Chapter 265 - Chapter 262

**Chapter 262: The Line Breaks**

In the shadowed depths of a hidden hangar beneath Coruscant's Senate District, the air was thick with the scent of ozone and old stone. Dim red emergency lighting cast long shadows across the polished floor where two figures stood facing each other.

Count Dooku knelt, head bowed, his elegant cape pooling around him. Across from him, the hooded figure of Darth Sidious regarded him with cold, yellow eyes that seemed to drink in the darkness.

"My lord," Dooku began, voice measured but strained, "with General Grievous's attempted offensive stalled, we have lost any realistic chance of seizing the Perlemian Trade Route. The sector is now secure on all sides. The Twelfth Sector under Dagon Marek has solidified its hold faster than anticipated."

Sidious remained silent for a long moment, the only sound the faint hum of distant repulsor traffic far above.

"This was not foreseen in my visions," the Sith Lord finally replied, his voice a low rasp. "Yet the Force moves in ways even I cannot always predict. Christophsis remains blocked—Admiral Trench has pinned Bail Organa's forces there quite effectively. There may still be an opportunity to use the Jedi to lure Dagon into a trap. He grows bold. Boldness can be turned into overextension."

Dooku rose slowly, his expression troubled. "The man is no ordinary Jedi, my lord. His tactics are… unorthodox. He builds his own doctrine, his own fleet. The loss of Saleucami and Methalorn would—"

A sharp chime interrupted him. Dooku's personal communicator rang insistently.

He glanced at the display. "It is Gunray."

Sidious gestured with one clawed hand. "Answer it."

Dooku activated the hologram. The blue image of Viceroy Nute Gunray materialized, his Neimoidian features twisted in panic.

"My lord! It is terrible—Saleucami and Methalorn have fallen! A brutal attack took place in less than a day. There are no survivors among our forces. All our garrisons, shipyards, and defensive fleets… destroyed. The citizens of Saleucami have already begun welcoming Republic forces. They are calling it liberation!"

Dooku's face hardened. "Explain."

Gunray's hands fluttered desperately. "We received fragmented reports before all communications were lost. Massive orbital bombardment, redirected surface cannons, stealth insertions… General Marek's forces used some kind of new fighter doctrine and layered assault. The planets fell before we could reinforce them properly. Methalorn's shipyards are gone. The entire supply corridor to the core Separatist worlds is severed!"

Sidious's eyes narrowed to slits. The hologram flickered as Gunray continued babbling about losses and the need for immediate counteraction.

"Enough," Sidious hissed. The Neimoidian froze mid-sentence. "You have failed, Viceroy. Prepare your remaining assets. The war accelerates."

The transmission ended abruptly. Dooku lowered the communicator, his knuckles white.

"Two planets in one day," he murmured. "The Perlemian Route is now a dagger pointed at Raxus itself."

Sidious turned slowly, the hood casting deep shadows over his face. "Then we adjust. Christophsis remains our lever. Let Organa bleed there. Let the Jedi Council send more generals to 'rescue' him. When Dagon moves to support them, we will be ready. The trap must be elegant. He must believe victory is within reach… until it is not."

Dooku bowed once more. "As you command, my lord."

**Scene 2**

The Coruscant Holonet studio buzzed with controlled energy. Bright lights illuminated the sleek anchor desk where a vibrant green Twi'lek journalist, Lyra Voss, sat with perfect posture and a professional smile.

"Good morning, Coruscant," she began, her voice warm and authoritative. "We have breaking developments from the Outer Rim. Reliable recordings have reached us confirming that General Dagon Marek of the Twelfth Sector launched a decisive offensive against Separatist-held worlds Saleucami and Methalorn. Both planets have fallen to Republic forces within a single day."

Behind her, a large holoscreen activated. Grainy but clear battle footage began to play—captured by Republic probe droids and surviving clone helmet cams.

First came orbital views: the *Terminus* and its Resurgent escorts emerging from hyperspace, the Focused Spectral Array Cannon lancing out to destroy a Separatist destroyer in a single shot. Waves of sleek black TIE fighters and angular Lancers shredded Vulture droid swarms. Explosions bloomed across the void as Recusant and Providence-class ships broke apart under coordinated bomber runs.

The footage shifted to the surface. MAAT gunships showered green cannon fire over collapsing citadels. Seismic charges erupted in rolling blue-green waves mixed with emerald mineral flashes. Clone troopers advanced through ruined streets while TIE Reapers delivered rapid reinforcements.

Lyra continued narrating over the images. "According to military analysts, this lightning campaign has effectively severed the main Separatist supply corridor. With Saleucami and Methalorn now under Republic control, the majority of the Outer Rim territories responsible for supporting the core CIS worlds have fallen. A straight hyperspace line now points directly at Raxus—the heart of the Separatist Parliament—making it vulnerable to future assault."

She leaned forward slightly, her tone growing more serious.

"Senator Bail Organa, currently pinned down on Christophsis, issued a brief statement praising the Twelfth Sector's decisive action. 'This victory proves that bold, coordinated leadership can turn the tide of this war,' he said. However, some voices in the Senate express concern over General Marek's rapid expansion of independent operational authority."

The screen switched to split-view commentary from military experts and senators.

One analyst, a retired Republic admiral, nodded approvingly. "The use of new Sienar fighter designs and layered fleet doctrine appears highly effective. What we saw today was not the standard Republic grind—it was surgical."

A skeptical senator from the Core Worlds countered, "While the tactical success is undeniable, we must ensure such rapid conquests do not lead to overextension or unnecessary civilian risk. The Jedi Council has yet to issue an official statement on General Marek's methods."

Lyra Voss turned back to the camera with a measured smile. "Whatever the political debates, one fact remains clear: in less than twenty-four hours, the strategic map of the Outer Rim has been redrawn. The Separatists have suffered a major blow, and the path toward the heart of their territory now lies open. We will continue to bring you updates as more information becomes available. This is Lyra Voss for the Coruscant Holonet."

The broadcast cut to patriotic music and Republic symbols as analysts began debating the long-term implications.

---

Back in the hidden hangar, Darth Sidious extinguished the small holoprojector he had used to watch the news feed. His yellow eyes gleamed with cold calculation.

Dooku stood nearby, hands clasped behind his back.

"They celebrate too soon," Sidious murmured. "Let them believe the Outer Rim is theirs. When Dagon commits his forces to Christophsis to rescue Organa, we will spring the trap. The Jedi will serve as perfect bait."

Dooku inclined his head. "And if he refuses to take the bait?"

"Then we force his hand," Sidious replied. "The war must escalate. The Republic grows complacent in victory. We will remind them that every gain has a price."

The Sith Lord turned away, cloak swirling.

"Prepare Grievous. Tell him the time for half-measures is over. And keep a close eye on this General Marek. He is becoming… inconvenient."

Dooku bowed deeply. "It will be done, my lord."

As Sidious vanished into the shadows of the hangar, Dooku remained alone with his thoughts. Two planets lost in a day. A new fleet doctrine that had shredded their reinforcements. And now the Holonet was broadcasting Republic triumph across the galaxy.

The war had indeed changed.

And somewhere in the Outer Rim, High Jedi General Dagon Marek was already planning the next move.
