Chapter 1 - The Simple Family

A small family lives in a small house in Florida.

Sam is the breadwinner of the Bachman family.

His small job allows him to provide for his mother,

father, and siblings, Neva and Tons.

Sam had a difficult childhood with his father, who was a

gambling addict and made life hell for his children and

wife.

But Sam resisted his circumstances and held on to his

dream of becoming a doctor.

Difficult circumstances breed resilience. Sam achieved

more than he ever wanted.

After all his struggles, life decided to reward him twice

over.Dr. Sam, a medical scientist, received a job offer from the

CIA, something he never dared to dream of.

But he rejected the offer outright!

Regardless of the reason.

They threatened to fire him, displace him, and so on.

But their threats were to no avail.

He had no choice but to look for a menial job.

He got what he wanted, but it was not what his father

wanted for him.

Sam's life then went from bad to worse.

Sam finished his work as usual, left his office with his cell

phone in his hands and earphones in his ears.

He walked toward the bus stop to the tune of his favorite

song, "Hope."

A few minutes later, the bus arrived, and Sam got on and

stood near the door because it was full.

The music in his headphones was loud, and he didn't

hear a girl near him say hello.

She had to repeat herself twice before he heard her.

"I wanted to ask you for one of your earbuds because I'm

a big fan of this song, 'Hope.'""Sure, no problem."

Sam gave the girl, Lynn Zwan, the earphone, and they

had a short conversation about the song and their love

for it.

When the bus reached Sam's stop, he said goodbye to her

and walked home.

As soon as he arrived, his mother greeted him with her

usual smile, and he said hello to his siblings.

A few minutes later, his mother brought dinner.

They ate together, and the children helped their mother

clear the table.

A few minutes later, their father knocked on the door,

and Sam heard a thud in front of him.

Sam opened the door and found his father lying on the

floor.

"Are you drunk again, Dad? When are you going to stop

this?"

His father's response was the same as always,

reproaching his son for refusing the job offer.

"Until I'm as drunk as I was when you turned down that

offer, you idiot."Sam carried his father inside, and his mother brought

him dinner.

As he ate in silence,

Stones noticed that his sons and wife were looking at

him with pity.

- What are you looking at, you lunatics? By the way, Sam,

I need fifty dollars tomorrow.

- But I gave you your allowance last night. Did you waste

it all in one night?

- Mother: It's unbelievable that you wasted all your son's

money on gambling, Ston.

- (Stones yells) That's because the idiot turned down an

offer that no sane person would turn down...

You're responsible, Sam... You're responsible for the

situation we're in. Look at the food we eat. Look at this

miserable house... It's all because of you.

- (Sam yells back for the first time) No, it's all your fault.

You refused to work, but I'm still working to feed you.

What are you doing in return?

I'm not responsible for your situation. You were much

worse before I was born.- Have you grown up, you coward... Are you yelling at me

now?

- I've had enough of you, Dad.

Sam went up to his room to sleep while his father

continued to shout after him.

Minutes and hours passed to the rhythm of that heated

argument.

The silence of the night was louder to his mother than

the sound of the Stones a few moments earlier.

She went to her bedroom window, tears streaming from

her eyes, and sat gazing at the moon as it moved across

the sky until it disappeared.

Hours passed, and Sam woke up from his sleep. He

quickly got dressed and left the house to go to a nearby

restaurant for breakfast.

After he finished, he headed to the bus stop as usual, and

the Chinese girl, Lin Zuan, was there again.

They had a friendly conversation until the bus arrived.

Sam got on the bus, but the driver was slow, causing Sam

to arrive late for work.

Sam entered his workplace and was greeted by his

manager's shouting. That was enough to make his eyebrows draw close to his

eyes and the skin on his forehead wrinkle, indicating his

nervousness.

Words alone are enough to ruin your moment, maybe

even your day, and maybe even your life.

On the same day, Sam's dad left the house and headed to

the café where he usually spent his days.

He sat there for a few minutes with a newspaper in his

hands, the tea in front of him getting cold.

As the smoke from his cigar stopped dancing in the air, in

an unexpected moment, the newspaper in front of him

crumpled.

His eyes quickly caught the hand that had done the deed,

while his mind took a few seconds to process the four

men standing in front of him.

There was silence for a few seconds before his lips broke

into a smile.

"Ah... hello, Mr. Zwan, I'm surprised to see you here."

He was interrupted by a loud bang on the table that

knocked the teacup to the floor.

"Save your greetings for yourself. Where's my money?""Whoa, whoa, whoa, Mr. Zwan, he spoke to my son about

this and he spoke to his boss and said he would give him

the money today, so tomorrow you will have all your

money.

Mr. Zwan's eyes closed even more than usual as he

contemplated this for a moment.

"All right, I'll see you tomorrow, and if you don't have my

money, I hope I don't see you."

"All right, don't worry, tomorrow you'll have your

money."

The four men got up and left the café amid the stares of

everyone present.

Sam waited impatiently for his departure time.

The bell rang, and he picked up his belongings and

headed for the station. A few steps before he reached it,

he saw the bus and ran to catch up with it.

He reached the bus, but the driver had already closed the

doors and driven off, paying no attention to Sam's

banging on the door.

