Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Sun in the Alleyway

Old Man Rom trotted up to the Guard captain and stood at attention, looking like a straight-backed little mountain.

"You've caught this old man!"

The Guard captain shook his head numbly.

"Oh heavens, I don't want to arrest you anymore. Please, just let me go. I'm about to retire."

By my Dragon God! With a person this massive, he'd probably have to drink beer out of a bathtub.

One person could probably eat as much as ten.

"Old Man Rom, put that on your hands."

Grin gave a low-voiced hint, repeatedly pointing his Fingers at the iron chain on the Guard captain's waist.

"Hand it over!"

Old Man Rom immediately grasped Grin's meaning.

He reached out with his thick Fingers, grabbed the iron chain, and gave it a sharp yank, causing the Guard captain to spin instantly like a top.

The old man spun around for a long time but still couldn't manage to tie the chain around himself.

To prevent any complications from the delay, Old Man Rom quickly called Grin over to help.

Grin was very familiar with such things and successfully tied Old Man Rom up in just a few moves.

"Alright, Old Man Rom, you're under arrest."

At that same moment, the entry for [Giant Catcher Jack] in the dark fairy tale book was unlocked.

Old Man Rom nodded with satisfaction and roared at the surrounding crowd as if giving an acceptance speech:

"Everyone, look at me! Look at me, look at me! I have an announcement to make!"

"This old man has been arrested! Stop spectating! The laws of the Royal Capital stand above all else; even if I am of the Giant Race, I cannot escape them!"

After shouting for a while, he inexplicably crouched down and asked,

"By the way, Master Guard, is the beer at your place brewed from this year's new wheat?"

*Pfft!*

The Guard captain spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground.

Grin then walked over to the Guard captain to deliver the final blow:

"Remember that lost princess I mentioned last time? This old man is her guardian among the common folk."

*Pfft!*

The height of the Guard captain's blood spray reached a new record.

After recovering for a good while, he finally stood up and beckoned to another soldier in the squad.

"An Zhui, come here for a moment."

The young Guard named An Zhui walked over, looking confused.

"Captain, any instructions?"

The Guard captain wore a kind smile and patted An Zhui's shoulder trustingly.

"An Zhui, you are the most outstanding Guard in our squad. Today, I announce that you will take my place and become the new captain of the Seventh Squad of the Kingdom's City Guard!"

"How can that be? I... I still need more experience..."

"Experience my ass! You're the captain now anyway. I'm announcing my immediate retirement!"

With that, the captain took off his helmet, jammed it onto An Zhui's head, and vanished in a flash.

The oversized helmet covered An Zhui's eyes.

By the time he pushed up the visor, the old captain was long gone. He looked at the few Guards under him in a daze.

"What... what should we do?"

"You... you're the captain now. We all listen to you."

Old Man Rom walked over impatiently and lifted An Zhui up with one hand, like picking up a little chick.

"This old man knows where the prison is! Now hurry up and take me there to dri— to rot in jail!"

After taking two steps toward the prison, Old Man Rom turned around to wave goodbye to Grin.

"Little Grimm, no need to rush to bail me out."

After giving his instructions, the old giant left, surrounded by the Guards.

Grin's lip twitched; he hoped the prison's financial budget could handle the strain.

Only after reaching a secluded alley did Grin summon the "dark fairy tale book" to check it.

The illustration of a heroic youth standing atop a giant's corpse was glowing, holding a cracked crown high in his hand.

[Giant Catcher Jack]

Abilities: Agile, Brave, Master Milker (Cows)

Items: One magic bean, one near-broken Giant Crown

(Upon wearing it, the body will undergo gigantification for 3 minutes. Due to lack of maintenance, it will dissipate after one use.)

"Whoa, this is basically a Tiga trial card!"

Grin was secretly astonished.

Under the powerful halo of the Giant Crown, Grin directly ignored the existence of the magic bean.

With this treasure, when I see the White Whale, I'll give it an Ultra Kick to avenge the grudge of being chased into a frantic retreat back then... Adjusting his mood, Grin prepared to cross the alley and return to the main street.

Just then, three men—one thin, one short, and one burly—approached from the opposite end of the alley, cornering a young girl in a red dress.

"Little girl, behave yourself!"

"Are you kidding me?"

"Be careful, or I'll beat your pretty face until it's swollen!"

The girl opened the feathered folding fan in her hand, covering the corner of her mouth, her eyes full of mockery.

"Oh my, oh my~ How surprising. People of poor character even have such tasteless ways of picking a fight."

Grin realized—wasn't this Priscilla?

The scrawny thug named Rachins, provoked by Priscilla, drew two small knives from behind his back.

"Arrogant woman, I advise you to put down everything valuable on you, or you won't be leaving in one piece."

Priscilla looked at the knives in Rachins' hands with contempt and laughed:

"With those two nail clippers in your hands? Even if this mistress stands perfectly still, you won't be able to harm a single hair of mine."

The other shorty thug, despite his small stature, had the most explosive temper.

Hearing Priscilla's mockery, he rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward.

*Crunch!*

A certain someone observing from the shadows stepped on a withered leaf.

In the silent alley, the crisp sound instantly drew their gazes.

Grin Felt embarrassed and helplessly stepped out from the shadows.

"This is too ridiculous, Priscilla! I clearly checked the path behind me; how could a dry leaf suddenly appear?"

He complained in exasperation; it must be someone's "Divine Protection of the Sun" at work again.

Priscilla wasn't surprised at all, maintaining her haughty posture.

"Commoner, do not address this mistress by her name so directly."

After seeing Grin's face clearly, she seemed to recall something for a second or two.

"Oh~ Isn't this the little squid who broke out of prison?"

Grin's lip twitched violently, and he was momentarily at a loss for words.

Great, now he had another nickname.

The ignored "Chin-Ton-Kan" trio of thugs grew angry, but just as they were about to start cursing, they froze upon seeing Grin.

Grin used to hang around the Slums as well, so he had actually met them a few times.

Rachins recognized Grin and quickly blocked the impulsive shorty thug, warning:

"Everyone be careful, it's the cat-and-dog duo from the loot warehouse. That blonde girl with the short sword must be hiding nearby too!"

"Damn it, weren't they both arrested?"

With that, he reached out to carefully shield his eyes, clearly guarding against something.

Back when Grin and Felt fought for territory in the Slums, they would always throw lime powder first.

Once the enemy lost their balance, Felt would strike like lightning and send them flying.

Grin took a deep breath and cracked his knuckles.

"Stop giving me those f*cking nicknames!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Grin turned into an afterimage.

His powerful physical techniques allowed him to move through them like a tiger among sheep.

In less than ten seconds, the three thugs were slumped on the ground, wailing for their parents.

Priscilla walked satisfyingly into the center of the group, maintaining her position as the focal point.

"This mistress told you already—even if the sun stands still, it is not something mortals can approach."
