Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Void

Kane's movement—

Stopped.

At the threshold.

The air—

Shifted.

As the rustic door creaked open.

A faint—

Tug.

Pulling his core.

His body—

Moved.

Forward.

As if it knew where to go.

His gaze—

Focused.

Before him.

Kane began walking through the abandoned lab.

Slowly.

Its halls—

Dark.

Cobwebs—

Appeared.

Trapping dust and debris.

Tree roots—

Lined.

Running across the floor.

Kane stepped over them as he continued to descend.

The pathway split, leading to two different halls.

His body—

Shifted.

Moving down the left.

The crack—

Tensed.

As he stepped next to an open doorway.

Kane's chains—

Rattled.

His amble paused, as he turned his head over to look.

The room was shrouded in complete darkness.

His eyes—

Paused.

As if they knew where to look.

The pupils—

Empty.

Moving their focus inward.

A fragment—

Surfaced.

In his mind.

A light—

Shone.

Too bright.

His body—

Unmoving.

Static figures stood over him.

Metal instruments—

Pricked.

Serrated.

A tube—

Connected.

Locking into his chest.

Pain—

Swelled.

The crack—

Opened.

Closed.

Kane's head—

Turned.

Facing the hallway in front.

His hollow—

Shifted.

As the crack opened further.

Kane continued to drift down the hall, moving through a doorway.

A faint light flickered far in the distance.

His chains—

Rattled.

The crack—

Exposed.

Further.

His walk continued, stopping at another open door.

Kane's body—

Still.

Facing the flickering light ahead.

Blood—

Stained.

Drying onto the metal floor.

His hands—

Twitched.

A second fragment—

Echoed.

The air—

Shifted.

Around his small frame.

His vision—

Blurred.

Her hands—

Laid.

On his shoulders.

The body—

Slumped.

Leaning on him.

Blood—

Dripped.

Off his arms.

She—

Slid.

Off.

Cold.

A faint—

Thud.

Sounded in front of him.

An emotion—

Tried.

To resurface.

The crack—

Tore.

Through the memory.

Closed.

The fragment—

Absent.

Kane advanced to the flickering light, passing through a doorway.

The crack—

Pulsed.

As if it was tuning itself.

His feet glided over dead grass and rusted metal.

A dead stump was in the center.

Kane's body—

Passed.

The broken tree.

His stride—

Halted.

As his head stayed forward.

A third fragment—

Emerged.

The grass—

Gray.

As if its color was drained.

His back—

Pressed.

Against the rough oak.

The tree's shadow—

Covered.

His small body.

Another figure—

Sat.

Close to him.

Her head—

Turned.

A crack—

Manifested.

Covering her expression.

Closed.

The fragment—

Gone.

His chains—

Rattled.

Violently.

The crack—

Overtook.

His entire hollow.

Kane's stride started as he moved through the hallway.

The blue light grew closer with each step.

A bubble—

Formed.

It floated to the surface of the liquid.

The sound—

Disappeared.

Kane continued to move into the light.

A chin—

Lowered.

Looking before him.

Kane's head—

Raised.

Looking into the tank.

Their eyes—

Met.

Kane's movement halted.

A man—

Hung.

Upside down.

His body—

Missing.

The bottom half.

A large chain hooked around the spine.

Tubes—

Pumped.

A dark fluid from his torso.

His pupils—

Matched.

Empty.

The light—

Caught.

His left temple.

A black brand—

Warped.

Around his face.

02.

His shoulder—

Lowered.

Raising his hand to the glass.

Kane's shoulder—

Raised.

Pressing his hand to match.

Their fingers—

Inverted.

The crack—

Resonated.

Pulling something within.

Kane was—

Flooded.

Surrounded with emptiness.

Silent.

Void.

The flow—

Quiet.

Calm.

Kane—

Floated.

Drowning.

Bubbles couldn't rise.

His hand—

Raised.

Dissolving before his eyes.

Kane's body—

Faded.

Darkening in his mind.

The crack—

Open.

Allowing the emptiness to flow in.

Its presence—

Stayed.

Fully open within him.

Kane's hand—

Stayed.

In the same position.

The glass—

Gone.

No longer touching his palm.

The tank—

Vanished.

Like it was never there to begin with.

The man—

Consumed.

Leaving nothing behind.

The crack—

Persisted.

His chains—

Aligned.
