powerful, I have to say, even Geisha didn't make me shiver this much." Aren said.

"The geisha you met was merely a shadow of himself, he is a being that's stronger than me, not by a little as well. As much as I do not want to say that." The Patriarch said, he walked up to Aren and then walked past him. "Leave before I change my mind." He said and kept walking, he glanced at Athena and gave a smile before walking off.

June immediately followed behind the Patriarch. Peter looked at her, his eyes filled with longing, he wanted to call her, and maybe have one last talk with her, but he knew that none of that was going to happen, June was true to the family, and it was going to remain that way.

He turned around and walked toward Aren, leaving her behind, he didn't even look back at her for even one moment, he knew that his heart would break if he did.

"Aren," Athena called out the moment that the Patriarch walked away, she rushed, leaping into Aren's hands, Aren wrapped his hands around her as she buried her head into his shoulder.

"I was so scared." She muttered.

"I understand, you should have known I would surely come to save you no matter what." Aren said, he looked at the collar on her neck and grabbed it, normally it wouldn't come off, but now that she had been permitted to leave, Aren only had to tug on it and it immediately came off, he tossed it aside.

After letting go of Athena, Aren looked at Peter, "so what will you do now?" Aren asked.

"I'll leave, I have a few things I can use to survive outside. I'm sure that you can't stay with me because of the trials, so I have to find my footing myself." Peter said.

"I see, that's good, and I'm sure that one day we'll see each other again."

"I hope for that too." Peter said.

Aren nodded and grabbed onto Athena, they headed out of the town fast, he didn't want any unexpected things anymore. Peter, on the other hand, decided to head back to his home and grab a few final things before he left.

When Aren made it to the gates, he looked at the guards that had now returned back to their position and then walked through.

The moment he and Athena passed through the gate, their system screens immediately turned on.

[Their trial will begin in sixty seconds]

Aren was stunned to see this, and seeing the look on Athena's face, he could tell that she was stunned as well.

"What about the others?" She asked, worried that if the trial started now, they would not meet with the others.

"I don't know what will happen, but we'll just have to stick together and ensure that we get through it, I have a feeling that the next trial is about to be the worst."

Slowly the time trickled down and the sixty seconds were gone, and immediately, Aren and Athena felt as if their surroundings were getting twisted. To ensure that they didn't get split up, Aren grabbed Athena, ensuring that he held her close.

The surroundings lost all light in an instant, and the moment it returned, they were both standing inside a different place.

The air became heavy, and a dark presence looked over them.

Aren looked ahead and saw others appearing inside the space as well. The space went on for as far as his eyes could see, in the distance he could see a dark fog that was suppressing all sight beyond that.

Aren used shadow sense in an attempt to see if the others were close, but he didn't see them.

"Tch, they might not be here at all." He muttered.

Suddenly a very familiar pressure came, he looked up and saw her, Elton.

She flew above with a cold glare in her eyes, like her hatred for humans had grown even more.

"Welcome all of you, to the third trial, your greatest challenge and the very day that some of you will gain a Patron god. Many of you have already gotten it, and some have not, those that have, already have an edge over the rest.

As for the rest that do not, do your best in the trials and try to gain the favor of the gods, it will be for your own good."

[End of the Arc, see you in the next]

SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

C255: Werewolves

Chapter 255: Werewolves

Aren looked at Elton as she flew above him, she was speaking words but his mind wasn't there with her at all, as many other things were rushing into his mind.

'I'm not going to allow this to keep going, I'll find the reason why they are after me, is it because I'm just an anomaly, do they know something I don't? Do they know who I was before this?' All the questions swirled inside Aren's mind.

'If no one can answer my questions for me, then I'll dig out the answers myself, I'll make sure I get it, I'll consume non-stop until I can find the answers for myself.'

Aren decided for himself, he had been moving at their pace all this time, but now he wanted to step ahead and take the bull by the horns.

As if she knew what Aren was thinking, Elton looked at him, the air tensed between them. Aren could swear that her eyes twitched while she looked at him.

After sending her avatar and being unable to do anything against Aren, she had really come to hate Aren and everything that he had put her through.

The feeling was likewise, her stunt with Raze had damaged him a lot. He hated her for nearly causing the death of Aiden.

