GA: Chapter 182 – Under Absolute Strength, No Threat Can Exist

She had never gone to bars before. This time she'd come along to keep a friend company.

Her friend's father had half a leg torn off by a mutant creature. If the Bureau hadn't arrived quickly, he might not have survived.

So they'd all gone out together to help take her mind off things.

Wang Mengyu had thought karaoke would be enough—but the others had suggested the bar.

The stage had been lively enough to watch, but she knew she wasn't the type for this kind of place.

She shook her head, stretched lazily, rubbed her neck, and quickened her pace.

Home wasn't far—about a ten-minute walk.

A hot shower when she got back. A deep, comfortable sleep.

Better than anything else.

Wang Mengyu didn't notice—not too far and not too close—a figure following along behind her.

Without her realizing it, the residential complex drew nearer and nearer.

The street had emptied of people. Only lamplight and shadows remained.

Then, in the darkness, a flash of red light—sinuous and wrong.

"Mmh—"

Wang Mengyu turned and met that gaze head-on. Her terrified eyes went mechanical. Blank.

"Anyone home at your place?"

Liu Yongsheng watched his ability take effect and smiled, dragging a finger across Wang Mengyu's soft cheek.

"No."

"Take me there."

He gave a satisfied nod. If someone had been home, he'd have had to change locations—he didn't have enough spiritual qi to fascinate more than one person.

"Yes."

Wang Mengyu said it flatly and led him toward her home.

Once inside, Liu Yongsheng didn't want to wait any longer. He began removing his own clothes—and just as he was about to give Wang Mengyu a command, he paused, studying her blank expression. For a moment the image of the last girl—the one who had struggled—surfaced unbidden in his mind.

A heat stirred in his chest.

What was the point of a doll? He wanted a real person. Someone with emotion.

"I allow your consciousness to return—but you cannot speak. You cannot move unless I permit it."

A moment after his words fell, Wang Mengyu's vacant eyes snapped back to life. Confusion—then she saw Liu Yongsheng standing there without a stitch of clothing, and her mouth opened to scream. Nothing came out.

"It won't work. Unless your spiritual awareness surpasses mine, you can't resist me."

"Right now I won't let you make a sound—but later, you can scream all you want."

"The louder the better."

Liu Yongsheng laughed and stepped slowly closer, reaching to remove Wang Mengyu's clothing.

He wasn't in any hurry anymore. He deliberately slowed himself down—just to savor the despair in Wang Mengyu's eyes.

It gave him a different kind of satisfaction. Deeper than the physical.

Wang Mengyu's eyes were filled with nothing but despair. She didn't understand how this could be happening to her—not killed by a mutant creature, but about to be destroyed by a human being.

Why, even in a time like this, did people like this still exist?

Tears slipped from the corners of her eyes without her willing them. As she looked at Liu Yongsheng, the despair gave way to rage and hatred.

"Those little eyes of yours are something. More interesting than the soft, weak look from before."

"Not bad. Really not bad—hahahaha."

Liu Yongsheng was entirely unbothered by her hatred—if anything it made him laugh.

"It's fine. You'll be enjoying yourself soon enough."

"After all—a nostril is more comfortable than the finger it contains."

"Who knows, maybe you'll get so lost in it you won't be able to stop yourself."

His laughter grew louder at this, his expression more and more animated.

BOOM.

A sudden crash erupted from outside the window. Liu Yongsheng paused, glancing toward it with mild surprise.

Thunder?

"Rain would be perfect! Rain would be amazing!"

"If it starts pouring, that's practically divine timing. Perfect ambiance."

Liu Yongsheng looked positively intoxicated by the idea. Wang Mengyu stared at his expression the way you'd stare at a clinical psychopath.

Absolutely disgusting.

At that moment, a quiet, unhurried voice filled the room.

"Liu Yongsheng—correct?"

In Liu Yongsheng's horror and Wang Mengyu's barely-contained relief, a murky grey presence condensed from the air into a human silhouette—black coat, calm eyes, taking in both of them.

From the bar, she had been watching Liu Yongsheng. She had followed him all the way here, watched him tail Wang Mengyu, and observed when he used his ability.

She'd initially suspected a constitution-type ability—hadn't expected it to be spiritual. Or more likely Beast-type. Something in the line of nightmare or succubus.

Didn't matter. Whatever type it was, he was dying here tonight.

Without hesitation, Liu Yongsheng grabbed Wang Mengyu by the throat with his right hand.

"Don't come any closer!"

"Or I'll kill her right now!"

"You think you have the opportunity to do that?"

Ning Guang said it evenly. A heartbeat later, her body vanished—and in Liu Yongsheng's horrified eyes, both his right hand and Wang Mengyu were simply no longer there.

"When the gap in strength is absolute, threats become meaningless."

"Even if you could crush her throat in under a second—I would stop you before you could."

She had always been confident in her own strength.

Even if her ability had nothing to do with speed specifically, that didn't mean her speed was weak.

First Sequence had no weaknesses.

"AAAH!!!"

Pain flooded Liu Yongsheng's body and he screamed aloud. But with the threat of death pressing down on him, he forced himself through the pain:

"You can't kill me. I wanted to do something to her, but I hadn't started yet."

"And the other women before—they all got into it themselves eventually. In a certain sense it was mutual. And yeah, I killed someone, but it wasn't intentional—at most that's a few years in prison. Right, prison—"

"You can't kill me. You have to follow the law."

As he said it, he grew increasingly agitated. Even if they caught him, he wasn't going to die. Worst case—a few years, maybe a decade or so behind bars.

"And I'm injured right now, so I need hospitalization. I don't even have to go to prison until I've recovered."

He gestured toward his right arm—and failed to notice that Ning Guang's expression had grown increasingly strange, as though she was fighting the urge to laugh.

"The funniest thing I've heard all year—a man who broke the law, standing in front of me and telling me to follow the law."

"Heh."

Ning Guang was smiling. Her tone was absolute zero.

Someone who broke the law while knowing full well what the law said—that was more infuriating than someone who simply hadn't known. At least the latter had an excuse.

"You're not wrong—in the old days, with a decent lawyer, you probably wouldn't die."

"But the times have changed."
