Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 > Smooth Stealth Assassination!

In Japantown, inside the underground garage of an abandoned residential building.

Vash and Jackie arrived at the scene, coordinating their action plan inside the car.

"V, for this op we got a good netrunner riding shotgun from afar. Name's T-Bug." Jackie handed Vash a Bluetooth earpiece. "Keeps the line clean — less chance anyone's listenin' in."

"V, hello, I'm Bug."

Vash put on the earpiece and heard a cold female voice. As a top-tier netrunner, T-Bug spoke to everyone in this tone.

"Hello, Bug." Vash greeted.

Although Friday also had hacking capabilities, when following the storyline with Jackie, it was better to be cautious about using this secret weapon.

"The girl we're after is somewhere in this building. Scavs snatched her." Jackie popped open a weapon case and passed Vash a pistol. "Could get messy, so keep your eyes open, choom. Wakako hooked us up — nice piece, got a suppressor."

"Cut the crap, I'm not some rookie." Vash chuckled, already familiarizing himself with the gun's structure as soon as he got his hands on it.

"Alright. Let's take the elevator up."

The two headed for the elevator.

Inside the elevator, they pressed the button for the 14th floor.

They hadn't been standing in the elevator for more than a few seconds when T-Bug's voice came through the earpiece.

"The target is Sandra Dorsett. A few hours ago, the target's bio-monitor signal was lost. She was kidnapped by Scavengers and brought here. The target may already be flatlined."

"She won't die." Vash said calmly.

How could they mess up this first mission?

"Yeah, she won't die. Not with you and me on point — and Bug watchin' our backs." Jackie chimed in.

"Fine, let's go up and see." T-Bug said before cutting off her voice channel.

Ding!

Soon they reached the 14th floor. Vash and Jackie exited the elevator, immediately readying their weapons. This floor was very dilapidated, with the hallway pitch black and full of trash and debris.

Jackie took the lead, charging forward, while Vash followed behind.

"Room 1237, that's where the target was last located, but I can't see her bio-signal. This life-or-death business really sucks. Hurry to the door and hack it open. V, can you open the door?"

"Drop the 'can' and the question format." Vash approached the specialized security door, "Jack, step back two paces and watch the hallway."

"Got it." Jackie stepped back and kept his eyes on the hall.

After moving him a short distance away, Vash double-tapped the triangular pendant, choosing to partially nanoparticle-ize his body. The previously acquired cyberware Monowire was loaded onto his left arm, now coming in handy.

The Monowire possessed extremely strong hacking capabilities and lethality. A line as solid as an infrared beam directly pierced the door's unlock recognition area, instantly hacking the alarm module.

Vash gently pulled, cutting out the entire lock block area.

"Jack." He called softly, then stepped inside.

The room was a mess. Near the window was an operating table with a female corpse covered by a black cloth. The medical equipment nearby and the floor were splattered with large amounts of blood, like a scene from a horror movie.

"These Scav bastards…" Jackie muttered under his breath.

It wasn't that he couldn't stand the sight of dead people, but he couldn't bear to see innocent people tortured to death.

In contrast, Vash was much calmer.

"This isn't Sandra Dorsett. The bio-signal doesn't match. She might still be alive. You need to hurry." T-Bug warned.

The two came directly to a door. Through a tiny gap, they could see several armed Scavenger members inside.

Vash and Jackie exchanged a glance, then gently pushed open the door and silently snuck in.

As a former mercenary, Jackie was quite proficient in stealth assassination. He slowly approached one person, suddenly gripped their neck from behind, snapped it with a crack, killing them, then pushed the body into a nearby freezer.

It was even simpler for Vash. If he were alone, he could have gone on a killing spree with the Monowire in his left hand and the Mantis Blade in his right, but unfortunately, he wasn't.

Without using these methods, he had an even simpler approach. He had Friday first hack all the freezers here to set them to the lowest temperature, then paralyze the Scavenger members' neural reception units.

Finally, Vash only needed to gently push people into the freezers. The extreme temperature would freeze these guys to death!

For these organ-harvesting scum, he wouldn't have an ounce of mercy.

Moments later, all the Scavenger personnel on the perimeter had been eliminated.

Vash and Jackie came to another door. Behind it was a large open space with over a dozen armed Scavenger members. Due to terrain limitations, stealth assassination was no longer an option.

They'd have to face them head-on!
