Chapter 447 - The Allied Shinobi Forces Retreat

Chapter 447: The Allied Shinobi Forces Retreat

The front lines of the battlefield.

The air hung heavy, choked with the stench of charred flesh and swirling dust. A cold, low shout pierced the chaotic clamor of war. The short blade in Uchiha Shunichi's grip slashed outward, leaving a chilling gleam in its wake.

There were no flashy movements. No wasted energy.

The three Jonin from Kusagakure standing in his path suddenly clutched their throats. Hot blood spurted from between their desperate fingers, the light of life draining rapidly from their wide eyes as they collapsed into the dirt.

"Stop him! Quick, stop him!"

The Kusagakure commander roared, his voice cracking with raw terror. He had fought in many skirmishes, but he had never faced an enemy this suffocatingly lethal.

His desperate orders earned him only one response. A pair of glowing, scarlet Sharingan piercing through the smoke.

Uchiha Shunichi's figure blurred, leaving nothing but a fading afterimage where he had just stood. The Body Flicker Technique.

The very next second, the commander felt his entire field of vision spin wildly out of control. The world tilted upside down. As his perspective hit the earth, he saw his own headless corpse standing a few feet away, a geyser of blood erupting from the stump of its neck before the body slowly crumpled to the ground.

"The captain is dead!"

"Monster... It's the Uchiha monster!"

The Kusagakure defensive line instantly shattered, panic spreading like a plague.

Behind Shunichi, dozens of elite Uchiha warriors descended upon the broken ranks like starving tigers unleashed into a flock of sheep. They moved with lethal precision, their Three-Tomoe Sharingan spinning wildly as they tracked every twitch, every desperately woven hand seal, and every fatal weakness of the enemy forces.

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"

Over a dozen massive spheres of roaring flame blasted outward simultaneously. The intense heat scorched the earth black, completely incinerating the remaining Kusagakure formations and engulfing the Kumogakure shinobi who had tried to reinforce them.

At that exact moment, on another sector of the blood-soaked plains.

A massive rock golem crumbled into a mountain of debris, shattered by a single, devastating horizontal slash from the giant toad, Gamabunta.

Ōnoki floated high in the mid-air, the deadly, translucent cube of his Dust Release flickering dangerously between his glowing palms. His heavily wrinkled face was set in grim solemnity.

"Hoo... hoo..."

The Third Tsuchikage gasped for breath. A sharp, throbbing soreness radiated from his lower back, forcing him to divert precious reserves of his chakra just to maintain his flight and keep the pain at bay.

Across the ruined landscape, Jiraiya stood tall atop Gamabunta's massive head. The Sannin's long white hair whipped wildly in the harsh wind. The red markings of Sage Mode framed his sharp eyes. Perched securely on his shoulders, the two elder toads, Fukasaku and Shima, croaked loudly, gathering natural energy from the chaotic atmosphere.

"Old man, are you really going to keep fighting?" Jiraiya crossed his arms, his gaze locking onto the floating Kage.

"Look down there. Your Allied Forces have already broken."

Ōnoki ground his teeth together, the muscles in his jaw ticking as his gaze swept over the battlefield below.

The left flank of the Allied Shinobi Forces, which had originally boasted a massive numerical advantage, was now entirely overrun. The Uchiha Clan had torn it to shreds. That assault squad, led by the ruthless Uchiha Shunichi, had acted as a heated blade plunging directly into the heart of the alliance.

'Damn Uchiha...' Ōnoki cursed bitterly in his mind.

Uchiha Akira had not even stepped onto this battlefield yet. Just his subordinate clan members were already this terrifyingly efficient. If they continued to drag this war of attrition out, Iwagakure's main military force would suffer catastrophic losses. If his village bled out here, how could they possibly maintain their political and military footing in the Ninja World once the dust settled?

Ōnoki drew in a long, ragged breath. He made his decision.

This battle could not continue. At least, not today.

