Jay's POV
Next Day
Morning came, whether I was ready or not.
I had to go to school today. Not just attend… but test them.
I got up, freshened up, and walked downstairs.
"Good morning, Jay," Kuya Angelo greeted.
"Good morning, Kuya."
He looked a little serious today.
"Jay, I'm leaving for a business meeting in London. Mama and Tita Geena are going to visit Lola. Aries will be at Ella's house—her parents are out of town. We'll all be back on Monday."
I nodded quietly.
"And since you wanted it, all the helpers are on leave too. Now eat quickly—Aries is waiting for you."
"Okay, Kuya… thank you."
I picked up my bag and started walking toward the door.
"Jay."
I stopped.
"Yes, Kuya?"
He looked at me carefully, like he was trying to read something I wasn't saying.
"Are you okay?"
I forced a small smile.
"Yes, Kuya."
Before he could say anything else, she appeared.
My so-called mother.
She walked up to me and suddenly hugged me.
"Have a good day," Jeena said softly. "And think about what I told you… okay? Bye."
Her words echoed in my head.
And just like that—
Flashback
Last night…
After everything… after that emotional moment… I was finally feeling a little okay.
But then she came in.
"You know," Jeena said coldly, "you're a burden."
My chest tightened.
"Do you even know? Because of you, he has to take medicine."
I clenched my fists.
"Why do you care now?" I snapped. "Where were you when you gave him to Tita Geena?"
"I care because he's my son," she said sharply. Then her eyes darkened.
"And you? You're a worthless piece of trash. Nobody cares about you."
"That's not true," I said, my voice shaking. "Everyone cares about me."
She laughed.
"No. Nobody does."
Each word hit harder than the last.
"And I think it's good that Section E and Kefier used you. Think about it—who would ever love a girl like you?"
My breathing stopped.
"A tomboy… with no direction in life."
I couldn't speak.
"So here's some advice," she continued, smirking."Leave everyone."
My heart dropped.
"Especially Aries."
That hurt the most.
"You'll only hurt them more if you stay."
Silence filled the room.
Before I could say anything…
She walked away.
A few minutes later, Kuya Angelo came in.
But by then…
I had already started breaking.
Flashback Ends
I blinked, coming back to reality.
Her words still lingered.
Was she right…?
Am I really a burden…?
Would everyone be better off without me…?
I clenched my bag tighter.
No.
That's exactly why—
I need to test them.
