Elena stared at the small orange bottle in her hand for what felt like forever, her delicate fingers tightening around it as if it might bite her.
The label Lunareth Stabilizers seemed to burn between us.
I grabbed it from her quickly, forcing a casual shrug. "It helps me calm down, Elena. And it helps me get good sleep sometimes."
She didn't move. Her eyes stayed locked on me, wide and searching, as if trying to read every hidden truth behind my words.
The silence stretched until it felt suffocating. Finally, she handed me a towel without another word, but her gaze lingered too long on my face.
I walked into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me, but even the sound of running water couldn't quiet my racing thoughts.
The warm spray hit my skin, yet my mind kept spinning in different directions Lucas's threats couldn't seem to leave me.
