Chapter 36 - The Princess Trapped in the World of Dreams

Chapter 4: The Riddle of the Gatekeeper

The Castle of Mirrors rose high into the sky, its walls made of polished crystal that reflected a thousand different versions of Aurora. Standing before the massive gates was the Keeper.

He looked like an old, old man made of stone and shadow. His eyes were empty holes, and his voice sounded like rocks scraping together.

"Only those who know themselves may enter," the Keeper rumbled. "Answer my riddle, Princess. If you are right, the gate opens. If you are wrong... you become a statue here, forever watching but never moving."

Aurora held her head high. "Ask your question."

The Three Questions

The Keeper raised a long, bony finger.

"I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I?"

Aurora thought quickly. She looked at the map of the dream world in her mind.

"Cities, mountains, water... but none of them are real. They are just shapes and pictures."

"You are a Map," she answered clearly.

"Correct," said the Keeper. "But there is more."

He asked the second question:

"What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you do?"

Aurora smiled. She thought of her name, how servants called it, how her parents spoke it.

"It is my Name," she said.

"Correct again," the shadow grew darker. "The final question is the hardest."

"What is faster than light, yet can never be caught? It is always coming, but it never arrives?"

This time, Aurora was silent. She thought of the wind, of the birds, of time itself.

"It is always coming tomorrow, but it never gets here..."

"It is Tomorrow," Aurora said softly but firmly. "Or... Time itself."

The Key of Truth

The Keeper did not speak. Slowly, his stone face cracked into a smile.

"You know the world, you know yourself, and you understand time," the guardian said. "You are worthy."

The huge gates groaned and slowly swung open. Inside, it was not a palace room, but a vast, endless hall filled with millions of mirrors. Every mirror showed a different scene: some showed Aurora as a baby, some showed her as an old woman, some showed her as a Queen, and some showed her sleeping in her bed in the real world.

In the very center, floating on a pedestal of light, was a small, shining key. It was made of pure crystal, and it pulsed with a warm heartbeat.

"That is the Key of Truth," Miru whispered, excitement in her voice. "Take it, Aurora! Turn it, and you will wake up!"

The Ultimate Temptation

Aurora walked towards the key. But as she reached out her hand, one of the mirrors beside her suddenly became bright.

A figure stepped out from the glass. It was a woman who looked exactly like Aurora, but she was wearing dark, rich clothes, and her eyes were full of power.

"Wait," said the Dark Aurora. "Why do you want to go back? In the real world, you are just a sleeping princess, weak and helpless. Here, in the Dream World, you have met gods and monsters, you have magic in your voice, and you are strong. If you stay, you can become the Queen of this world forever."

The mirrors around them began to chant:

"Stay... Stay... Stay..."

Aurora looked at her dark reflection. She saw the temptation. It was true—here she was powerful. But power without love is empty.

"I learned from the Rǎn Yí Yú to be steady," Aurora said, "and I learned from the Lù Shǔ to sing the truth. But most importantly, I learned that reality is precious because it is fragile."

She turned her back on the Dark Mirror.

"I choose to be human. I choose to wake up."

She grabbed the Key of Truth and turned it in the air.

CLICK.

The Awakening

The sound was like a bell ringing in the center of the universe.

The Castle of Mirrors shattered into millions of sparkling lights. The dream world began to fade away like morning mist. She saw Miru waving goodbye, she saw the Lù Shǔ bowing, and she saw the deep sea calming down.

"Aurora... Aurora..."

A familiar voice was calling her.

Slowly, slowly, the Princess opened her eyes.

The bright sun was shining through the window of her real bedroom. She was lying in her own bed, and standing beside her were her father the King and her mother the Queen, their faces full of tears and joy.

"She is awake! Our daughter is awake!"

Aurora sat up. She felt different. She was still the same Princess, but her eyes were wiser, and her heart was full of courage. She knew that she had traveled far and learned much.

And sometimes, on quiet nights, when the wind blew, she could still hear the faint, beautiful song of the Lù Shǔ, reminding her that even in sleep, we are never truly lost.
