Chapter 55 - Trial of the gods, Part 1.

For the Full Moon, Sasha, Brie, Celeste and Leila covered one group, Sora, Jubelle, Levi covered another and Sera, Bishop watched over the two new young ones.

The night was a huge bust. They sat in boredom as no werewolves came.

However, to the surprise of Brie's party, they all found out more than they ever imagined.

"Brie, why do you look so down?" Sasha asked, confused.

"I'm fine, really."

"Ok I've watched you say that like 1,000 times since we've been best friends, what's really going on? It can't be a problem with Sora?" Sasha pried.

"Nope, not at all," Brie began to tear up.

"I think I know the problem," Leila said politely.

"I have a solution, you know. Sora would probably be pretty pissed off but if it's what you want, I can give it to you." Celeste said with a frown.

"Wait, what am I missing?" Sasha said while she gave her best friend a hug.

"I feel like I'm not good enough for him. He's a fucking god. I'm a human. What if I can't have kids with him? At least his dad was an Uthra who became a god. He's going to live forever and I'm… I'm going to die." Brie burst into tears.

"I can always turn you into a vampy," Sasha nudged her with a smile.

"I'll be right back," Celeste said politely.

"I'd bet anything she's asking Athena to set up the trial of the gods for her. I even know the location where that starts," Leila said politely.

Brie's eyes lit up with excitement. "Seriously? Do you think they'd let me attempt it?"

"Let you, yes. Succeeding, that is not something I can guarantee. The last known person was Cyrus. I've been alive for almost 10,000 years, Brie. The only person I know to have attempted and passed it was Cyrus. Countless have been worthy. Countless have tried. Almost no one passes."

"Should I tell Sora?" Brie asked nervously.

"No," the three responded as Celeste teleported back. Alright ladies, this way.

They joined hands in a circle, and they teleported to an ancient ruin with an ancient statue of Athena.

"Well, Brie, if you want to do it. Now's your chance. If you're confident, you'll pass, go for it. It won't be easy. I don't even know how long it will take. Athena might bring Sora to observe. I believe you're allowed help from your loved ones in one trial," Celeste said with a smile.

"Sora, you there?" Brie asked telepathically.

"Sup babe? Are you as bored as we are?" Sora responded with his regular enthusiasm when he heard from her.

"Remember when we shared our souls?" Brie asked, doing her best to hold back her tears

"What's wrong?! Yes of course I do, how could I ever forget? That was the best day of either of my lives! Well, if you don't count the honeymoon. I don't know. Every day with you has been a new best day of my life."

Sora tried teleporting to her but couldn't.

"Brie, what's going on? Talk to me." Sora pleaded.

"I'm taking the trial of the gods. I'll see you soon, I promise. I can't fail. I share a part of your soul now." Brie said as she stepped to the statue and pressed it.

*****

Sora immediately teleported to Celeste, Leila and Sasha.

"What the fuck?!" he demanded.

"Chill, dude. Your wife was in tears about how she wasn't good enough for you." Sasha said while giving him a firm punch on the shoulder.

"Why would she ever feel that way, though?!" Sora exclaimed.

"Try to put yourself in her perspective. She's a human. She's on a clock. You're a god. You'll live forever. Your dad did it for your mom, why wouldn't she do it for you?" Sasha asked politely.

"Maybe because we just got married?" Sora said while shrugging. "I just hate that she feels that way– Uh Celeste, what's happening to me?"

Sora disappeared.

"Looks like it's begun."

Brie stood in front of Athena, calm, cool and collected. She politely bowed and thanked her for the opportunity.

"You thank me now… but what happens when you die and leave Sora crushed?" Athena asked sternly.

"That won't happen. We share a soul. I won't let that happen." Brie said confidently.

"Ok then, go find your husband." Athena stated.

100,000 Soras appeared. Brie didn't move.

"He's not here." she said confidently.

"I assure you he is," Athena said with a kind smile.

"Respectfully, he isn't. I know my husband. I'd be able to pick him out of a million Soras." Brie said with a firm smile.

