Chapter 83 - Chapter 82: Subnautica Grand Finale!

[These people must be out of their minds. Why would they choose to live eight hundred meters underwater?!]

[Instead of living on land, they go live in the ocean, and eight hundred meters deep at that. Is that even a place humans can live?!]

[You should ask devs about that!]

[They say the land resources are scarce, but it's clearly the devs deliberately designing it this way to trick us players into going to the seafloor! What a devious heart!]

"This is tough to handle." Jenny muttered as well. Despite playing the game for so long, she hadn't even been to waters one hundred meters deep yet!

Suddenly throwing in eight hundred meters, Lucien really outdid himself.

She really didn't want to go!

"Whatever, I'll keep exploring this island first. Since I found land, I might as well enjoy it here for a while!"

Jenny continued wandering around the island. Soon she found another high-tech item on the roof of the house.

"Solar panel. Absorbs and stores solar energy to power any other facilities or charge power batteries. Solar panel blueprint obtained."

"Oh ho, solar power. With this, I won't have to run around collecting acid mushrooms to make batteries anymore!" Just as Jenny was exclaiming, Gaia voice suddenly rang out. "Beep. Received an extraterrestrial broadcast. Would you like to play it?"

"Play it!" Jenny answered immediately.

"Playing."

Then a heavy male voice sounded:

"I am Dennis O. Smith, second officer of the Aurora. Unfortunately, I must inform all current survivors that I was attacked by a Reaper Leviathan on my way to the rendezvous point. I'm afraid I won't be able to reach land."

"You need not grieve for me. There is still one more thing you must do. Once you have successfully gathered and ensured your own survival, you may return to the Aurora. Although the Aurora exploded, some areas remain intact."

"The Aurora is equipped with a super long-range communicator. You can use it to make direct contact in Earth. The U.S will then be able to send rescue."

"That's all. Good luck to everyone!"

Roaaaar

In the background, after a strange roar sounded, the broadcast cut off abruptly.

Jenny had heard that roar before in CaseOh's live stream. It was the sound made by the Reaper Leviathan.

He had encountered the Reaper Leviathan. It looked like this second officer was most likely done for.

After all, NPCs were different from players. Players could reload after dying, but when an NPC died, they were truly gone.

"What do you mean all survivors? After all this, I'm the only one who made it to land. All the other survivors are gone!" Hearing this cruel news, Jenny couldn't help sighing. "And now you want me to go back to the Aurora alone to contact the nation? Isn't that ridiculous!"

[Going back to the Aurora. That reminds me of what happened to CaseOh today!]

[Quick reminder: When CaseOh streamed today, he went to the Aurora and got scared by a Leviathan so badly that his blood pressure spiked!]

[Yeah, I watched CaseOh stream. It was really miserable!]

[The devs is dead set on making players go head-to-head with Leviathans!]

Although the game didn't have clear mission objectives, the plot kept hinting at what the player should do.

From the current situation, Jenny could either go to the Aurora or head to the Dauntless's second shelter to continue following Marianna trail. Of course, she could also just wander around. The game didn't force players to complete any objectives.

"Whatever, I'll ignore these for now and finish searching the island first!!!"

Since none of these tasks had time limits, Jenny ignored the broadcast and spent another twenty-plus minutes thoroughly searching the entire small island inside and out.

Soon she found all kinds of unexpected crafting blueprints.

Including flower pots, industrial lighting, battery chargers, energy converters, and more.

After collecting everything, she had obtained over a dozen blueprints. The only regret was that they were all infrastructure-related. The vehicle or weapon blueprints she wanted most were nowhere to be found.

"Alright, I've pretty much explored the entire island. I think the scenery here is quite nice. I'll build my own shelter here first!"

She had been playing in the ocean the whole time. Now that she had finally found land, even if it was just a small island, she had to settle down here for a while.

Just as Marianna had said, resources here were very scarce. She couldn't find any metal ores. However, she could make use of the house the Dauntless crew had already built.

