Chapter 71 - Chapter 71 – Malfoy Learns About Gravity

"Of course, Professor."

Lucas agreed immediately.

He wasn't worried in the slightest about other people learning the techniques described in his paper.

Because the requirements were absurd.

To perform non-Animagus human transformation safely required terrifying magical power and an exceptionally complete soul.

At minimum, someone needed magical reserves comparable to Dumbledore's level before even attempting it.

Which meant Voldemort in his current fragmented state definitely couldn't learn it.

As for ordinary wizards?

Most would probably explode halfway through the first transformation attempt.

Ultimately, the paper represented more of a revolutionary concept than practical magic for the average wizard.

Rather like the Wolfsbane Potion that would appear years later.

Everyone knew it allowed werewolves to remain sane during transformations.

But very few could actually afford the ingredients consistently.

Dumbledore clearly understood this too.

However, he mistakenly attributed Lucas's overwhelming magical reserves to his unusual ability to cast wandless magic naturally.

As Lucas left the office, Dumbledore smiled warmly at him.

"I'm relieved," he said sincerely, "that you chose to focus your talent on Transfiguration rather than becoming consumed by Dark Arts research."

Lucas paused thoughtfully while walking toward the door.

"Dark Arts research?"

He looked genuinely confused internally.

Technically speaking, he'd never really researched Dark Magic properly.

Everything simply became easy the moment he read it once.

Nine points in Dark Arts mastery truly felt unfair sometimes.

Still, he wisely chose not to explain that part.

The long-awaited flying lesson finally arrived that afternoon.

The class took place on the large lawn beside the Forbidden Forest, where dozens of old school brooms lay neatly arranged across the grass.

Madam Hooch stood before the students sharply.

"Everyone stand beside a broomstick," she ordered loudly.

"Now stretch out your right hand over the broom and say: Up!"

"UP!" the students shouted together.

Most of the brooms didn't move.

A few merely twitched weakly.

Lucas, however, didn't even get the chance to speak.

The moment he raised his hand slightly, his broom violently leapt straight into his grip as though terrified of disappointing him.

Lucas blinked.

"…That's slightly aggressive."

Nearby, both Harry and Kassandra managed to summon their brooms immediately as well.

Hermione's broom merely rolled around uselessly on the grass without actually rising, causing visible panic.

Neville's broom remained completely motionless.

Honestly, it looked personally offended by his existence.

Eventually, Madam Hooch finished correcting everyone's posture and stood back in front of the class.

"When I blow my whistle," she announced, "kick off from the ground hard and hold steady!"

Unfortunately, Neville Longbottom panicked before she even finished speaking.

With a terrified yelp, he accidentally launched himself into the air immediately.

"Neville!" several students shouted.

The broom shot upward violently.

Neville clung to it desperately like a terrified monkey.

"Come back, boy!" Madam Hooch shouted anxiously.

If Neville flew too high and fell…

Magic might not save him in time.

High above the ground, Neville finally realised exactly how far up he'd gone.

His face turned pale with horror.

Then his grip slipped.

The broom flew one direction.

Neville went another.

Screams erupted across the field as Neville plummeted rapidly toward the ground.

Lucas reacted instantly.

His wand appeared in his hand almost before anyone noticed the movement.

"Arresto Momentum!"

Neville's falling body suddenly slowed dramatically just before impact.

Instead of crashing violently, he drifted downward gently like a floating leaf before finally landing softly on the grass several metres above the ground.

Madam Hooch exhaled in visible relief.

"Oh, thank goodness," she breathed before hurrying over to Neville immediately.

The surrounding students stared at Lucas in astonishment.

Hitting a rapidly falling target accurately with a slowing charm wasn't easy even for older students.

More importantly, while everyone else had frozen in panic, Lucas alone reacted instantly and calmly.

Even Kassandra looked proud enough for both of them.

Meanwhile, Hermione tugged quietly at Lucas's sleeve.

"Can you teach me that spell later?" she whispered nervously.

Honestly, after witnessing Neville nearly die, Hermione suddenly felt deeply afraid of broomsticks too.

"If I learn it," she added quietly, "at least I can save myself if I fall."

Naturally, Lucas agreed immediately.

In fact, he ended up teaching the charm to nearly everyone nearby on the spot.

Even if they couldn't cast it properly yet, simply knowing it existed restored some confidence after Neville's terrifying accident.

Fortunately, Neville himself remained completely unharmed thanks to the slowing charm.

Emotionally, however, he looked traumatised.

Eventually, Madam Hooch decided to escort him personally to the Hospital Wing for Madam Pomfrey to examine him properly.

Before leaving, she turned sharply toward the remaining students.

"Put your broomsticks down immediately," she ordered. "No one is to fly while I'm gone."

Her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Anyone who disobeys will be expelled."

Then she left with Neville.

Unfortunately, Draco Malfoy clearly considered school rules optional.

The moment Madam Hooch disappeared from sight, Draco picked up Neville's dropped Remembrall and began laughing loudly.

"Did you see his face?" Draco sneered. "That idiot looked ready to faint before he even fell."

Several Slytherins immediately laughed along with him.

Gryffindor students glared angrily.

Then Draco tossed the Remembrall casually between his hands.

"I think I'll leave this somewhere for Longbottom to collect later," he announced smugly. "Maybe on top of a tree?"

With that, he mounted his broom and kicked off into the air.

Harry exploded instantly.

"Give that back!"

Ignoring Hermione's desperate warnings about expulsion, Harry launched himself upward after Draco.

"Hand it over," Harry shouted angrily, "or I'll knock you off your broom!"

Draco's confidence wavered immediately.

Honestly, he was slightly terrified of Harry's recklessness.

Especially without Crabbe and Goyle nearby.

"Fine!" Draco snapped nervously. "Catch it if you can!"

He threw the Remembrall high into the air before immediately trying to descend toward safety.

Harry shot upward after it.

Meanwhile, Draco suddenly noticed something horrifying waiting below him.

Lucas Summers hovered calmly in front of him on a broomstick.

This also happened to be Lucas's first time riding a broom.

To his immense relief, broomsticks apparently included magical protections preventing certain extremely uncomfortable accidents.

Honestly, that was the first thing he'd tested.

Draco's face paled.

"What do you want?" he asked nervously.

After all, Lucas had already beaten him once before school even started.

Even Lucius Malfoy had warned Draco repeatedly not to provoke him again.

Lucas smiled pleasantly.

"Nothing serious," he said casually. "I just wanted to see what the noble heir of House Malfoy looks like during freefall."

Draco froze.

Then panic exploded across his face.

He immediately tried steering around Lucas toward the ground.

Too late.

Lucas suddenly accelerated forward.

One hand grabbed Draco directly by the collar.

Then—

Draco felt himself lifted completely off his broomstick.

His brain stopped functioning briefly.

Lucas was casually holding him suspended in midair one-handed.

"AAAAAH!"

Draco kicked wildly while dangling helplessly above the ground.

Meanwhile, Lucas calmly continued ascending higher.

The distance between Draco and the grass below increased rapidly.

Lucas tilted his head thoughtfully.

"You mocked Neville's expression earlier," he said mildly. "But honestly?"

He looked disappointed.

"Your expression right now is much uglier."

Then Lucas smiled brightly.

"Come on. Give me a smile, young master."

And released him.

For one horrifying second, Draco's brain refused to process what happened.

Then gravity won the argument.

"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
