Chapter 12 - Her Tribulation

[Yuelan's POV]

She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the tribulation.

Xuan had given her a small rundown of his experience, and it didn't sound very pleasant.

Still, she didn't hesitate to click "Yes."

The moment she did, she closed her eyes, preparing for the worst.

Yet no pain came, and when she finally reopened her eyes, she was met with a mystical sight.

It was a training ground with several training dummies scattered around, each resembling a monster she had faced.

And high up in the sky was a giant moon that overlooked the entire training ground.

The moonlight that shone down on her seemed extremely soothing, almost as if she belonged here.

And that was when a few pop-ups appeared, causing Yuelan's brows to furrow.

1. Perform 1,000,000 Vertical Swings (0 / 1,000,000)

2. Run 50,000 Laps around the training ground (0 / 50,000)

3. Cultivate under moonlight for 30 continuous days without moving or speaking (0 / 30)

↳ Completion Reward: Basic Swordsmanship of the Moonpiercing Saintess

"But what about my tribulation...?" Yuelan mumbled.

I'm supposed to do all that... and also cultivate for 30 days straight? I'm not a Spirit Warrior yet, so I won't even be getting the Qi... It'll all be going to waste.

Before her anger could take over, she took a deep breath, calming herself down.

Right... this is an endurance trial. I need to endure.

With those thoughts, a determined expression appeared on her face.

She looked around and finally spotted a silver sword.

Yuelan picked it up and, without wasting any time, began swinging.

1 / 1,000,000

2 / 1,000,000

[Xuan's POV]

342,800,000 / 409,600,000

Xuan finally stopped cultivating as he stood up and stretched. He had gone up a few realms, and he could already feel how light his body had gotten.

While cultivating, he didn't need to eat or sleep that much, so he only stopped cultivating once every month or so to get a drink or something of the sort.

And as expected a lot of time had passed.

He felt pretty strong now, or at least much stronger than when he first began cultivating. He could probably crush a boulder with a single hand. Though that might also just be his ego talking.

Anyhow, as he glanced toward a certain slab in the middle of the cave, he saw Yuelan cross-legged, sweat pouring down her face.

She had been at it for longer than him, and yet...

Name: Xiao Xuan

Mental Strength: 4,800 → 11,800

She's still at the Ninth Level of Spirit Apprentice. Just what kind of tribulation is she going through?

He waited a few minutes, and upon not getting a reply, he let out a sigh and walked to the cave's exit.

Xuan easily pushed the boulder aside, then put it back.

He swiftly sprinted toward the city, his stomach rumbling from all the horrible food he had eaten.

His speed was extremely fast compared to the last time he was out; however, he was still not sure what the difference between Spirit Warrior and Spirit Apprentice was.

Qi flowed fast, and his strength was enhanced. Aside from that, he didn't notice a change.

But that was when he finally arrived at the city and immediately noticed a few people scattered around.

They were geared with cool swords and even some shiny armor.

Xuan was not sure how they were able to obtain something like this, but that was when he remembered what the woman had mentioned.

Events.

Their gear looked way too special to have been man-made, and to date, Xuan had not even been to an event.

As he approached them, trying to strike a small conversation, the ground suddenly shook.

And that was when the pop-ups began pouring down.

One of the people ahead clicked their tongue.

"A fucking lesser demonic drake? Should we just scram?"

"Dude... we have spears. Just keep distance and stab it. We'll get it eventually."

"Yeah? And how are we supposed to get through its shell, huh? Even with Qi... I don't think it'll be enough."

Xuan raised a brow in amusement as he approached them.

He whistled on the way over, and only then did they finally notice him.

"Hmm...? Who are you?"

"Xuan," he introduced himself. "This is my first time being in one of these events... it seems pretty exciting. Any tips for a newbie?"

The man scoffed.

"Run back home where you came from. You have no gear, and you don't even have a spirit weapon. How are you planning on doing real damage to that thing?"

Xuan tilted his head.

"What's a spirit weapon?"

The man looked at him as if he was an idiot before turning to his group mates.

They discussed something under their breaths, and the man turned back to Xuan.

"Since it seems like you've been living under a rock, I'll give you a quick rundown."