One million Sora's appeared. Brie didn't hesitate. She ran through the, "hey babes!" and "I love you!" only to find one sitting on a stone. She ran up to him and kissed him with all the love she had in her heart.

Sora's heart filled with joy. "How did you know?"

"I told you. We share a soul. It's the way you look at me when you see me. You lift your chin a certain way and your eyes always light up. No one else's eyes lit up when they saw me.

"Congratulations. Being a goddess requires the strength to tell me when I'm wrong. You have passed your first trial." Athena said.

"As such, you will be instilled with 10% of the power of a goddess."

"Thank you," Brie said politely.

*****

"Oh, don't thank me yet. Sora, you have limitless power in Paradise. Cast the worst imaginable illusion you can on Brie and let's see if she can fight out of it. No holding back," Athena stated sternly.

"Can I have a moment with you, my lady?" Sora asked politely.

"But of course my dear," Athena said.

"I don't know what the worst illusion would be. Would it be her dying of old age? She'd end up in paradise? Not bearing my child? WAIT I KNOW. Dorian was blessed by Selene after he had the strength and belief in the gods after 5 still born children, correct?" Sora whispered.

"A very cruel fate, indeed. I approve. Cast the illusion."

"Brie, I love you. Stay strong." Sora said as he screamed "EYE OF LOCKHEART."

Brie had given birth to a beautiful baby boy. No heartbeat. No pulse. She looked at him with deep sadness and begged Celeste to help. No help could be given.

2 years later and she'd given birth to a beautiful baby girl. The girl lived to be three years old but fell tragically ill. The pain on Brie's face was immense as tears and anger poured from her face.

5 years later and she'd given birth to twins, but something was off. She noticed the twins looked exactly like the first two children.

'This isn't real. THIS ISN'T REAL.' She thought.

"Sora, get the fuck out of my head," Brie said as she slapped him.

"Impressive. How did you notice?" Athena asked.

"The twins. They looked too similar to the first children. Then I thought about Dorian and his past with Camilla and all they went through. Sasha told me so much about it when we were younger," Brie said, wiping the tears away from her eyes.

"Excellent. Part of being a goddess is listening to others and putting faith in your beliefs and trusting your own judgement. You have passed. You now have 30% of the power of a goddess." Athena said politely.

"For your next trial, you have a simple choice. Save Sora's life or save the life of your party," Athena said politely.

Brie was teleported into the middle of war and bloodshed. She watched her party struggle as Dorian and Camilla fell victim to Pride and Wrath.

'This looks so real…' she thought.

She was fighting side by side with Sora. She didn't like the way he was acting. Something was off.

Sora froze time with only Brie in it.

"Don't you fucking trust me?" Sora belted. "I'm trying to save your life and save the life of everyone else. It's an impossible task!"

"Then let me go…" Brie said politely.

"No, I cannot fucking do that," Sora shouted. "You're the one person in this world preventing me from going off the rails. I can't risk it."

"Then I won't make you," Brie said as she stabbed herself through the chest with her katana.

Sora began coughing up blood, but Brie kept stabbing herself. He deactivated the link.

"Why?!" Sora pleaded. 'Why go as far as to kill me?'

"So, I can see you in Paradise again. Brie said, as she took one final katana swing, decapitating Sora."

"Brie?!" What are you doing?! "Sasha yelled."

"He was going to destroy the world. Our sacrifice means you win this battle. Lockheart's peace!" she screamed as she stabbed herself through the heart, one last time.

Every demon, werewolf and titan fell as an angelic white light flew across the battlefield. The party stood, stunned.

VICTORY!!!!!!!! Everyone shouted.

Brie was teleported back to Paradise.

"Now my dear, that was your most impressive feat yet. Now I have some unfortunate news. In order to become a goddess… you must kill a goddess. We have a traitor locked up in the Underworld. You are now 75% goddess. Kill this goddess, and you will be able to become one yourself," Athena said with a smile.

"Does Sora get to help me?" Brie asked as a last-ditch effort.

"He does. You are allowed the help of one god per trial. Smart choice." Athena smiled.