Elton looked away from Aren and then began the explanation of the next trial. "In this trial, you are being watched by gods. They can choose to gift you, reward you, or pick you whenever, so you must do your absolute best to survive.

This trial is called Angel's Fall, you must escape this space, find a door to escape, and that way you'll enter the main stage of the trial.

The fog hides the doors, but it hides more than that as well, monsters birthed in the fog. You might think you have faced a lot of monsters to date, but what you have faced is nothing, and what you'll face now is vastly different.

Do not be caught off guard, keep your head high, and fight for the right to be chosen by the gods." Elton said and then made to vanish, but Aren called out to her.

"Hello, Elton." His voice cut through the air, everyone that heard it was stunned, an awakened called an angel, that was never heard of before.

Elton looked at Aren, her eyes showed that she was shocked, never in her life did she think she would be called by a human in that way.

She didn't respond, but she looked directly at him, she knew that Loki favoured this one, so she wasn't going to touch Aren for now, and that pissed her off to no end.

"Is this really a necessary part in Angel's Fall, or is it something that's added to weed you down even more?" Aren asked.

She looked at Aren, shocked that he would dare to even ask such a question.

[You have received a reward from a god of light, Illuminas, one divine talisman. He finds your question amusing.]

A message suddenly came to Aren's screen, it stunned him, seeing that he could gain rewards from the gods.

Elton seemed to also notice that Aren got a reward, her frown deepened.

"There is no questioning the Hundred Trials," Elton said, she looked at Aren with cold eyes, "every part of what is said is part of the trial." After saying that, she looked around, and then announced, "due to the question of the trials, the entire trial will be increased in difficulty by one level."

When everyone heard that, their hearts dropped into their stomachs. Everyone around looked toward Aren, rage filling them, but Aren ignored every look, no one here was even an enemy for him, they didn't register.

Elton smiled after seeing that she gave Aren enough enemies, then she turned and vanished from there, signalling the start of the trial.

A few people wanted to immediately rush at Aren and give him a piece of their mind, but the fog quickly spread and covered everything, everyone was now covered inside the black fog, where visibility was only a few feet around themselves.

Aren immediately grabbed Athena and then turned on Shadow Sense to ensure that he could see everything around.

"Athena, make sure you stay close, we'll find a door." He said.

"I understand." She replied.

Not long after the fog spread, something entered Aren's senses, and it wasn't human, it had a humanoid form, hunched over, covered in fur and carrying extremely long fangs.

"This monster?" Aren muttered, watching as it got closer, "it's a werewolf." Aren said, and right in that moment, the werewolf burst out of the fog, decent height, extremely long fangs and claws, as it tried to bite into Aren.

"Fang," Aren called out, and instantly Fang appeared, lunging at the werewolf, it bit into the neck of the werewolf, throwing it down before biting right into the head, killing it instantly.

Aren looked at the werewolf, it wasn't all that strong, it couldn't stand against Fang, but it was still pretty useful, and he wanted to know what memories it had.

"Consume," he called in a cold tone, the body immediately vanished and became one of his summons.

"Fang, make sure none of those things come close to Athena," Aren said.

Fang immediately moved beside Athena to keep her safe. Aren began scanning around with Shadow Sense to try and find the door.

'I didn't even think things like werewolves would exist, but wait, if they do, does that mean they are humans? Did the angels turn humans into werewolves for the trials?' Aren began thinking as he scanned around, having a lot of questions about the source of the werewolves.

But those questions would all have to wait because after killing the first werewolf, the number of them in the fog greatly rose, and so did their strength. Aren could sense a ton of them around him, he knew that the real thing was about to start.

C256: Stronger Monsters

Chapter 256: Stronger Monsters

RAWRRRRRRRRRRRR!

A werewolf roared as it rushed at Aren, its red eyes glowed through the fog, locking on Aren.

"Tch, annoying." Aren said. He lunged forward, dodging the attack of the wolf before grabbing it by the neck and immediately drove its head down into the ground hard, his eyes looked up, locking onto another that was already rushing at him.

"Tch, they just keep coming." Aren complained before summoning a shadow wolf that appeared and immediately lunged at the wolf, ripping into it very fast, with loud growls and ferociousness.

