Chapter 235 - Reverberations Across the Nations

Chapter 235: Reverberations Across the Nations

Almost at the exact same moment that Sunagakure's emergency council was descending into panicked chaos...

In the Land of Lightning, Kumogakure (The Village Hidden in the Clouds).

Raikage's Office.

BOOM!!!

With a sound like a thunderclap, the massive, sturdy desk carved from dark mountain oak was violently smashed into two jagged pieces! Splinters flew everywhere. The culprit: a single, iron-hard fist wreathed in crackling, intense blue lightning.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The Fourth Raikage, Ay, threw his head back and let out a deafening, almost manic roar of laughter that shook the very foundations of the Raikage Tower.

[Inorin's Note: Ay is the Fourth Raikage of Kumogakure, known for his immense speed using Lightning Release Chakra Mode and his aggressive, militaristic leadership style.]

"GOOD! GOOD! EXCELLENT! What a magnificent bastard, this Uchiha Akira!"

Ay slammed his lightning-charged fist down again, obliterating one half of the desk into sawdust.

"This old man thought all the ninja of Konoha these days were just a bunch of soft-bellied, peace-loving weaklings who only knew how to talk big! Hah! I didn't expect such a bold, reckless fellow to finally emerge from that rotten Leaf!"

Beside him, his long-suffering secretary, Mabui, calmly pushed up her glasses, sighing internally.

"Raikage-sama," she stated, her voice perfectly level despite the chaos, "you've smashed another desk... That is already the third one this month. Perhaps we should consider ordering them in bulk?"

[Inorin's Note: Mabui is the Fourth Raikage's highly efficient and composed secretary.]

Ay completely ignored Mabui's practical complaint. He snatched up the damp, slightly singed intelligence scroll that had arrived just moments before via emergency summons hawk. He began pacing back and forth in the office excitedly, like a caged tiger finally let loose.

"Konoha invades the Land of Wind!" he boomed, reading the key line again, savoring it. "Full-scale invasion! They wiped out Suna's border overnight!"

He stopped pacing, a wide, predatory grin splitting his face. "This... This is a godsend opportunity! A gift from the heavens themselves, delivered directly to our Hidden Cloud Village!"

Ay crushed the scroll in his fist. "That arrogant Uchiha brat! He's strong, yes, but he's overreached! He thinks he can just attack another Great Village without consequences?"

Ay suddenly stopped, his grin vanishing, replaced by a look of intense focus. His eyes, usually just stern, now practically glowed bloodshot, filled with a raw, bloodthirsty battle intent.

"Immediately!" he roared at Mabui. "Convene the highest-level emergency council meeting! NOW!"

"Summon all the village elders! All active Jōnin commanders! Tell them to get their asses to this old man, right now!"

"QUICK!"

Mabui, unflappable as ever, simply nodded. "Yes, Raikage-sama. At once."

A few minutes later.

The Kumogakure Council Meeting Room.

The room was packed, filled wall-to-wall with the village's high-ranking officials – stern-faced elders, hardened Jōnin veterans, Kumo's elite shinobi.

The atmosphere was oppressive and tense. An emergency summons like this, outside of wartime, was almost unheard of. Everyone knew something major had happened.

CRASH!

Ay kicked the heavy meeting room door clean off its hinges. He strode in, radiating an overwhelming aura of power and barely contained excitement. He slammed the crumpled intelligence report down onto the center of the massive conference table.

"That's the situation!" Ay declared, his voice booming, needing no preamble. "Konoha has launched a full-scale invasion of the Land of Wind! Their main forces, led by the Fifth Hokage himself, are currently deep in enemy territory!"

He leaned over the table, his gaze sweeping across the stunned faces. "Now... the entire Land of Fire... their rich, fertile homeland... is sitting there like a naked, defenseless beauty! Lying ripe and ready, waiting for us!"

Ay slammed his fist on the table, making everyone jump. "I've decided!"

"Effective immediately, the Hidden Cloud Village enters a state of full-scale war!"

