Chapter 1 - To The 1970s

Who would have thought that by taking a fall while climbing a tree, I would end up dead. Not slightly injured or knock out. My head landed badly on a randomly placed rock and off I went.

At first all I saw was a slowly dimming light, as though the days sunshine was being overridden by an eclipse, but no, that was just the vision in my eyes before everything became black.

For a long time I just hovered, stuck in place, not knowing if I'm supposed to move, or even if I could, as I was just in that much of a shock. Of all ways I could have gone, car crash, flight gone wrong, eaten by a shark, anything. But no, I died due to a silly rock.

Anyways thats besides the point now, not something to think about further.

'Where exactly am I? Is this the endless eternity of darkness a few people had predicted? Seems a bit dull after having the creation of the entire universe and death leads just to darkness, but okay.'

These thoughts lingered for I don't know how long. Based on my assumptions it should've only been a few minutes, however I get the sense that my reference of time if very much off, like that feeling when you've had a week of work and only now realize you're back to Friday getting ready for the weekend.

Slowly, to my perceived right, I began to see a shade of purple becoming larger, as it came closer, so too did other colours. As shades of greens, blues and others began to take over, I felt overwhelmed, as though seeing light for the very first time. Then everything stopped. At first it became black again but then I had a thought.

I can open my eyes again. And so in the year 1970, Aiden Kent opened his eyes once again, now to a completely different world than he remembered. In his surroundings he found himself in what appeared to be a living room area. A nice comfortable couch to his left whilst he lay on the floor, completely bewildered. With a shock he sat up, giving a quick scan of his surroundings.

Though not exactly glamorous, the house he stood in looked very well maintained, filled with shelves of books, lovely furniture, wall paint in floral designs. He looked towards the kitchen just through the door in a corner of the room, and he saw a rustic area, with wooden tables and counters, though nothing seemed out of place, perfectly placed in various spots to suit the area.

From the kitchen he heard a faint humming, as though to a lullaby tune. Perhaps hearing his rustling, a faint caring voice hovered over to him. "Aiden dear, I hear you're back up and about. I hope that means you're finally ready to go help your dad with the lawn. You know he's hoping to spend more time with you."

With that, a fairly tall women, with a bundle of sandy blonde hair appeared at the doorway, giving a somewhat reproachful but still caring look. She was a bit of a beauty, looking to be in her late 20s, at most early 30s. With a lively flowing baby blue sundress and comfortable fluffy socks on. She looked perfectly at ease right at home.

With her sudden appearance Aiden gained a whole bundle of memories, recalling her name to be Margaret, his mother in this life.

He stood in shock for while, for him it was due to his realisation of many things, while to her, it looked like he was stunned to see her. A pleased smile appeared on her face, believing Aiden was struck by her wonderful getup, which would be true in any other circumstance.

"Are you going to stand there all day? Or do you have something to say?" she asked in a gentle tone.

Taking a second to collect his thoughts, he, as quickly as possible replied,"I didn't know an angel would grace me with her presence, I seek your forgiveness for my manners." To which Margaret giggled a bit.

"Alright you little charmer, stop fooling about and go help your dad, I'm sure he'd love to see you outside, besides its sunny outside for the first time in ages, you should take full advantage." With that she swayed towards the front door and then outside, with a bit of a hop in her steps clearly pleased.

Following her outside I came to witness the extent of the challenge ahead. In the bright outside area in the front yard, there was a fairly large garden area, likely about 30-35 square metres of coverage, all to be mowed by a devise moving at practically a snails pace by comparison.

Using the mower was a fairly well built man, not bulky by any means, but you would believe he goes to the gym frequently. With a mix of light and dark brown curles on his head, and a well maintained beard, you'd make a wise bet if you said he was a looker.

With a bright smile he looked towards me, giving a slight shout,"Aiden, over here, would you mind helping me with the rope and raking the excess cut grass? I know its a drag, but come on its a nice time to be outside, no?"