"Where the hell is this door" Aren complained as he rose to his feet, he looked ahead, another werewolf was incoming, he unleashed a claw strike that cut the head clean off. He charged in that direction as more were coming, his movements fast and precise, evading every wolf while countering with speed.

He drove his fist into the head of one, shattering the skull of the werewolf.

Unknown to Aren, his soul fragments were steadily rising as he fought.

[Level up, 4 stat points]

Aren was stunned when he saw that, eyes widening in shock, it had been a while since he got the level up message.

"Well that's a shocker." He muttered and then pushed on.

Time went by and after one hour, Aren was unable to find any door.

He stopped, feeling like something was wrong. He looked at Athena, "If anyone should have been able to find the gate here, it should have been me." Aren stated.

"I don't think it's as simple as she said." Athena expressed. "I feel something is very wrong with this place." Athena added, looking around.

When she said that, Aren paused.

'Exactly, when has the trials ever been as simple as they said?' Aren thought to himself, he looked ahead in one direction.

"Athena, come with me." Aren said, she looked a bit confused, but she followed, Aren ran in a straight line while she and Fang followed behind.

He realized something, because they had been told to find the door in the fog, and the entire place looked like it had no end, everyone simply assumed they were inside a void rather than trying to find the end.

If this place had an end like a room, then the door would probably be on the wall.

As Aren rushed ahead, he summoned more wolves, creating a formation around them, attacking any werewolf that dared attack, ensuring that not one came close.

They kept moving fast, when suddenly, a werewolf that was far larger than the rest burst out of the shadows, extremely fast and powerful, Aren couldn't even react in time before the claws slashed into his armor, it didn't penetrate but he was instantly thrown back.

"Aren!" Athena screamed his name, she looked at the werewolf and instantly anger filled her, "Die!" she yelled, her eyes glowed even more, the chaos ripped through the air and slammed into the werewolf.

BAM

The force ripped into the chest of the werewolf, throwing it back as blood gushed from the chest.

It slammed into the fog, hitting the ground hard and skidding away, but it wasn't done yet. From the fog it burst forward, attacking Athena, but Riker rushed out of the fog, using his horns, he slammed into the werewolf extremely hard and tossed it to the side.

The werewolf skidded across the floor, then it used its claws, digging deep into the ground to stop itself. It breathed heavy and locked eyes on Riker now.

Riker pointed his sword at the werewolf, "I have failed master multiple times at this point, I'll not do that again." He said, shooting forward, he pulled his hand back for a powerful swing.

The wolf knew better than to just take that, so it rose to its feet fast, then used its claws together to block the attack.

CLANG!

The collision sent sparks flying, Riker and the werewolf were both knocked back, but Riker didn't relent, he shot forward again, his body bursting with strength.

"Arghhhhhhhhh" He roared as he slashed with everything that he had. The werewolf blocked this, but was thrown back further.

Riker gave immediate chase, "You'll not get away" he roared, slashing down.

The werewolf, seeing Riker, immediately clawed into the ground, stopped itself and then looked up, releasing a powerful howl that shook the entire surroundings, the force of the howl slammed into Riker, throwing him back.

Riker slammed into the ground, rolled and immediately got up, firing forward again like a bullet, he and the werewolf entered into the fog, where sparks of their collision were all that was seen.

Aren walked out of the fog and met Athena, she looked worried, but the moment that she saw him, she calmed down.

"You are alright." She said.

"Of course, you should know it takes more than that to take me down. Let's keep moving ahead, we must be onto something, and that's why the stronger monsters are coming." Aren said.

He looked ahead, and dashed while she followed behind. As they moved, another one of the powerful werewolves leaped over all the wolves to attack Aren, Aren didn't even look at it.

"Fang" Aren called.

"Rawwwwr" Fang growled as he leaped over everyone, biting right into the werewolf and slamming it into the ground.

The both of them hit the ground hard and were pushed aside, the werewolf rose to its feet and immediately pounced on Fang, but Fang immediately unleashed a terrifying thunder and flame breath that slammed into the werewolf, throwing it back through the air.

The werewolf slammed hard into the ground, rolled but didn't attack again, it let out a roar as it rose to its feet, and a certain red energy swelled and enveloped it, increasing all its stats instantly as well as bloodlust, but Fang was unfazed, he charged ahead.

