The second time the Nightmaw attacked, Vee understood something very important about life.
Life was unfair.
Specifically, his life.
The creature moved through the forest like a nightmare given physical form—branches snapping, ground trembling, shadows bending away from its presence as if even nature didn't want to be involved in what was about to happen.
Vee stood still.
"…Okay," he muttered. "New rule: if I die again, I'm uninstalling reality."
[SYSTEM RESPONSE: NOT POSSIBLE.]
"…Of course it isn't."
The Nightmaw roared.
The sound shook his bones.
Vee raised a hand slightly.
"Quick question."
The creature lunged.
Vee finished anyway.
"…Do I get any training montage or—"
Impact.
💀 DEATH #2
Silence.
Darkness.
Then—
[DEATH REGISTERED]
Vee exhaled into nothing.
"…Yeah. That felt faster."

Light returned.
Pain followed.
Vee collapsed onto the forest floor again.
Second time.
Same forest.
Same monster.
Same bad life choices.
"…I'm starting to think this world doesn't like me," he muttered.

The Nightmaw was still there.
Still waiting.
Still very committed to ruining his existence.
It tilted its head.

Vee sighed.

He pointed at it.
"I am clearly underleveled for this area."
The beast growled.
Vee nodded.
"Yeah, I get it. You don't care."
He rolled his shoulders.
"…So I have a proposal."
Pause.
The Nightmaw lunged anyway.
"—I improve or I die faster. Got it."

This time, Vee tried something different.
He ran.
It didn't help.
He dodged.
It helped slightly less.
He screamed.
That helped emotionally, but not physically.

Light.

The forest changed tone immediately.
Even the Nightmaw hesitated.
Vee slowly sat up.
"…Okay," he muttered. "New problem."
A girl stepped into view.
Calm.
Focused.
Long dark hair tied neatly.
A blade at her side.
She looked at Vee.
Then at the monster.
Then back at Vee.
"…Why are you still alive?"
Vee raised a hand.
"Technically? Barely."
The Nightmaw growled again.
The girl sighed.
"…You're in the wrong area."
Vee nodded.
"Yeah. I noticed that after death number three."
She drew her sword.
The air changed instantly.
Even Vee felt it.
"…Oh," he said quietly. "She's strong."

Vee pointed at the system.
"Why didn't you warn me before?"
[YOU DID NOT ASK NICELY.]
"…I hate you."
[NOTED.]
⚔️ THE REAL FIGHT
The girl moved.
Fast.
Clean.
Precise.
The Nightmaw reacted instantly—but not fast enough.
Claws met steel.
Steel won.
Vee watched silently.
"…Okay," he muttered. "So that's what a non-noob looks like."
The girl glanced at him mid-fight.
"Don't stand there."
Vee blinked.
"…Respectfully, I have no idea where else to stand."
She clicked her tongue.
"…Just don't die."
Vee smiled faintly.
"Working on it."

Even with her help, the Nightmaw struck Vee once.
Just once.

Vee smiled.

He flexed his fingers.
"…Turns out dying is a really good teacher."
The Nightmaw lunged again.

Vee didn't just dodge.
He stepped in.
