As Lucas continued reading, genuine shock slowly appeared in his eyes.
If this soul magic truly worked the way the book described, then in certain situations, it was even more terrifying than the Killing Curse itself.
After all, the Killing Curse could still be blocked under special circumstances.
Sacrificial protection.
Rare magical artefacts.
Certain ancient forms of magic.
But this soul spell?
According to the book, ordinary defence meant absolutely nothing against it.
However, as Lucas kept reading further, he finally understood why this magic never became as feared as Avada Kedavra.
Because the spell carried an absurdly dangerous requirement.
To use it successfully, the caster's soul had to be stronger than the target's.
If the target's soul strength exceeded the caster's, the spell would fail completely.
And if someone forced the spell recklessly anyway…
…the backlash would kill the caster instead.
Lucas stared at the page thoughtfully.
So this magic was basically gambling with souls.
Either your soul overwhelmed the opponent and destroyed them instantly—
Or their soul crushed yours first.
Compared to that, the Killing Curse suddenly seemed far more practical.
After all, if Avada Kedavra could solve the problem directly, why risk your own soul in a fifty-fifty duel?
Still, Lucas quickly realised something important.
He possessed Crisis Alertness.
If he cast this spell and his danger instinct reacted beforehand, that would prove the target's soul was stronger than his own.
Meaning he simply shouldn't cast it.
But if his instincts stayed silent…
Then the spell would work.
A slow smile appeared on Lucas's face.
That was terrifying.
Near the end of the book, the author included both the incantation for the soul spell and a detailed method for measuring soul strength.
There were also rough average ranges listed for ordinary people and typical wizards.
As for the original question—where the soul actually resided within the body—
Even the author never reached a final answer.
Naturally, Lucas immediately tested his own soul strength out of curiosity.
Several minutes later, he stared at the result in disbelief.
His soul strength was more than ten times greater than the average wizard listed in the book.
The system's voice sounded immediately afterward.
"Ding! Host should not underestimate the Great Magician template. The soul of a true great magician naturally far surpasses ordinary humans."
Lucas's mood instantly improved dramatically.
In other words, he could probably use this soul magic successfully against most enemies in existence.
Combined with Crisis Alertness, the spell suddenly became unbelievably dangerous.
Then the familiar system notification appeared again.
"Ding! Host has successfully read one hundred Dark Arts books."
"Reward granted: five skill points."
"Reward granted: Combined Magic Talent."
Lucas blinked.
"Combined Magic Talent?"
"Ding! Combined Magic Talent allows the host to merge multiple spells together freely, enabling a single spell to possess the characteristics of several forms of magic simultaneously."
"Spell power and versatility will increase significantly."
Lucas's eyes lit up instantly.
This ability was absurd.
For example—
If he combined soul magic with the Killing Curse…
The soul spell ignored conventional defence.
The Killing Curse guaranteed death.
Together, they would create a curse that was practically impossible to resist.
The thought alone felt horrifying.
Then came the next question.
Where should the five skill points go?
Lucas considered it carefully.
At the moment, increasing immediate combat strength mattered most.
His Dark Arts mastery already sat at nine points, which honestly was extremely high already.
But his Transfiguration mastery remained at only five.
Too weak.
Sure, improving Dark Arts further would still make him stronger.
But there was one problem:
Dark magic wasn't exactly something he could cast publicly inside Hogwarts corridors without consequences.
Transfiguration, however, was different.
Advanced Transfiguration could massively improve combat ability while still appearing perfectly respectable.
After several seconds of thought, Lucas made his decision.
"All five points into Transfiguration Mastery."
The system responded immediately.
"Ding! Transfiguration Mastery has reached ten points."
"Reward granted: Random Transfiguration Talent."
Lucas blinked in surprise.
"Wait. There's a reward for reaching ten points?"
"Ding! Every mastery attribute grants a special talent after surpassing ten points."
Interesting.
"Ding! Congratulations. Host has obtained: Universal Animagus Talent."