Unleashing a barrage of lightning, the massive bolts traveled toward the werewolf. The werewolf, rather than dodging, decided to tank the attack, the lightning slammed into its body hard.

SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows

C257: Not Right

Chapter 257: Not Right

The werewolf was pushed back by the force of the attack, its entire chest was blasted open, it bled badly, but its eyes held the same bloodlust, and an unrelenting will to destroy.

It rushed ahead like a bullet, the ground cracking beneath its feet as it lunged at Fang. Fang stood and launched another lightning attack, the werewolf saw this one coming and immediately changed course, dodging very fast.

The lightning was hurled past, while the werewolf skidded across the ground, using its claws to stop itself and keep attacking. Its claws lunged for Fang, Fang immediately leaned back and evaded the attack, before pouncing again, the two immediately became locked in battle.

Aren looked at Fang in battle, "tch, I need more summons like Fang." He muttered, and then realized that he had been neglecting a very important skill, merge.

"I've not used that in a long time, I could have made a ton of better summons by now." Aren complained while summoning two shadow wolves, he looked at them and without hesitation the wolves merged right before him.

Their form shifted, turning into a two meter tall wolf, its glowing red eyes locked on Aren. It bowed its head to Aren completely.

[New Shadow formed, Merged Grey Wolves, new form, Evolved Grey Wolves]

[Do you wish to name this Shadow? ]

Aren looked at the wolves, "hmmm, you are my second wolf merge, I'll call you Beta," Aren said.

"I'll have to wait a day or two before I can make the next merge." He scratched the back of his head in slight frustration, if he had focused on creating stronger Shadows all this time, he would have a proper army now.

"Tch," he clicked his tongue, angry at his own forgetfulness, he got satisfied with his pace and forgot that he had to keep growing.

Aren turned to look at Athena, "let's keep moving."

She nodded, following behind as they dived deeper into the fog. Beta became the new wolf guarding Athena since Fang was locked in battle.

As they walked, Aren realized that the fog was getting thicker, so much so that it was restricting their movements and also distorting his shadow sense, it was so dense that his shadow sense couldn't pick up shadows easily.

"hmmm, this is bad." He muttered, grabbing his chin as he stood there. "If I don't have visibility, things become far more difficult," he said, "but then again, if things are changing, then that means we are making progress, the issue is, is it good or bad progress."

[You have received a divine talisman from a goddess of darkness, Umbra, ]

[The goddess Umbra finds your thoughts interesting]

Aren looked at the rewards, he frowned, he had gotten one a few moments ago, and now another. It wasn't that the rewards were bad things, but there was something else bothering him.

He turned around and looked at Athena, "Athena, have you received anything from the gods?"

She paused for a moment, then she nodded, "the god of chaos gifted me when I used my ability a few moments ago." She explained.

"Hmm, I see, so it's truly just an interest thing, they watch and they gift, and when they want they offer to me, patron gods," Aren wondered out loud, he grabbed his chin again, then looked up slightly.

"Our pain is your entertainment, I see." He muttered calmly, his eyes slowly shifted from normal into one of suppressed anger. "Our lives are meaningless to all of you." He said, a smile formed on his lips, he looked down at Athena, "let's keep moving."

'If you all want a freaking show, then watch closely, I'm going to make sure this is a trial that none of you forget, one way or the other,' he clenched his fist and turned to leave.

He had barely taken a step when instantly something came from the fog, a werewolf larger than anyone they had seen so far. It was right beside Aren, eyes bloody red, claws extended, it was a few inches away from Aren, there was no human way that Aren could dodge.

Athena's eyes widened in fear, she tried to attack, but no matter what she did now, it would be far too slow, the monster was already too close.

Aren's head turned slowly as he looked at the werewolf, but there wasn't even an ounce of fear on his face.

The claws of the monster phased right through his body, and so did the entire monster. Aren activated Shadow form at just the right moment and completely evaded the attack.

He didn't stop there, he lunged at the werewolf, grabbing it by the leg, he pulled it back with his left hand while attacking with the claws of his right hand, Aren's claws dug deep into the side of the werewolf, drawing a huge amount of blood in an instant.

The werewolf roared in pain, it twisted its body in an attempt to get away, but Aren didn't allow it.