Soon the 3D printing platform began working. First it dismantled the few houses built by the Dauntless crew and converted them into raw materials, then used those materials to construct brand new houses.

In the next moment, countless micro nano-scale robots flew out. Under Jenny's commands and Gaia's control, a two-story all-metal house was built right before the eyes of hundreds of thousands of viewers!

The entire process took less than five minutes.

[This 3D printer builds everything so quickly!]

[Yeah, and the building process feels so satisfying to watch.]

[Hey, if we had this technology now, housing prices wouldn't have skyrocketed like this.]

Once the two-story building was completed, Jenny walked into her new home and looked around. She then installed windows, turned the first floor into a living room, and added a sofa, dining table, bookshelf (though it had no books), and more.

The second floor had a wardrobe and a bed.

"Wow, this is so comfortable!"

After finishing decorating the house, Jenny lay spread-eagle on the bed and couldn't help sighing.

After playing for so long, she could finally relax a bit.

Not to mention, this bed was really soft. She felt it was even more comfortable than the one in her real-life home!

Should she praise the game's motion feedback for being too good, or praise future humans for their amazing mattresses?

[Being able to build houses, beautiful scenery, and aside from not being able to eat anything, everything else already feels no different from reality.]

[I feel like if this game was played as a social game, it could completely crush every other social game on the market right now.]

[Yeah, imagine a group of players swimming and exploring together. How fun would that be.]

[The devs just doesn't get it. He insists on making players adventure alone to force them to experience loneliness. Honestly, this is one area where he really falls short of other game companies.]

[Are you kidding? If this game was made by EA, the freedom definitely wouldn't be this high! It would be $5 to unlock the Seamoth, $10 to unlock the island, just keep charging money and that's it.]

[That's true. Although the devs loves messing with players, we players still love him. Don't compare him to those other trash games!]

Amid the viewers' sighs, the sky outside began to darken rapidly.

"Huh? It's getting dark again." Jenny looked out through the window. The entire island had gone completely dark.

Hiss hiss hiss!

There were also various insect calls around, giving it the feeling of a summer night in the countryside. The only thing special was that the moon in the sky was way too big!!!

"This is what you call truly admiring the moon." Looking at the enormous moon that occupied nearly a third of the sky, Jenny couldn't help sighing: "But I really don't dare admire this moon for long. The longer I look, the creepier it feels."

The island was beautiful during the day, but at night it became too terrifying, not much better than the ocean.

"Whatever, I'll rest for a bit." Jenny lay back down on the bed, closed her eyes, and took a short nap.

"Beep. You have received an extraterrestrial broadcast. Would you like to play it?" Gaia's voice suddenly rang out, waking the drowsy Jenny.

"Huh? What's going on?" Jenny opened her eyes and sat up from the bed, then realized.

"Wait, did I actually fall asleep?"

[Damn, Jenny, you finally woke up![

[You slept for twenty minutes, you know! We didn't have the heart to wake you!]

[Yeah, hundreds of thousands of viewers watched Jenny sleep!]

[Jenny, are you a pig? You actually fell asleep while playing the game.]

Jenny felt a bit embarrassed and couldn't help rubbing the back of her head. "Don't blame me. This game is too realistic. This bed feels really good to lie on!"

"Whatever, never mind that. Gaia, you said we received another broadcast?" Jenny hadn't expected to receive another broadcast.

Could there be other Aurora survivors?

"Correct. An extraterrestrial broadcast has been received." Gaia answered.

"Extraterrestrial broadcast? What does that mean?" Jenny asked hurriedly.

"A broadcast from outside your planet." Gaia replied.

"Outside the planet?" Jenny was stunned for a moment, then reacted: "Damn, play it quick, play it!!!"

Looks like this wasn't from any survivor.

Soon a middle-aged man's voice came through.

"I am Eric, captain of the Sparkle trade ship. Aurora, we have received your distress signal. Please respond immediately and report your current situation."

The Sparkle trade ship?!

