Chapter 106 - Dynamax Castform[Dynamax Energy Collection Device (Green)]

A device capable of gathering Dynamax energy and storing it for use during battle.

Red took the collection device out from the System Space.

What appeared before him looked suspiciously similar to a microwave oven.

The entire device was white.

But unlike a normal microwave, it had two antennae mounted on top.

To Red, it looked more like some weird hybrid between a microwave and an old television set.

After placing the device on the ground, Red smacked it firmly and muttered:

"So… how do you use this thing?"

At that moment, he suddenly felt the psychic spoon in his hand shake a few times.

After fumbling around for quite a while, Red finally figured out how the device worked.

To put it simply—

The machine absorbed nearby Dynamax energy.

Once enough energy was accumulated, Pokémon would be able to Dynamax during Gym battles.

Unfortunately—

Kanto seemed especially unloved by Eternatus.

There was pitifully little Dynamax energy in the region.

Judging by the collection speed, successfully gathering enough energy for a single Dynamax battle in one month would already count as extremely lucky.

However—

Besides naturally absorbing ambient energy, the device also had a second function.

It could absorb items rich in Dynamax energy, extract their power, and convert it into usable energy.

After seeing this second function, Red looked down at the psychic spoon in his hand.

Originally, he had intended to just toss it directly into the machine.

But then he remembered—

There was still a living ancient Pokémon sealed inside.

Using it like a battery somehow felt a little inhumane.

Even though in the anime, both the ancient Alakazam and ancient Gengar behaved more like lunatics than intelligent beings.

And although the ancient Alakazam had nearly blasted Songzao Gym into the sky—

Red still decided to talk to it first and give it one more chance.

He extended his consciousness into the psychic spoon.

Very quickly, he found the sleeping psychic Alakazam sealed inside.

And seemingly sensing Red's presence—

The ancient Alakazam slowly opened its eyes.

A voice filled with disdain echoed out.

"Human! Why do you not kneel before a god?"

Hearing the ancient Alakazam speak, Red couldn't help twitching at the corners of his mouth.

"Alakazam, your era ended a very long time ago."

"If you're willing to behave obediently—"

Before Red could finish speaking, merely hearing the word obedient caused the ancient Alakazam to explode in rage.

"What did you say?! Obedient?!"

"I am the god of the Psychic Empire! A supreme existence above all!"

"Though I know not why I was imprisoned here, you are merely a human who stole a fragment of divine power!"

"A human like you—"

Looking at the Alakazam still completely immersed in its ancient worldview, Red sighed helplessly.

"Sigh… when exactly did someone like you qualify to be called a god?"

"Originally, I hesitated about whether to return your freedom."

"But now it seems you should honestly just remain a rechargeable battery."

Without waiting for the ancient Alakazam to continue ranting, Red withdrew his psychic power.

Then without the slightest hesitation, he tossed the psychic spoon directly into the collection device.

"Great Psychic God, just stay there and work as a battery."

"When you finally come to your senses, we'll talk again."

The moment Red turned the ancient Alakazam into a power source—

The collection device's efficiency skyrocketed dozens of times over!

By Red's estimation, it would now only take around twelve hours to fully charge enough energy for one Dynamax battle.

At the same time, Red also grew curious.

"Now that I've got the energy…"

"How exactly do I use Dynamax?"

"If I remember correctly, don't I need something like a Dynamax Band?"

Just as Red was thinking, the System notification sounded in his mind.

[Ding! New items added to the Points Shop:]

Dynamax BandPoké Ball Upgrade

Cost: 20 Points

(Each Pokémon requires its own individual Poké Ball upgrade. Upgrading costs 10 points per Pokémon.)

"Holy crap! What a scammer! An absolute scammer!"

"I've only got less than a hundred points total!"

"I was saving those to upgrade Marshtomp's aptitude!"

"And now you're pulling repeat-consumption microtransactions on me?!"

"Twenty points for a Dynamax Band that the games basically hand out for free is already outrageous!"

"And upgrading Poké Balls costs ten points each?!"

"Why don't you just rob me directly?!"

Faced with Red's furious complaints, the System naturally gave no response whatsoever.

Red hesitated slightly.

"Marshtomp… should we try it?"

Hearing Red's words, Marshtomp wore a completely indifferent expression.

'What aptitude upgrades? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.'

'Everything I have today was earned purely through perseverance and hard work!'

Looking at Marshtomp's determined expression, Red's mouth twitched.

"Right, right. All thanks to your hard work and determination."

"Then do you want to try Dynamaxing first?"

"After all, these points were originally meant for you."

The moment Marshtomp heard that, it refused without the slightest hesitation!

'A true man never needs all those weird gimmicks! As long as one possesses the chis—'

Before it could finish, Red immediately recalled Marshtomp back into its Poké Ball.

At that moment, Red suddenly realized—

Marshtomp might not actually be as calm and steady as he originally thought.

In fact…

It was a little unexpectedly goofy.

Afterward, Red released Castform and Larvitar.

Then he explained the concept of Dynamax to both of them.

After listening to the explanation, Larvitar licked its lollipop and asked:

"Dynamax… does it taste good?"

Red silently took out Larvitar's Poké Ball and recalled it immediately.

As for Ninetales—

Although it was technically still one of Red's main Pokémon—

Ever since the last battle, it had evolved from bodyguard into decorative flower vase.

Until its life-force depletion was fully healed, battling was out of the question.

That left only Castform.

Red took a deep breath and looked toward it.

"So, Castform… want to give it a try?"

Hearing Red's words, for some reason a faint blush appeared on Castform's translucent face before it nodded shyly.

Seeing this, Red nodded in satisfaction.

"Sigh… Castform, you really are the dependable one."

Of course—

What Red didn't know was that Castform was secretly thinking:

'If my body can become dozens of times larger…'

'Wouldn't that mean even more people could admire my beauty?!'

"System, purchase a Dynamax Band."

"And upgrade Castform's Poké Ball."

A black wristband made of some unknown material instantly appeared in Red's hand.

"So this is the Dynamax Band?"

[Dynamax Band (Green)]

Remaining Energy: 1/3

A device that allows Pokémon to Dynamax.

"Oh? It even comes with one free use."

"This System isn't completely heartless after all!"

"Come on, Castform!"

"Let's go test just how powerful this legendary Dynamax really is!"

Castform nodded shyly.

'Let my magnificent form illuminate the entire Gym!'

Meanwhile, back inside Songzao Gym—

Shinji had already changed into the Gym's sky-blue uniform, making him look especially spirited.

However, Red's actual target wasn't Shinji—

It was his older brother, Reiji.

Red looked at Reiji and said:

"Since you're already here…"

"Why not challenge Songzao Gym while you're at it?"

Reiji hesitated for a moment before nodding.

What Reiji didn't know—

Was exactly what kind of horrifying thing was about to greet him.

"Go!"

"Dynamax Castform!"