This only added to the wrinkles on his forehead and

made his face red with anger. It wasn't that he couldn't open the door, but for a

moment he felt a sense of power over someone else.

He didn't miss the opportunity to satisfy that feeling,

which he would never feel in another place or situation.

But of course, satisfying himself in that moment could

come back to haunt others in ways he would never wish

on himself.

In exchange for that feeling, many people missed

appointments and were late, wasting a lot of time at the

bus stop.

time that could change many things, not to mention that

it could even affect the behavior of individuals in the

moments after that situation. By changing a person's

behavior, you may have changed the course of a

conversation or discussion that followed that situation,

and you may have changed that person's life.

Minutes passed before another bus arrived.

Sam got on the bus from the front door, which was

unusual for him, because he had spotted Lynn Zwan in

her usual spot.

He didn't want to see her, so he changed his usual seat on

the bus. After getting on, he kept his head down so she wouldn't

see him.

But she had already seen him and was trying to figure

out why he was acting that way.

The minutes passed in the same manner until the bus

reached its destination.

Sam got off, as did Lynn Zwan, but Sam hurried ahead,

trying to avoid her gaze.

Zwan was surprised by the situation and did not want to

interfere in Sam's affairs, thinking that he was worried

about something and that she should not bother him.

Sam's quick steps to avoid Zuan made him arrive home

earlier than usual. He knocked on the door as usual, and

his mother opened the door as usual. As soon as he

entered, he noticed that his father had returned home

early, which was unusual.

Sam took off his shoes and greeted his brothers and his

father, whose appearance surprised his son.

Sam went into the shared room with his brothers to

change his clothes.

A few minutes later, he heard his mother calling him to

dinner.Sam sat down with his family to eat, and there was a long

silence.

Then his father spoke.

"Tell me, son, how is work?"

Sam was surprised by his father's question, which he had

not expected at all,

and this made him answer a little late.

"It's fine... relatively."

"Good... Can I ask you something?"

"Money?"

"Yes."

Okay, I'll leave some for you tomorrow.

No, I don't mean pocket money.

What then?

I owe some money to some people... I have to pay...

Do you think you're going to borrow money and waste it

on gambling, and I'll have to pay it back for you in the

end?You don't understand the situation. You have to give me

twenty thousand dollars now, or else I'll...

Twenty thousand? Ha ha ha! Even if I wanted to, I don't

have that much.

You do. You're saving up to buy a car.

I spent it.

His father, Yorv, yelled at him and banged his hands on

the table for a few seconds, then stopped and started

crying before getting up to hug him.

I'm sorry, son, I really upset you.

Sam was surprised by the situation.

His father then went up to his room, and we were all

shocked.

Yorv opened the door, and for the first time, he saw the

desolate state of his room.

There were empty bottles of alcohol scattered

everywhere, and his bed was thrown on the floor, its

color closer to black than its original white.

"Has my room been this bad all this time?

I can't remember the last time I came in here sober!"He then lay down on the bed, spreading his arms out and

staring at the walls of the room, the first of which was

completely covered with a large picture of Portuguese

star Cristiano Ronaldo in his Manchester United shirt

(Manchester).

The second wall was yellow, with a group photo of the

Borussia Dortmund team in the Champions League final

in the middle.

The last wall was white with a picture of Zidane in the

royal jersey in the middle.

The front wall formed the entrance, with the rest divided

into two sections: the lower section, which had a small

cabinet and a small TV above it, and the upper section,

which was filled with many small pictures of a group of

soccer stars.

Yor F got up from his reclining position and sat up on the

bed, holding a small bottle of wine in his hands.

He turned on the TV, and the first thing that appeared on

the screen was the sports news channel.

The news that was broadcast came as a shock to all

football fans.

"Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is joining Juventus."Upon hearing the news, Yorv immediately began to cry.

The news he heard was not the reason for his tears.

After hearing the news, he felt nothing at all about his

favorite player's transfer.

All he felt was nostalgia for the days when he used to

interact with every event, even if it was small in the

world of soccer.

That was the real reason behind his tears.

The news wasn't the reason, but it stirred his emotions

and reminded him of his former self, who loved this

sport madly.

His tears continued to flow as his chest felt like it was

about to explode.

Thoughts accumulated in his mind, so he picked up a pen

and placed a piece of paper in front of him. His hands

were unable to move as his brain dictated, and all they

could do was write a few simple lines that did not come

from his conscious mind but from his subconscious.

In the end, all that was on the paper was what the child

Yurf loved. The young man tried to ignore it, but he

couldn't forget it.Yurf lived his life between the bar and his room, between

gambling and drunkenness.

But that wasn't who he really was. He suppressed what

his heart told him, thinking that it would make him a

coward.

But his suppression of his desires was a suppression of

himself, and he was then confused about what to do next

and what desires he would have without his own desires.

All of this made him live a life that was not his own, and

he did not realize it until he felt that he was close to

death.

After finishing his writing, Yorv sat with his head raised,

staring at the ceiling for a few minutes before sleep

overtook him.

This is what steals at least a third of everyone's life. Most

people consider it the only escape from all their

problems and psychological pressures. Contrary to

appearances, it is more restful for the mind than for the

body, but if it takes root in your life, it will ruin it,

because it is a very bad habit, and it should not take up more than a third of your life.
