Chapter 1 - Waking in White and Blue

Cold....

That was the first thought to come into her mind. Why was she cold, or did it feel more like she was bathing in ice. Her fingers twitched, a solid metal surface beneath her skin.

Metal...

A surge of fear and adrenaline burst through her chest. Violet purple eyes flashed open to the burning bright light around her. The blurring faded to a sterile glass and metal made room, the ceiling pulsed with blue electrical lights.

Her hands tried to raise to her face but hard leather straps held them to the slab she laid on. Those same leather straps held her ankles and waist as her surroundings cleared before her. Machines with humming unfamiliar power sat to one of her sides, long intricate tubing connecting to her veins by long needles.

A strange liquid flowed through her blood, something cold yet not inciting shivers through her as the machine continued its purpose.

Panic set in, a feeling she wasnt familiar with as her gaze set on a name listed on a large screen in the room.

Subject 13: Seren Caelis

Young Adult Female

The name felt safe, that was who she was. Seren felt another wave of panic and fear as a small cry echoed through the walls. A child, crying and moaning from down a hallway she could barely make out from the small window to her room.

Then more sounds of pain and sadness echoed through her ears, computers, machines, people, she could oddly hear everything around her. Footsteps fell close by pausing her moment of confusion.

" Subject 13 has stabilized, awaiting memory archives and stabilization will be complete." A robotic male voice came from the hallway. Seren tried to sit up as best she could while the leather trapped her to the metal slate she lay on.

"Liquid transfer was successful but something in her neurons seems to be blocking our other receptors."

Another male voice, equally as robotic, hummed again. Her heart raced with the urgency that this was not a place to stay in. People here meant danger and that was all she could focus on, not why or how. The leather straps tapped at the end of their strain while she awaited her captors.

" if subject awakens, we can move to the next step, her body will accept it eventually."

One of the voices rang again as the door to her metal prison splits open. Two lab coated individuals entered, both wearing masks of reflecting metal making their features unknown. They paused as Seren made what she assumed was eye contact to their featurless faces.

" Subject has awoken, heart rate is quickening, but functions seem normal." One speaks up as they moved closer, a rather large orb like robot followed them inside.

" administer sedation protocol, subject not yet ready for full transmission." He speaks to the robot who hovers with a long arm, a needle wet with an unknown liquid attached to the end. Seren's heart pounded in her ears, the words danger and run floating around her head.

She didnt want to know what else they would be doing to her, this thought alone surged through her body until they all heard the snapping of thick leather. The sound, loud and sharp caused the room to pause, all eyes lay on her broken restraints.

" subject has broken free, capture her!" One of the men shouted towards the floating machine. Its body launching towards Seren, needle ready to break skin and her fight.

Flying from her metal bed, the white medical gown flowing with her throughout the sterilized room as she tears the other tubing and needles from her flesh. The robot lunged for her, shooting out its needle at a speed unknown to humans.

Bright electrical light blinds as Seren turns her head, expecting to feel the sting of a needle. Her eyes open and widen with shock, a large blade made from something like air and smoke but thick and sharp like the finest of metals, is held in her hand.

A muscle memory she was not familiar with blocking the needle from entering her neck. She shoves the needle aside, the surprised and scared figures of the medical men frozen behind the deadly machine.

" Security breach! Shut it down, Subject 13 must be captured!" One man yelled into a computer like device attached to his wrist.

Red alarms rang painfully throughout the room as the floating robot came to a crash on the ground, split in two. Seren held her weapon tightly, waiting till later to question her newly found abilities. The only door sat open on the other side of the masked men and that meant her freedom was close by.

The lab coated men moved quickly out of the way, not brave enough to deal with something way out of their control. Her eyes followed her way out down a metal corridor lined with rooms similar to hers.

A little girl, no older than seven, lay strapped emotionless to a metal bed, her blank eyes staring at the ceiling, the same tubes inserted into her skin. Women filled some of the other rooms, most lost in despair with no fight left in their eyes.

Women and children treated as nothing but experiments lined the halls she ran down. Tears stung her vision at the sight but her instinct kept telling her to run and she ran. Alarms blaring around her made it hard to hear the heavy footsteps of security coming her way but it seemed like luck was on her side.

An elevator at the end of the last hallway she finds hits her attention. Its metal doors opening into a dark room, a safe place that will lead to her freedom. The urgent foot falls behind her started to come with the shouting of orders, find subject 13 not matter what, was all she heard.

Seren closes the elevator door and pushes the button labeled for lobby. Her memories may be gone but she was still familiar with certain surroundings, her vision having become sharper helped with this.

The metal doors open into a bustling lobby, guards huddle in groups as they make rounds, alarms still blaring all around them. Scientists and other coated individuals ran around in urgency, all looking for her.

Seeing an emergency exit to the back of the glassed building, she makes a run for it, safety at its threshold. Shouting sounds around her, footsteps fall quickly behind but none as fast as she seemed to be.

The fresh oiled air of a city hits her nose first as she breaks free from her metal prison. Neon lights and moving ads hit her vision, a place so unfamiliar she had no idea where to start or where to hide.