Gasps and murmurs filled the room.

"Assemble all our available ninja forces! Every last shinobi! Launch a lightning war against the Land of Fire! We strike with the fastest speed, the strongest power, and absolute ruthlessness!"

His eyes gleamed. "Before Konoha can even react, before they can pull their forces back from the desert... We will tear open their eastern defenses! We will occupy their land! Plunder their resources! Take everything!"

Ay's voice rose to a fever pitch. "What we couldn't take in the Third Ninja World War! What they denied us! This time... this time, this old man will take it all back, with interest! Every single damn bit of it!"

As his voice fell, the meeting room erupted into an uproar. Shock, excitement, and fear mingled in a chaotic wave.

The oldest elder, his face deeply wrinkled, trembling slightly, stood up hesitantly. "Raikage-sama... please... please reconsider! This is madness!"

"The intelligence reports state that the Fifth Hokage, Uchiha Akira... his strength is unfathomable. Some say he possesses power rivaling the First Hokage..."

"Moreover," the elder pleaded, "Konoha is, after all, the largest Ninja Village! Their foundations run deep! Even with their main force away, if we rashly start a war... I'm afraid..."

"Afraid of WHAT?!" Ay whirled around, glaring fiercely at the elder. His violent, suffocating chakra aura instantly flared, pressing down on the old man, making him gasp for breath.

"Unfathomable? How unfathomable can he be?!" Ay scoffed, flexing his lightning-wreathed fist. "Can he block this punch of mine from halfway across the continent? I think not!"

"Deep foundations? Hah! Their main forces, their Hokage, are all stuck hundreds of miles away in the damn desert! By the time they even hear about our attack, by the time they can possibly rush back... the Land of Fire will already be covered in our Kumogakure flags!"

Ay slammed his fist down again. "War doesn't rely on hesitation and fear! It relies on speed! Strength! And opportunity! And the gods themselves have handed us this opportunity!"

His gaze swept across the now-silent room, daring anyone else to object. "Whoever dares to speak of retreat again... whoever shows a shred of cowardice... is a traitor to our Hidden Cloud Village! And this old man will personally twist his head off first!"

Under Ay's unquestionable, autocratic will, under the sheer force of his personality and power, no one dared to raise any further objections. The decision was made.

A palpable energy filled the room. Fear was replaced by a grim excitement.

Countless Kumogakure ninja began to assemble in the village plazas, mobilization orders spreading like wildfire. Their faces were etched not with fear, but with fierce excitement and bloodthirsty smiles.

They had craved this. For years, they had felt stifled, held back. Now, the leash was off.

They had craved war for too long!

Ay stood on a high platform overlooking the rapidly assembling army below, thousands strong. He raised his fist high into the air, his voice amplified by chakra, roaring out over the sea of determined faces.

"TARGET!"

"THE LAND OF FIRE! THE HIDDEN LEAF VILLAGE!"

"DEPART! FOR THE GLORY OF KUMO!"

"OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH—!!" A thunderous roar answered him, shaking the very mountains around the Hidden Cloud.

On the other side of the continent...

Amegakure (The Village Hidden in the Rain).

At the very pinnacle of a towering, cold, impossibly high iron tower that pierced the perpetually weeping sky.

The Deva Path Pain, lean and imposing with his Rinnegan eyes and Akatsuki cloak, sat in the main, throne-like seat.

[Inorin's Note: Amegakure is the hidden village of the Land of Rain. Pain is the recognized leader of Akatsuki, possessing the Rinnegan. The Six Paths of Pain are six bodies controlled remotely by Nagato, each possessing a different Rinnegan ability.]

Before him, shimmering like heat haze, nine illusory figures appeared out of thin air, taking their designated places in the darkened chamber.

The Akatsuki Organization, fully assembled in astral projection.

"Konoha," Pain's voice was flat, devoid of any discernible emotion, "has declared war on Sunagakure."

He paused, letting the statement hang in the air. "War... has begun."