"Pass down the order!" Ōnoki's voice boomed across the chaotic plains. "Iwagakure forces, retreat with covering fire!"

On the far side of the battlefield.

Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle!

Violent, crackling Lightning Release chakra surged upward, forming a dense blue armor that encased the massive, heavily muscled physique of the Fourth Raikage, Ay.

"Liger Bomb!"

Ay roared, the sound like rolling thunder. He transformed into a blinding blue flash of lightning, slamming his entire body weight forward with devastating momentum.

A massive, ethereal purple skeletal arm manifested out of thin air, slamming down like a shield to firmly block the devastating strike.

Uchiha Fugaku stood perfectly still within the glowing ribs of his Susanoo. His arms were crossed over his chest, his expression entirely devoid of warmth. Within his eye sockets, the complex, cursed patterns of his Mangekyo Sharingan rotated slowly, tracking the Raikage's every micro-movement.

"Raikage." Fugaku's voice was calm, cutting through the roar of the lightning. "Your speed may be fast, but before my eyes, it is meaningless."

"Stop boasting so brazenly!"

Thick veins bulged violently across Ay's forehead. His massive hand drew in an even more terrifying concentration of volatile lightning chakra.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

A frantic, blurring barrage of hand chops hacked mercilessly against the Susanoo's absolute defense, sending violent shockwaves rippling across the cratered earth.

Just then, a Kumogakure Anbu operative sprinted through the debris, his uniform torn and his breathing ragged.

"Raikage-sama!" The Anbu screamed over the din of battle. "This is bad! Iwagakure... Iwagakure has retreated!"

"What?!" Ay sharply snapped his head to the side. "That undead geezer Ōnoki! What the hell is he doing?"

The Anbu swallowed hard, his voice trembling under the Raikage's suffocating killing intent. "The Tsuchikage said... the Uchiha's offensive was too fierce. The left flank has completely collapsed. To preserve his military strength, he suggested a full army retreat..."

"Bastard!"

Ay was so consumed by rage that he stomped his heavy boot directly into the earth. The ground instantly spider-webbed, a massive crater caving in beneath his sheer physical force.

"That coward!"

Despite his boiling fury, the Raikage forced himself to look out over the wider battlefield. With Iwagakure pulling their forces back, Kumogakure could not hold the line alone. Worse, Uchiha Shunichi's blood-soaked elite unit had already pivoted and begun to flank their position. If the Kumo shinobi did not pull out immediately, they would be completely encircled and slaughtered by Konoha's advancing lines.

"Uchiha Fugaku!" Ay glared with unmasked hatred at the stoic man standing safely within the purple skeletal construct. "I will remember this debt!"

Ay turned his back. "All forces! Retreat!"

Following the Raikage's bellowing command, the Kumogakure ninja felt as though they had just been pulled from the jaws of death. They immediately abandoned their engagements, throwing smoke bombs and sprinting frantically toward the rear lines.

Uchiha Fugaku watched the Raikage's retreating figure shrink into the distance. He did not raise his hand to order a pursuit.

The purple ribs of chakra dissolved into the wind. Fugaku immediately brought a hand to his face, his fingers pressing against his closed eyelids as a sharp, stinging pain flared behind them.

"Do not pursue cornered foes," Fugaku murmured to his approaching subordinates. "We also need to rest."

A heavy thud sounded as Jiraiya landed gracefully beside the Uchiha Clan Head.

"Fugaku. Well done." Jiraiya glanced over the ruined, corpse-littered ground and let out a long, exhausted breath. He turned to a nearby communications ninja. "Pass down the order. Clear the battlefield, recover our dead, and have all forces retreat back to the camp."

Night fell heavily over the borders of the Land of Fire.

Inside the Konoha forward operating camp, the lights burned bright against the darkness. The medical tents were overflowing. The air was thick with the metallic scent of blood, the sharp tang of medicinal alcohol, and the low, continuous groans of wounded shinobi.

This was the reality of war. Even a decisive victory demanded a painful, bloody price.

