For angels, Pokémon were nothing short of treasures of the world. No angel could resist their pull.
When angel civilization selected Pokémon, beyond their adorable appearances and pure natures, they also considered their formidable potential.
The bond forged with a trainer opened up infinite possibility. An angel paired with a Pokémon might produce something entirely new.
But angel civilization couldn't purchase Pokémon without limit—the point cost was too steep. So they bought a certain number and allowed them to reproduce over time, gradually cultivating an entirely new Pokémon ecosystem.
Under these circumstances, not every angel had the eligibility to choose one—and the rarest, highest-potential Pokémon were even less likely to be available.
The last Gardevoir available for selection had been claimed by Angel Leng.
In the near term, Angel Yan simply had no opportunity.
"Angel Leng? And Gardevoir?"
Bai Xuan's expression became slightly odd. The chuunibyou frost battle goddess and a bashful Gardevoir—it was certainly a peculiar pairing.
"Yes—you probably don't know, do you, White Emperor?"
"Leng is one of our angel corps commanders. A Guard-class angel."
"Not long ago she advanced to Third Generation Divine Body. If Yan becomes the angel queen in the future, Leng should inherit my position and become the Sacred Holy Right Wing."
Yan explained in detail upon hearing Bai Xuan's puzzlement.
"Third Generation Divine Body? Was Angel Leng originally a Second Generation?"
"What's the connection between Super Warriors and Divine Bodies?"
Bai Xuan's understanding of the Brave Soldiers anime was actually not very deep—particularly regarding the relationship between Super Warriors and Divine Bodies.
"Super Warriors are just Super Warriors. They aren't gods—so there's no such thing as a Divine Body for them."
"First through Third Generation Super Warriors all fall under the category of Super Gene Warriors. The abilities they possess are granted by the super gene, and they have an upper limit on lifespan."
"Once a Super Warrior reaches the peak of the Third Generation, they can work toward breaking through to demigod status—then use Divine Body technology to upgrade and become a Divine Body."
"After upgrading to Divine Body, they can essentially be called gods."
"Divine Bodies don't differ in rank—only in generation."
"Second Generation Divine Body, Third Generation, Fourth Generation—it's all just a matter of generation."
Angel Yan answered immediately after hearing Bai Xuan's question.
It was actually quite straightforward. Super Warriors were powerful, but they still fell within the domain of humanity—they had a lifespan ceiling, and even the abilities their genes granted had an upper limit.
But upon upgrading to a Divine Body, combat power didn't necessarily increase—what improved significantly were longevity, self-healing capability, resistance to cosmic radiation, and the ceiling of the gene's potential.
Using computers and phones as an analogy: the warrior was the software, the Divine Body was the hardware—fundamentally different in nature.
Genes determined what abilities you had. The Divine Body determined the ceiling of those abilities.
All gods in the Overman universe existed at the same basic tier. The only factor that determined the gap between them was one thing: generation.
Like comparing early brick phones and the first enormous desktop computers to modern smartphones and laptops—they were all phones, all computers, but were they the same? Not remotely. The differences across every dimension were staggering.
Divine Bodies to other Divine Bodies were exactly like that—and the gap between generations was likely several times more extreme than the difference between an old brick phone and a modern device.
The reason angel civilization commanded such status in the Overman universe, beyond Holy Kesha as the nominal Queen of all Gods, was also the sheer number of their Divine Bodies.
Fourth Generation Divine Bodies: Holy Kesha, Heaven-Based King Hezhi, and Angel Yan—who had been upgraded to Fourth Generation as well, and not only possessed the Sacred Body but also the Space-Time Body.
Three Fourth Generation Divine Bodies. No other civilization in the universe could match that.
Sacred Holy Right Wing Angel Yan and Frost Battle God Angel Leng were Third Generation Divine Bodies. That seemed like a small number—even counting Angel Yan before her upgrade, only three.
But it was worth remembering that at regular intervals, some veteran angel warriors retired and chose a life of their own in some civilization they deemed worthy of justice's embrace.
Among those—might some Third Generation Divine Bodies exist?
Even if not Third Generation, surely there were a fair number of Second Generation among them? If all of them manifested at once, how many civilizations in the universe could withstand it?
To say nothing of the fact that in the broader universe, a Third Generation Divine Body was already sufficient to become the chief god of an entire civilization. Fourth Generation, outside the most elite civilizations—like angel, demon, Styx River, and Blazing Sun—almost no civilization possessed the technology and resources to advance to a Fourth Generation Divine Body.
And Second Generation—setting aside retired veterans, even among active angel warriors there were many. Nearly all high-level Guard angels were Second Generation Divine Bodies.
Angel Lingxi, Angel Azhui, Angel Fanxing, Angel Moyi…
As for the angel civilization's downfall in the anime—the most fundamental cause was Holy Kesha going offline.
Combined with the angels' unwillingness to wage nebula-scale warfare…
Bai Xuan shook his head. What happened in the anime was no longer relevant. In the current Overman universe, angel civilization would not repeat those mistakes.
Holy Kesha would not die. Huaye was already dead.
The Secondary Creature Engine was also receiving intensified research from angel civilization. In the near term, even Death God Karl would find it difficult to crack.
He was genuinely curious—if Death God Karl and Morgan attempted to scheme against Holy Kesha as they had in the anime, only to find the plan had failed, what expression they would wear.
He hadn't moved against Death God Karl before now—partly because Karl was extremely cautious in this regard and would never give angels grounds to accuse him of violating the order of justice, and partly because he possessed an illusory body that current technology couldn't threaten.
But if he dared to move against Holy Kesha and failed—even with an illusory body, the price he'd pay would be severe.
He wouldn't die, true. But the Styx River civilization would have no reason to continue existing.
Much like the Demon civilization—forced to flee endlessly through the cosmos.
Death God Karl was powerful, but what was powerful was his intellect, the Great Clock, and his illusory body—not his civilization. He couldn't be killed, but his civilization could be destroyed.
He might not particularly care about that—but that didn't mean he wanted to sink to Morgan's level.
Being hunted by angel civilization would significantly impair his research into the void, as well as everything else he cared about.
So inevitably, he would choose negotiation. He would pay a price acceptable to angel civilization in exchange for the continued freedom to pursue his research into the void.