Inside the ethereal cave projection, the atmosphere instantly became subtle, charged with unspoken thoughts.

"Heh heh heh... War? Finally! What a beautiful symphony of destruction! Hm!" Deidara, the blonde bomber, practically vibrated with excitement.

"I really want that arrogant Uchiha brat named Akira to properly appreciate my ultimate art! A taste of true beauty! Yeah!"

[Inorin's Note: Deidara is an S-rank missing-nin from Iwagakure, obsessed with explosions as an art form.]

"Shut up, Deidara. Your fleeting 'art' is vulgar." A voice like muffled thunder sounded from a figure squatting low in the corner, completely enveloped within the grotesque, scorpion-like puppet known as "Hiruko." It was Sasori of the Red Sand.

[Inorin's Note: Sasori, also known as Sasori of the Red Sand (Akasuna no Sasori), is an S-rank missing-nin puppet master from Sunagakure.]

"True art," Sasori continued, his voice distorted by the puppet, "is eternal. Unchanging. Perfect."

"What did you say?! Uncle Sasori, you damn puppet freak!" Deidara flared up instantly. "Eternity is ugly! Lifeless! The true essence of art is that fleeting, beautiful, instantaneous bloom! An explosion! Hm!"

"Enough. Both of you. Quiet." Pain's icy voice brought all arguments to an immediate, resentful halt.

Kakuzu, who had remained silent, leaning against the cave wall, finally spoke, his voice a low, gravelly rumble.

"War..." he scoffed. "Utterly boring. And unprofitable."

"A bunch of fools fighting and dying for their so-called villages and countries. And in the end, what do they get? Nothing. Just graves and debts."

He shifted, the bells on his cloak jingling faintly. "With the time wasted on this pointless conflict, I'd rather be out hunting down a few more high-bounty rogue ninja. Far more productive."

Pain's Rinnegan gaze swept over his assembled members, assessing their reactions.

This sudden war... it disrupted his carefully laid plans. His timeline for capturing the Tailed Beasts.

The major Ninja Villages entering a full state of war meant increased security, heightened vigilance across the continent. Akatsuki's clandestine actions would become significantly more restricted, more dangerous.

But at the same time... chaos was also an opportunity.

"Sasori. Deidara." Pain commanded.

"You two... proceed to the Land of Wind."

Deidara perked up. Sasori remained still.

"Your mission: Observe. Gather intelligence. I want to know everything about this Fifth Hokage, Uchiha Akira—his true strength, his specific ninjutsu capabilities, his personality, his weaknesses... Bring back all verifiable intelligence to me."

"Also..." Pain's voice paused, considering.

"If the timing is right... if the opportunity presents itself amidst the chaos of battle... you may attempt to capture the One-Tail Jinchūriki of the Hidden Sand Village."

"Understood," Sasori replied concisely, his puppet nodding almost imperceptibly.

"Fantastic! Finally, some real action! Time to show the world true art! Hm!" Deidara clapped his gloved hands together excitedly.

As Pain's orders were issued, the illusory figures flickered one after another, their connections severed, disappearing from the ethereal chamber...

Land of Wind, Konoha Temporary Forward Fortress (Kikyō Pass Valley).

The thunderous roar of the departing army had faded hours ago. The mighty force of two thousand Konoha elite had vanished over the horizon, marching towards Sunagakure under the command of Uchiha Kenji and the other field leaders.

The once bustling Wood Release fortress, constructed almost instantaneously by Akira, was now eerily empty and quiet. Only a skeleton crew remained, managing supplies and communications.

Uchiha Akira and Tsunade stood side by side on the highest lookout tower built into the fortress wall, overlooking the now-desolate valley and the vast, empty desert beyond.

The setting sun painted the sky in shades of orange, purple, and blood red.

"Akira!" Tsunade finally couldn't hold back her frustration any longer. She turned around, her beautiful eyebrows furrowed deeply, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

"Why?! Why didn't you go with the main army?"

