Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Upper Continents

"I never got your name" Tooka said as he pushed open the wodden door.

"Vance Grave."

They stepped into the waiting area. A few people sat quietly along the walls.

"And your female friends?" Tooka asked waving casually toward the front desk. The orc receptionist tirned red waving back.

"Jennifer"

"I hope you're not lying, Mr.Grave," Tooka said with a smirk glancing over his shoulder.

Vance didn't respond. His eyes drifted to the large map mounted on the left wall of the grey stone hal.

They turned left, passing a row of doors with small windows.

"I did nothing... please let me leave" a weak voice pleaded from behind one of the doors.

Tooka stopped and grabbed a handle.

"Do you have identification card?" He asked as they entered a room lined with steel chairs on each side. Grey walls with wodden floor and ceiling. At front, a goblin sat at a desk typing while staring at the wall mounted screen.

"No," Vance said, glancing back at Skritch. "Do you?"

"...Yes..." Skritch nodded.

"I'll have him make one for you." Tooka said as they approached the desk.

"Thank you." Vance replied, 'he's oddly helpful'

"Don't worry about it," Tooka said. "Our station chief says we should help out when we can. Right, Derrick?"

He yanked the goblin's headphones off.

"What?!" The goblin snapped, spinning around then.

Instantly smiled, "how can I help you, sir?"

"I need you to register these three," Tooka said, pointed behind him. "For three months"

"Understood."

"I'll be heading out" Tooka added, already walking away.

Derrick bowed. "have a great day, sir."

"Same to you." Tooka stepped out with the headphones in his hand.

The door shut. "Thud."

Darrick's smile vanished, "that damn bastard."

He turned back to them, reaching out a hand. "Your identification cards."

"Only one of us has an identification card," Vance said.

A veins engorged on Derrick's forehead.

"Let me guess, he said I'd handle it?" He forced a smile.

"Yes."

"I hate that guy." He walked to a side desk, pulling out a black orb with a usb port.

"You can sit down. This'll take a while" Derrick said as the orb glowed blue connecting with keyboard.

'I never expected this world to have technology' Vance thought as he watched the screen.

'But right now, I should try to find the person who stole my money.' He turned to Jennifer. "Did you see who took the bag?"

"No one took it," She replied quietly.

Vance stared at her. "Then where is it?"

She tapped her foot. Arms crossed. Silent.

'Should I throw her off a ledge?' Vance wandered staring at her.

"Who has the identification card?" Derrick called.

Skritch hopped down and pulled a card from an unfortunate place, his crotch.

Darrick recoiled, "just put it on the table."

He grabbed blue disposable gloves from a drawer. ''Go sit down."

"..yes.. smart goblin.." Skritch muttered ruturning to his seat.

'I can't ask Skritch to get anymore money, there's a chance that the officers will follow him,' Vance sighed. 'Even without the officers, I doubt he has enough money to hire some muscle.'

'It would be risky to depend on Jennifer and Skritch, I need to get more dependable people.' Vance glanced at Skritch, 'I should check out the black market.'

"Next"

'I'll spend the next three months adjusting to this place.' Vance stood up, 'once I've figured it out, I'll hunt down everyone that owes me money.'

"Put your hand on the orb" Derrick said.

Vance placed his hand on the orb, "what does this orb do?"

"It's an orb of truth, it show a person stats." Derrick pointed to the screen.

'I never gave him my name or age,' Vance's eyes narrowed. 'Is this the orbs ability, I wonder how much I cost's. It would be useful'

"Damn, that's high contact limit" Darrick muttered staring at screen.

He slowly turned to Vance. "Are you from the upper continents?"

'Upper continents?' Vance said nothing staring down at him.

Darrick stiffined "I'm sorry, sir I didn't mean to offend you."

He snapped back to work, typing rapidly.

"No, I didn't take offense from that?" Vance said with a gantle smile.

Derrick looked up with a smile. "Truly?"

"Yes," Vance stepped closer. "Perhaps you can show me around after this. And tell me what you know about Threx domain."

Derrick lit up, "of course, sir."

Vance returned to his seat.

"What was the point of lying to him?" Jennifer asked.

"I didn't lie.I simply failed to correct his assumption," he leaned back "And you shouldn't complain, he'll be useful to our survival."

She stood up and walked forward toward the desk.

Vance looked at the screen as she touched the orb.
