Chapter 4 - Legacy Quest

Lucas wasn't certain he was ready to start associating with people so he chose not to respond, but after they left he was curious to see what the outside world looked like.

He clicked open his locks and opened the door very slightly checking all around.

'In movies people would fall into a mindless frenzy the moment society collapsed…'

But that didn't seem to be the case, other than the extra dust in the hallway everything seemed pretty much the same.

He let out a calming sigh.

Suddenly he heard the door next to his also unlock before opening, but he remained calm because that house belonged to Stacy.

It seemed like she also had the same idea as he did, only coming out after they had left. She was startled to see him standing there

"Lucas, it's you…"

"Hello," he replied.

Stacy and him weren't close but they have been neighbors for a while so they were familiar with each other. At a time like this that was the closest thing to a bond either of them had.

"How have you been holding up?" She asked brushing her hair behind her ear before folding her arms.

"Good I guess," he replied, not expecting a conversation "how about you?"

He struggled with himself not to look down at her body.

Anytime they met was always the same, he could only pray she had never noticed as he admired her very pretty figure. It was worse on days like this when she was hardly wearing any clothes.

A top with no bra and a short that barely went below her waist.

'How can I be thinking of this at a time like this?' he wondered, disappointed at himself.

"I'm fine…" she paused for a moment, "you wouldn't happen to have some water… and maybe some food in there?"

Yohan didn't have much but he always made sure to stock up on instant pack noodles because those were essential for survival in his world of poverty.

As he poured her a plate while she stared at him eagerly, he started to consider that maybe their meeting outside wasn't a coincidence after all.

Still, he served it to her.

"Thank you…" The words barely left her mouth before she dove into the food.

She didn't stop—not even for a breath. Slurp after slurp, relentless and desperate, until the bowl was scraped clean. Then she grabbed the bottle and drained it in one go.

'How could she finish a whole bottle like that?' he wondered.

Water had become scarce ever since the apocalypse—power outages had cut off supply lines, and every drop mattered. He could stretch a single bottle across an entire day, rationing it carefully. Yet she had emptied one in seconds, as if it meant nothing.

Her eyes lifted to meet his, and only then did it seem to register that she wasn't alone.

"I-I'm sorry… I must look so unsightly…"

"It's fine, I don't mind at all." He replied with a reassuring smile. "Are you full? I can make some more if you want,"

"No, thank you. This is already enough for me, I don't want to be too much of a burden," she rejected, her voice full of consideration.

The silence that followed stretched out for more than a minute. They were never really friends and had not shared a full conversation before today so things were a bit awkward.

"Are you going for the meeting later tonight?" She asked, "I heard they'll be handing out some food,"

"I'm not sure," he replied, "it might be dangerous trusting the wrong person at a time like this,"

"You're right," she agreed, her voice full of energy "that is why I've remained in my room all this while, there's no telling what going through people mind,"

"And then there are those monsters I see patrolling the streets every day. Hopefully the government would soon come and take care of it, and everything would return back to normal,"

"Take care of it?" Lucas repeated, "You were inside when it happened, that is why you think the government can still do something. There is no 'taking care of it', those monsters are everywhere,"

Her face turned pale.

She was still naive because the monsters hadn't entered the building, but after seeing that monster up close, Lucas needed no convincing.

"All the TV and radio stations are dead, the Internet isn't working anymore, I'm guessing the military and the government is just as confused as we are,"

"So what are we supposed to do?" She asked despair setting in.

"I also don't know," he replied flatly.

[LEGACY QUEST]

His brows furrowed as the message suddenly appeared in front of him.

'What is this?'

It seemed like a task, one that had to with his legacy. He thought to ask the system but he couldn't with her still present

"Lucas…?" She called out, pulling his attention back.

"Yeah, just got lost for a moment," he played it cool, ignoring the screen in front of him, "What were you saying?"

"I was saying that attending the meeting might not be such a bad idea after all, we can at least find out more information,"

"You're right," he replied almost immediately, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips "We should even go together, I'll come get you when it's time to go,"

"Okay, I'll be waiting," she replied before heading for the door.

Lucas waited until she was back inside her own house before speaking to the system.

"What is this Legacy Quest?" he asked.

[It is a special task that people with a 'Legacy' receive. You can get special rewards if you complete them, but there's also a punishment for failing them. That is why you have to be careful when accepting]

"So I was right… but what kind of crazy quest is this?!" he wondered.

"Am I supposed to just grab her breasts and check how soft her breasts they are?" he sighed.

[That could work. Legacy Quest are usually connected to you as an individual so it shouldn't be much of a problem, also they normally only last for ten minutes before automatically rejecting, so you better make your choice quickly]
