IVY'S POV
I recognized his voice instantly.
The moment it sounded behind me, deep and controlled enough to make my stomach turn, every thought in my head scattered at once.
I turned very slowly, my fingers slipping away from the handle of the pink door as my eyes lifted toward him.
Nicholas Vault, he was standing at the end of the hallway like he had been there the entire time.
"You should not be here," he said firmly.
My heart stumbled painfully against my chest.
How in God's name did he get here?
I knew for a fact I had heard his door shut earlier.
I had even waited hours before stepping out of my room, listening carefully to make sure the hallway was empty before sneaking over here.
Had he been monitoring me the entire time? Watching me again?
His voice sliced through my thoughts before I could make sense of them.
"You tend to forget you live in a den of vampires, Ivy," he said as he began walking toward me slowly. "Nothing slips through my notice."