"You're the Commander-in-Chief! You sent two thousand ninja ahead into enemy territory, but you stayed behind here... doing what?! Sightseeing?!"

Her voice rose, incredulous. "The commander-in-chief of the front line just... skips out on the march? Skips the opening stages of the battle? What kind of insane behavior is this!"

The more she thought about it, the angrier Tsunade became. She reached out and gripped Akira's arm tightly, her fingers digging in with considerable, chakra-enhanced force.

"Are you crazy?! What if something unexpected happens out there?! What if Kenji encounters a trap? What if Suna mounts a stronger defense than anticipated?!"

"Don't worry," Akira replied calmly, letting Tsunade twist his arm, his expression completely unchanged by her grip or her outburst.

"The kunai I left with Kenji is marked with a specialized space-time seal linked directly to my Amenominaka. As long as anything significant happens there, anything requiring my intervention, I can arrive on the battlefield... instantly."

He gently removed her hand from his arm. "Let Kenji and the others handle the tedious logistics of travel and initial deployment. We just need to focus on the decisive fighting once the true battle begins."

Uchiha Akira turned his head, a faint, teasing smile playing on his lips as he looked at Tsunade's still-pouting, worried face.

"Besides," he added, his voice dropping slightly, becoming more intimate, "some things... aren't suitable for doing in public, surrounded by two thousand soldiers."

Tsunade was stunned for a moment, not yet understanding what Akira meant by that sudden shift in tone.

The next second, before she could process it, Akira's tall figure stepped forward, closing the small distance between them. He backed her up, directly pinning her gently but firmly against the rough wooden wall of the lookout tower behind her.

"You..." she gasped, surprised by his sudden proximity, his familiar scent filling her senses.

She had barely uttered the single word.

Uchiha Akira's face rapidly enlarged before her eyes as he leaned down.

Mmmph!

The rest of her words, her protests, her questions, were all effectively blocked by a sudden, domineering, possessive kiss.

Tsunade's mind instantly went blank. Her attempts to push him away became weak, token gestures.

Gradually, inevitably, her body, which had been tense with worry and residual anger, became uncontrollably soft, pliant. She could only rely on the sturdy wall behind her and the strong man in front of her to remain standing steady.

After a long, breathless while, their lips finally parted.

Tsunade's cheeks were flushed a deep crimson. Her breathing was ragged, unsteady. Her beautiful brown eyes were clouded with a hazy mist, tinged with a confusing mixture of embarrassment, lingering anger, and undeniable arousal.

She glared fiercely up at the man standing over her, but found, much to her frustration, that her glare held no real intimidation whatsoever. Instead, it probably looked more like she was pouting playfully.

"Bastard..." she breathed out, her voice husky.

"There's still a war heating up on the front lines... and you only have these kinds of things on your mind?"

"Even during war," Akira murmured, his forehead resting against hers, "there should be a proper balance between work... and rest."

His hand, which had been resting on her shoulder, slowly, deliberately slid down the perfect curve of her back, finally coming to rest possessively on her firm, perky buttocks.

Through the fabric of her Jōnin pants, he unceremoniously gave it a firm, appreciative squeeze.

The astonishing elasticity and feel made Akira's own heart flutter slightly. Perfection.

"Hiss!"

Tsunade gasped sharply at the unexpected intimacy, her body trembling involuntarily. Her legs went weak, buckling slightly. She almost lost her footing entirely, only able to lean limply, helplessly, into Akira's strong embrace for support.

"You... you let go!" Tsunade felt her voice trembling, lacking any real conviction.

"Hokage-sama!" she tried again, attempting to inject some authority into her tone. "Please be mindful of your status! We are in a war zone!"

"We're not in the command center right now," Akira whispered, his lips brushing against Tsunade's ear. His warm breath caressed her sensitive earlobe, sending another uncontrollable shiver through her entire body. "Out here... I'm not the Hokage. And you're not Lady Tsunade."

"We're just... Akira and Tsunade."