"Damn, another spaceship has arrived!!"

"It seems the Aurora sent out a distress signal before crashing, and it was picked up by another ship!"

"Wow, I really didn't expect the plot to go this way! Rescue arrived so quickly?!"

"There's actually support from another human spaceship!!!!"

Jenny grew excited too. With Gaia's help, she quickly sent a broadcast in reply. "I am a survivor of the Aurora. The Aurora encountered an unknown accident and crashed on the surface of a planet. Requesting rescue!!!"

After sending the broadcast, Jenny stared at her bracelet, waiting nervously.

Five minutes later, the broadcast sounded again.

"This is the Sparkle. It sounds like your situation is very bad, but don't worry, we will definitely lend a hand. How many survivors do you have left? The Sparkle is only a small trade ship and cannot carry too many people. We are not sure if we can rescue all of you. Over."

Jenny quickly replied.

"Sparkle, from what I can tell, I am currently the only survivor left from the Aurora. Over."

Another ten minutes passed:

"This is the Sparkle. We understand your situation. We are currently heading toward the target planet where the Aurora is located. Can you use Gaia to provide us with a land landing coordinate?"

As soon as the voice finished, Gaia spoke up at the right moment. "Beautiful girl, would you like to provide the Sparkle with your current land coordinates?"

"Is that even a question? Provide it, of course provide it!" Jenny shouted immediately.

"Sending… Sent successfully."

A few minutes later, the Sparkle's broadcast sounded again.

"Very good, survivor. We have received the coordinates you sent. Here is some good news: we have entered the orbit of your planet and are rushing over at full speed. We are now sending you our exact arrival time. Looking forward to meeting you."

The broadcast ended there.

"Beep. The Sparkle's exact arrival time has been recorded." Gaia also spoke. Then a countdown appeared on the bracelet.

"1:29:56,"

"1:29:55,"

"1:29:54."

"Wow, they'll arrive in just two hours!!!" Jenny cheered excitedly: "Chat, am I dreaming? Does this mean I might clear the game?!"

[Jenny is awesome! Looks like you're going to be the first one to finish the game!]

[So does that mean the ending of this game is the protagonist successfully being picked up by the Sparkle?]

[I don't know why, but something feels off!]

[Yeah, everyone, wake up. With the developers personality, how could they possibly let you clear the game this easily?!]

[Exactly, I also feel like things won't go this smoothly.]

The viewers began discussing among themselves.

Hearing the viewers' words, Jenny sobered up quite a bit from her excitement. They were right. When had Lucien ever shown such kindness and let players clear the game so quickly?

It didn't sound likely.

But soon another viewers countered.

[It's hard to say. Think about the perfect speedrun ending in Silent Hill that was discovered. That could be cleared in just a few minutes!]

[Exactly. You can never guess what the devs is thinking. Back when Silent Hill came out, everyone thought it was impossible to clear, but once the guide dropped it slapped everyone in the face. The developers even thoughtfully designed a perfect ending with no high-intensity scares that could be cleared in minutes. Wasn't that super considerate?!]

[The devs does love tormenting players, that's true. But more than that, he loves playing with the players' psychology through the game plot, just like the villain boss in Saw. That's his real signature style!]

[Hmm, this Sparkle might be one way to achieve a quick perfect clear in Subnautica.]

The viewers realized they couldn't figure out the devs mind at all. And it wasn't just them. At this moment, Jenny was also at a complete loss. As Lucien's older sister, she couldn't guess even a bit of what her little brother was thinking.

Whatever. If she couldn't figure it out, then she wouldn't think about it.

"No matter what, the Sparkle will arrive in an hour. We'll know the answer soon enough." Jenny said with a sly smile: "Since that's the case, let's save the suspense for tomorrow!"

"That's it for today's stream. Same time tomorrow, come watch whether I can clear Subnautica ahead of everyone!"

[Fuck, you fucking bitch!]

Under the cursing and complaining of the audience, Jenny turned off the live stream.
