I left after he fell asleep, but I already planned to text him the moment I got home so he wouldn't think I had run away or changed my mind again.
I put on the black mask I had worn earlier when I came over. It had been daytime then, and I still couldn't risk anyone recognizing me now.
I called for a cab, and within minutes I was back at the estate where my home was. I made sure the driver stopped before reaching the gate. I didn't want anyone seeing me get dropped off by a cab, even something that small would turn into questions.
So I walked the rest of the way.
The estate was as quiet as it always was. The streets were clean, empty, controlled. Hardly anyone walked around outside. Most of us were always locked inside those giant houses, and whenever we went anywhere, it had to be inside a car with someone watching over us every second like we were children who couldn't survive on our own.
When I reached our gate, it opened before I even touched anything.
