Chapter 2 - PROLOGUE

The ballroom shimmered with gold and ambition.

Crystal chandeliers hung like frozen stars above the city's most powerful figures, each one dressed in designer suits and carefully curated smiles. Deals were being made behind handshakes, alliances sealed over champagne, and reputations quietly destroyed in whispers.

At the center of it all stood Adrian Velasco, the youngest CEO to dominate the country's tech industry. Cold, composed, and dangerously brilliant, he had built his empire from nothing—and trusted no one along the way.

Tonight, he wasn't here to celebrate.

He was here to win.

"Mr. Velasco," a voice interrupted.

Adrian turned slightly, his sharp gaze landing on the woman who dared approach him without hesitation.

She wasn't just beautiful—she was commanding.

Her posture spoke of power, her eyes of intelligence, and her silence of confidence. She wasn't trying to impress anyone in the room.

Which meant she didn't need to.

"Amara Reyes," she introduced, extending her hand.

The name hit him instantly.

CEO of Reyes Holdings. His biggest competitor.

The only person in the room who could match him move for move.

"I was wondering when you'd show up," Adrian replied, shaking her hand briefly. "Wouldn't miss a battlefield."

Amara smiled faintly. "You think this is a battlefield?"

"I think everything is."

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

But something shifted.

Not attraction—not yet.

Recognition.

Two people who had fought too hard, climbed too far, and sacrificed too much… realizing they were finally facing someone who understood.

"Then I suppose," Amara said softly, "we should try not to destroy each other too quickly."

Adrian's lips curved slightly.

"No promises."

Across the room, investors watched.

Executives whispered.

Because everyone could see it.

If these two joined forces—they would be unstoppable.

If they became enemies—

They would destroy everything.