"I'm tired of vermin like you constantly attacking me," Aren roared as he twisted the leg, shattering it, and ripping it clean off, his eyes gleamed with pure anger.

The werewolf fell to the ground hard, the pain from a missing leg filled it, it immediately tried to scramble away, but Aren wasted no time at all, he pulled out Ancient Devourer, stabbing it right into the heart of the werewolf.

"Drink up." Aren said, he watched as the Ancient Devourer consumed every drop of blood that was inside the body of the wolf eagerly until there was nothing left to be consumed and the body was a dry husk.

He pulled out the blade from it, and then looked ahead, he didn't have the time for anything that was here, he wanted to forge ahead fast.

But the actions of Aren up till now had raised many concerns amongst the watching angels and even the gods. And that was the fact that Aren wasn't facing even a little struggle here, and that was not right.

Chapter 258: Door

Aren kept moving forward, and not long after, he saw something take form inside the fog, a door. Its black metal surface blended with the fog, but the blood red glowing crystals at the center gave some light.

It was marked in a symmetrical manner, with exactly the same pattern on either side. It looked like an abstract drawing of an angel kneeling, both facing each other.

"We've found it," he muttered.

Athena walked to his side, her eyes lingered on the door, then she looked at Aren. "Do we go through?" she asked.

"Yeah, we should, but I have a few questions," he muttered and turned around, looking at the fog behind them. "What is the correlation of this place to what's behind the door?"

"I find it hard to believe that these angels would make a trial that doesn't function well, everything has at least had some sort of reliable connection," Aren said. He took a few steps away from the door.

"But this one, it had werewolves in a fog, where did the wolves even come from? What's their connection to the Angel's call trial?" Aren paused. He looked at the door for even longer, then all of a sudden he raised his hands and slashed, unleashing a claw strike.

It ripped through the air and hit the door, cutting deep into the metal, but the metal healed up almost instantly, and nothing happened.

"Hmmmm, I thought for sure something might happen," Aren said.

"What did you expect to happen?" Athena asked.

"I'm not sure myself," Aren replied. "I guess I'm overthinking things." He said and then approached the door. Athena followed behind. He placed his hand on the door and pushed it in, and instantly the door opened, and in that very moment, his shadow sense picked something coming from the door.

Very quickly, Aren pulled back, pushing Athena out of the way as well, as dark arms extended from the door. They were twisted and lean, looking like they had been sucked dry, their nails were extremely long.

Aren and Athena looked at the arms as they flailed around, trying to grab them, and when it couldn't grab them, it started changing. The door shifted form, twisting and turning until what stood before them was a towering ten feet tall monster with four elongated yet muscular twisted arms, powerful humanoid legs that cracked the ground just from standing there, and an elongated tail.

At the center of this monster's chest was the same crystal that had been on the door, it pulsed with energy as it slowly sunk under the skin of the chest. This monster didn't have eyes, but there seemed to be two large holes on either side of the head, acting as ears.

"I should have believed my gut," Aren muttered as he looked at this monster.

He still had no idea what was happening here, but one thing was for sure, he needed to deal with whatever this was right now.

RAWRRRRR, the monster let out a thundering roar and then attacked, swinging its hands at Aren.

Aren pulled back fast and evaded the attack. He looked up at the monster and then rushed ahead. It punched from above, he moved to the side, evading the attack as the two fists slammed into the ground and cracked the floor.

'Its attacks seem pretty slow, I can handle that for sure,' Aren thought. He scanned around with his eyes to attack, but then suddenly the monster twisted its body, swinging its hands backward at Aren so fast it moved like a whip.

Aren saw the attack coming, he pulled his hands up to block the attack.

BAM

Aren was thrown back through the air, gritting his teeth hard.

"Tch, it packs a punch."

He landed on his feet, skidding across the platform, dust rising as he moved.

"I can't follow its movement like I normally would with shadow sense," Aren complained. He charged again, rushing ahead fast. He unleashed a claw strike.

The claw strike slashed into the monster, blood gushed out, black as night, but the wound healed instantly. It leaned forward and let out a roar, then charged at Aren.

Aren attacked with another claw strike, but this time the monster crossed its arms and somehow hardened them. The attack slammed into its crossed arms, it was pushed back but it didn't cut t