Jiraiya sat heavily in the main command tent. The flickering candlelight cast deep shadows over his furrowed brow as he read over the grim casualty reports stacked on his desk.

"Although we successfully repelled the Allied Forces, our casualties and overall chakra consumption were severe," Jiraiya muttered, rubbing his temples. "If they regroup and push again tomorrow..."

The heavy canvas flap of the tent was suddenly thrown open.

A Konoha sensor ninja rushed inside, his face flushed with unhidden joy.

"Jiraiya-sama! Fugaku-sama!" The ninja saluted hastily. "Reinforcements! The village's reinforcements have finally arrived!"

On the fortified outskirts of the Konoha camp.

The Hyuga clan members stationed in the high watchtowers suddenly widened their eyes, the veins bulging sharply around their temples as they pushed their Byakugan to the limit.

"They are here!" one of the guards shouted down to the gates. "What incredible speed!"

The massive wooden gates of the camp groaned as they were slowly hauled open. Jiraiya and Uchiha Fugaku had already walked out to the front lines to receive them.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two figures blurred past the gates, landing lightly on the dirt path ahead of the main column.

It was Uzumaki Naruto and Gaara.

"Long time no see, Pervy Sage!" Naruto looked up at the towering Sannin, flashing his signature, blindingly bright grin.

Jiraiya froze for a fraction of a second, his eyes widening slightly. "Naruto..."

A warm smile broke through the exhaustion on Jiraiya's face. He stepped forward and clapped a heavy hand onto his student's shoulder. "Hokage-sama actually sent you brats as reinforcements. Just looking at your chakra, it seems your strength has improved quite a bit, kid."

Naruto chuckled, scratching the back of his spiky blonde head. "Hehe, of course it has!"

Standing a half-step behind him, Gaara offered a perfectly measured, respectful bow.

"Jiraiya-sama," the red-haired youth spoke, his tone calm and grounded. "Gaara, from the Konoha Sunagakure Branch, reporting for duty."

"With you two heavy hitters here, we are guaranteed to win this war!" Jiraiya laughed, waving his hand grandly to welcome them in.

At that moment, the heavy, synchronized sound of marching boots echoed through the night. The large main force from the rear had finally caught up. Thousands of fresh, fully equipped Konoha troops marched majestically through the open gates, their presence instantly lifting the heavy morale of the wounded camp.

Among the endless sea of shinobi, one particular group drew every eye.

They wore high-collared dark clothing, moving with an arrogant, predatory grace. Stitched proudly onto their backs was the iconic red and white fan crest of the Uchiha Clan. This was the elite reinforcement unit dispatched directly from the clan compound.

And walking at the absolute front of that squad, leading them with a cold, untouchable aura, was a black-haired youth.

Uchiha Sasuke.

"That is..." Uchiha Fugaku stood entirely still in the distance. His dark eyes instantly locked onto the approaching youth. A complex emotion flickered briefly in the depths of his gaze.

'Sasuke?'

Fugaku did not immediately step forward to greet him. As the Clan Head and a frontline commander, distinguishing strictly between public duty and private family matters was an ironclad rule of the battlefield. Showing favoritism here would only undermine his son's standing.

Sasuke, however, seemed to sense that heavy, familiar gaze immediately. He snapped his head to the side.

Father and son met each other's eyes across the crowded, torch-lit camp.

Sasuke's jaw tightened. He slowly clenched his hands into fists at his sides, took a deep, steadying breath, and broke away from his squad, striding directly toward the Clan Head.

He stopped exactly three meters in front of Fugaku, his posture rigid.

"Father."

Fugaku's brow furrowed slightly. When he spoke, his voice was low, stern, and entirely authoritative.

"This is a battlefield." Fugaku stared down at him. "Not home."

"I know."

Sasuke lifted his chin, refusing to look away, meeting Uchiha Fugaku's intense gaze with a burning fire of his own.

"I am here to fight as a member of the Uchiha."
