Chapter 27 - The Empty Haven

The air in the cellar went dead. Alistair felt his consciousness pulled out of his own head and shoved into a thousand different places at once.

He gasped, but he wasn't just breathing his own air. He felt the lungs of every person in the Haven expand and contract in his own chest. It was a massive, physical weight. Through the link, he saw the flickering torches in the mining tunnels and the glowing spires in the center of the valley. He felt the sting of Vane's wounds and the rapid pulse of a thousand terrified heartbeats as if they were happening to his own body.

Alistair's knees hit the dirt. The sheer amount of information—every person's hunger, fear, and movement—was a physical blow to his mind.