"With this talent, the host may transform freely into any ordinary animal."
"Warning: Magical creatures remain impossible. Host is strongly advised not to attempt transformation into magical species."
Lucas's heartbeat instantly accelerated.
This was incredible.
With the Universal Animagus Talent, countless future problems suddenly became much easier to solve.
The only disappointment was the inability to transform into magical creatures.
Still, Lucas already felt unbelievably satisfied.
Tonight's harvest was absurd.
He'd obtained soul magic.
Combined Magic Talent.
Universal Animagus.
And his Transfiguration Mastery had officially broken through ten points.
Most importantly, reading one hundred Dark Arts books hadn't been pointless at all.
Although his Dark Arts mastery still hadn't reached ten points yet, Lucas could feel it approaching rapidly.
And the knowledge he'd gained from those forbidden books was priceless.
By the time he finally looked up again, it was already six in the morning.
Lucas stretched tiredly.
The system mission was complete.
Which meant he no longer needed to sneak into the Restricted Section every single night.
Just thinking about finally sleeping properly again nearly moved him to tears.
Lucas put away his wand.
Then, moments later, his body rapidly shrank.
Black fur spread across his skin.
A small black cat quietly appeared where he'd been standing.
The kitten slipped silently out of the library.
After reaching an empty corridor and confirming nobody was nearby—not even portraits watching—Lucas transformed back into human form.
He nodded in satisfaction.
The Universal Animagus Talent was unbelievably smooth.
And while transformed, he fully inherited the natural physical abilities of whatever animal he became.
Extremely useful.
Since it was already after six, Hogwarts was beginning to wake up gradually.
Lucas calmly headed toward the Great Hall intending to grab breakfast before collapsing into bed for the rest of the day.
Then, while turning a corner, he suddenly saw a familiar figure.
Quirinus Quirrell.
The professor froze the moment he spotted Lucas.
His pale face looked genuinely startled.
Lucas paused briefly too before smiling naturally.
"Morning, Professor Quirrell. Out for exercise?"
"Oh… M-Mr. Summers…" Quirrell stammered nervously. "Y-you're up early too…"
"I was heading for breakfast," Lucas replied casually.
Quirrell nodded too quickly.
"Yes… breakfast… exactly…"
Lucas pointed helpfully down the opposite corridor.
"The Great Hall is that way, Professor."
Quirrell froze.
Then he laughed awkwardly.
"Ah… r-right… I seem to have become a bit confused…"
The two men smiled politely at each other.
Both hiding secrets.
After Lucas finally disappeared around the corner, Quirrell immediately turned and hurried back toward his office.
The moment he entered, he locked the door and layered several protective spells across it.
Then his stutter vanished almost entirely.
"Master," Quirrell whispered nervously, "why did you make me speak with him here?"
A weak, hoarse voice answered from beneath the purple turban wrapped around Quirrell's head.
"Did you not notice where he came from?"
"The library?" Quirrell frowned. "But the library shouldn't even be open yet…"
"Idiot!"
The furious voice hissed violently.
"He was obviously inside the Restricted Section."
A strange excitement entered Voldemort's voice.
"I knew it. He's the same as us."
"The same hunger for power."
Silence filled the office briefly.
Then Voldemort continued softly:
"I have never seen a child wield Fiendfyre so perfectly at his age."
"So now… I wish to speak with him personally."
Quirrell's eyes widened in horror.
"Master! You mean reveal yourself to him directly?"
"Idiot!" Voldemort roared.
Quirrell suddenly screamed and collapsed onto the floor twitching in agony as punishment tore through his body.
After several seconds, the pain finally stopped.
Quirrell lay there gasping weakly.
"M-Master… mercy…"
The hoarse voice spoke again.
"As long as he desires true power, he will eventually stand beside us."
"Dumbledore would never allow him to pursue that kind of magic freely."
A cold laugh echoed through the office.
"So sooner or later…"
"He will choose our side."
