Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: The Auditor’s Patch

The "Null-Fog" of Sector Zero didn't just obscure vision; it ate at the broadcast signal. On Kai's obsidian gauntlet, the connection bar flickered between a healthy gold and a dying red.

[Chat: "Connection lost?" / "No, look, the frame rate is dropping!" / "Is he entering a Dead Zone?"]

"Bram mentioned a gate," Kai whispered, his breath hitching as the temperature plummeted. "The 'Backdoor' to the First Floor."

He wasn't walking on solid ground anymore. The floor of Sector Zero began to fragment into floating geometric tiles—grey, untextured cubes that hovered over a literal abyss of static. One wrong step and he wouldn't just die; he would be "Uninstalled."

[Warning: Environmental Instability 84%]

[System Alert: You are entering a 'Non-Euclidean' sector. Logic-based skills may fail.]

"Detecting movement," Kai hissed, his fingers hovering over the gauntlet's screen.

Out of the grey haze, a figure materialized. It wasn't a Peacekeeper. It was a Corrupted Data-Wraith—a monster formed from the deleted files of a thousand failed players. It looked like a humanoid mass of tangled wires and screaming faces, its limbs twitching at 144 frames per second while the rest of the world moved at 60.

[Monster: The Glitch-Stalker]

[Rank: Error (Equivalent to A-Rank)]

[Lore: A collection of 'Lost Hopes' from players who died in the Tutorial.]

The Wraith shrieked, a sound like a corrupted MP3 file, and vanished.

CLANG!

Kai barely raised his gauntlet in time. The Wraith hadn't run; it had "Lag-Teleported" behind him. Its claws, made of sharp code, sparked against the obsidian glass of the Author's Veto.

"Too fast..." Kai gritted his teeth, his feet sliding toward the edge of a floating tile. "I can't track its coordinates!"

[Chat: "HE'S GONNA GET GANKED!" / "F-Rank vs an Error-Rank? RIP Censor."]

[Donation: 'The Mourning Widow' sent 5,000 Truth Points!]

[Message: "Don't track the body. Track the 'Buffer'."]

Kai's eyes widened. The Buffer. He stopped trying to look at the Wraith with his eyes. Instead, he opened the Debug Console on his gauntlet. In the lines of scrolling text, he saw it: a recurring line of code.

LOADING_ASSET: WRAITH_STRIKE... 10%... 40%...

"There you are," Kai breathed.

The Wraith appeared again, its claws aimed at Kai's throat. But Kai didn't dodge. He reached out and 'Grabbed' the air where the Wraith was going to be.

[Skill Activated: Script-Kill]

[Command: PAUSE_ANIMATION]

The Wraith froze mid-air, its jagged claws inches from Kai's jugular. It looked like a paused movie, its body vibrating with trapped kinetic energy.

"You're a collection of 'Lost Hopes'?" Kai looked into the flickering faces of the Wraith. "Then let me give you a final 'Close' command."

[Input: Target_Wraith]

[Command: MERGE_FILES -> USER_STRENGTH]

Kai didn't delete it. He Absorbed it.

The Wraith dissolved into white pixels that swirled into Kai's gauntlet. A surge of cold, raw power flooded his veins.

[Level Up! E-Rank -> D-Rank]

[Mana Capacity increased by 200%]

[New Passive: 'Frame-Step' — You can now perceive movements in 'Lag-Time'.]

"That's better," Kai said, his voice dropping an octave.

The fog ahead suddenly parted, revealing a massive, rusted iron gate held shut by glowing blue chains. The First Floor Gate. Standing in front of it was a single man. He wore no armor, only a simple white suit that looked blindingly clean against the filth of Sector Zero. He held a silver tablet in his hand.

"Kaizer Thorne," the man said, not looking up from his tablet. "I am Logos, a Junior Auditor for the Architect. You are currently in possession of 'Unauthorized Assets'."

"Assets?" Kai raised the gauntlet. "You mean this? Or the truth about Vane?"

Logos finally looked up. His eyes were perfectly circular, glowing with a soft blue light. "Both. The System requires balance, Kaizer. You are a 'Bug' in a 'Feature-Rich' world. I am here to 'Patch' you."

Logos tapped his tablet.

Suddenly, the ground beneath Kai didn't just shake—it Deleted.

Kai plummeted into the abyss, the wind screaming past his ears. But as he fell, he looked into his gauntlet's camera, a wild, dangerous grin on his face.

"Hey, chat! You want to see how an F-Rank survives a fall from infinity?"

He began typing at a speed the human eye couldn't follow.

[Command: DEFINE_PLATFORM_COORDINATE: CURRENT_LOCATION]

[Execution: RENDER_NEW_FLOOR]

A shimmering, purple platform of solid code materialized under Kai's feet mid-fall. He landed with a heavy thud, surviving the "Impossible."

Logos looked down into the abyss, his robotic eyes widening. "You... you're writing your own map?"

"I'm not just writing the map, Auditor," Kai said, his Frame-Step passive kicking in as he leaped back up toward the gate. "I'm rewriting the rules."

[Viewer Count: 100,000]

[System: You have achieved 'Viral' status!]

[The 'First Floor Gate' is vibrating...]

Kai slammed his palm against the gate. "Open. Access Denied? Not for an Editor."

[Command: OVERRIDE_LOCK]

The rusted iron groaned, and the "Backdoor" to the First Floor swung wide. Light—real, blinding sunlight—poured in.

Kai stepped through, leaving the darkness of the slums behind.

"Welcome to the show," he whispered to the world.
