Chapter 9 - Chapter 9- Infernal Ascension

The Crucible was pulsing with a rhythm that felt like a heartbeat and the end of the world at the time.

Kael, Lyra and Drake walked into the Infernal Ascension, which was the step before the Sovereign Test. This was where everything they had been through far. The Abyssal Sea, Tyrant Skies, Endless Labyrinth of Time and Abyss of Judgment. All came together in a really bad dream. The rules of reality did not apply here so gravity, time, space and what was right and wrong did not make sense anymore.

Kaels Infinite Corridor was shaking hard trying to keep everything together as all the different layers came crashing in. He knew away that he could not just control things to get through this. He needed to use every skill he had every lesson he learned every instinct and every choice he made to survive.

Lyra was floating in the air and the flames of the Phoenix were flickering like a drumbeat. The Observer in her mind was screaming out all the possibilities. They were all different and did not make sense. "Everything is happening at the time I do not know what to do " she whispered and her wings were shaking.

Drake Fenr was crouching low to the ground and his Devourer was humming with excitement. He knew that just following his instincts would not be enough he needed to think and be careful too. "This is good something that needs skill " he growled, his eyes narrowing.

Then the biggest threats they had ever seen came at them from all sides.

* There were dragons that were as powerful as a king. They had the power to bend time and were filled with energy from the Abyss.

* There were shadows that could test who they really were and what they believed in at the time.

* There were monsters from the Abyssal Sea that could walk through the air and time and even the corridors.

*. There were fake versions of themselves that were designed to trick them and make them betray each other.

Every time they fought back something else. It was not always good. If they killed an enemy in one world they might kill a friend in another. Every decision they made could mean life or death. They had to be careful.

Kael was making corridors over the place trying to keep them safe and redirect the attacks. Black flames were burning along the space trying to get the predators before they could strike.

Lyra was using her Phoenix fire to stabilize the distortions in time. What was right and wrong. She was focusing on keeping the versions of Kael, Drake and herself together in the chaos.

Drake was jumping forward his Devourer shredding the illusions and unstable parts of space-time. He was following his instincts. He was also being careful and thinking about what he was doing. One wrong move. He could become a threat to the others.

Then the Crucibles final test began.

Elias Grave appeared out of a tear in time his staff glowing with symbols of control. "You are doing well " he said, his voice echoing around them. "You have made it through the convergence.. Just surviving is not enough. You need to be tested on who you're what you believe in and how powerful you are all at the same time. The Sovereign Test is starting now."

The Crucible started shaking. All the layers came together in one place. Gravity was all wrong. Shadows became mirrors of what they wanted and what they were afraid of. Every predator, every illusion and every fragment of time was pushing them to their limits.

Kaels Infinite Corridor was straining, folding in on itself. Lyras Phoenix was screaming with effort flames burning in ways. Drakes Devourer was pulsing, eating up fragments of reality to keep them stable.

Even the Crucible seemed surprised. The three of them were adapting faster than anyone it had tested.

Then the trial of identity began.

The arena went dark. Echoes of Kael, Lyra and Drake appeared out of the shadows. They were copies but with small flaws. "Choose," the Crucible whispered. "Which ones are real? Which ones will live? Which ones will die?"

Lyras Phoenix flared up. The Observer was screaming out possibilities. If she attacked one Kael another Kael might die. If she hesitated one Drake might betray her. She realized that every choice she made would have consequences.

Kael was fighting his echo a version of himself that had given up on what was right to survive. They were clashing corridors snapping violently as reality itself was threatened. Every strike had consequences across all the layers and a wrong move could erase both of them or create a paradox.

Drake was facing echoes of himself each one representing his instincts without any control. Every strike risked erasing one of his selves forever. He hesitated once and the Crucible punished him immediately warping reality into a deadly loop.

The three of them realized at the time that they needed to work together not fight each other. They needed to accept their fears, doubts, instincts and what they believed in as one thing.

They started working and their skills merged.

Kael was making corridors around the echoes folding reality to bring them together of fighting them. Black flames were burning through the instability anchoring the fragments to their selves.

Lyra was focusing her Phoenix flames in a spiral working with the Observer and the corridors. The possibilities were coming together allowing her to act at the time and in the right place. The flames were both a weapon and a stabilizer.

Drake was synchronizing his Devourer with their movements eating up the instability while keeping the echoes safe. His instincts were not alone; his morality and strategy were guiding him.

Together they created a center that the Crucibles chaos could not break. The biggest predators collapsed in on themselves the shadows merged with the echoes and the huge monsters froze in mid-attack. The arena itself seemed to pause, recognizing their mastery.

Then Elias made one attempt.

His symbols flared up violently pulling in dilemmas, physical threats and time anomalies into one crushing wave. "This is the test " he whispered. "Decide who you are and who you are willing to destroy. Power, morality, identity. Choose one or all of you will perish."

Kael, Lyra and Drake faced the choice. The Sovereign Test demanded sacrifice, clarity and unity.

Kael spoke up his corridors snapping gently around them. "We survive together. We fail together. No one gets left behind. That is our choice."

Lyra nodded, her Phoenix flames expanding into a spiral anchoring their perception and morality.

Drake growled, his Devourer pulsing. "Instinct, morality, control. All of it. Together."

With one synchronized effort they merged their skills, morality and identity into one force. The Crucible screamed, trying to break them. The three of them held firm.

The arena was shaking violently. The Crucible had never seen cohesion. Adaptation, morality, perception and instinct all integrated into one unit.

The biggest predators, shadows and huge monsters were absorbed into the center stability spreading outward. The Crucible pulsed one time but the trios unity was absolute.

Lucifer Morningstar appeared in the Throne Void leaning forward. "This is amazing " he said. "The three of you have survived the Infernal Ascension. You have kept your identity, morality and instinct in impossible conditions. But the ultimate choice is coming. Who will take the power and who will take the throne?"

The Crucible was shimmering around them getting ready for the layer. The Throne of the Infernal, where power, perception and choice would all come together with no escape.

Kael, Lyra and Drake were standing together battered but not broken. The Sovereign Test had pushed them to the edge of existence. They had not fractured.

For the time they understood one truth. They were ready, for the final confrontation.
