The camp was quiet. Smoke rose from broken stones. The giant eye in the sky had closed. The Veil Quake had stopped for now.
Lira and Mira knelt beside Kai.
He lay on the ground, eyes closed, breathing slow and shallow.
Mira gently shook his shoulder.
"Kai? Wake up. Please wake up. We won, right?"
Lira placed her hand on his chest. Her silver threads glowed softly as she checked his fate lines.
"He is alive. His heart is beating. But… the threads are messy. I cannot see clearly what is inside him now."
Elder Voss limped over. His face looked tired and worried.
"The crystal took most of the god power. But we do not know how much stayed with the boy. We must be careful."
Kai's eyelids fluttered.
He opened his eyes slowly.
They were normal. Dark brown. No purple. No misty gray.
He looked at Lira and Mira and gave a weak smile.
"Hey… did we win?"
Mira hugged him tight, laughing and crying.
"You idiot! You scared us so much! Do not do that again!"
Lira smiled through her tears. She helped him sit up.
"You did it, Kai. You pushed them back. The fused god is gone from the sky."
Kai sat up slowly. His body hurt everywhere. He felt empty, like something heavy had been taken out.
He checked his status screen.
Status Update
Fractured Echo Weaver Level 7
Active Echoes: 9/10
Overlap Risk: 41 percent Stable
God Fragment Status: Nyxar and Veyra sealed inside the broken crystal (weakened)
Warning: Small pieces of both gods still remain in your body. They are quiet for now, but they may wake up again.
Kai read it twice.
"They are not completely gone. But they are weak. I can feel them… sleeping."
Elder Voss nodded.
"That is the best we could hope for. The crystal absorbed most of their power. You pushed the rest out during the ritual. But some fragments stayed with you. We will need to watch you closely."
Mira grinned.
"So you are back to being our normal Kai? With funny voices and everything?"
Kai tried to speak.
For a second, nothing happened.
Then the voices returned, but they were quieter and softer.
Reginald said politely, "One is quite tired after that ordeal."
Jax added, "But we can still punch if needed."
Shadow whispered, "Let us rest first."
Kai laughed. It sounded almost normal.
"They are still here, but they are not fighting me anymore. It feels… different. Like roommates instead of bosses."
Lira helped him stand.
"You chose yourself in the end. That is why you are still here. I am proud of you."
Kai looked around at the destroyed camp. Many breakers were hurt. The tower was gone. The big crystal was shattered into pieces on the ground.
He felt guilty.
"I am sorry. I brought this mess here."
Elder Voss shook his head.
"You did not bring it. The gods were coming anyway. You fought them when most people would have given up. That is something to be proud of."
Mira started picking up small pieces of the broken crystal.
"Look! These pieces still have a little power. I can make special cards from them! God Card collection, here I come!"
Kai smiled.
"Only you would think about collecting right now."
They helped the wounded breakers. Some had minor injuries. A few were unconscious but alive.
As they worked, Kai felt the small god fragments stir inside him.
Nyxar whispered weakly, "We will return one day."
Veyra added softly, "And when we do, you will be ready."
Kai pushed them down gently.
"Not today. Today I am just Kai."
The sky was still cracked, but the giant eye was gone. The purple rain had stopped.
Elder Voss looked at the horizon.
"The big Quake is coming soon. We must repair what we can and prepare. Kai, you will stay with us for now. We will teach you how to control the remaining fragments."
Kai nodded.
"Good. I do not want to lose myself again."
Later that evening, they sat around a small fire.
Mira showed off her new cards.
"Look! I made a 'Kai's Real Voice' card. It plays your normal laugh when I throw it."
She threw it. A soft laugh echoed around the fire. Everyone smiled.
Lira sat close to Kai.
"How do you feel now?"
Kai thought for a moment.
"Tired. But alive. And grateful. Without you two, I would have been lost forever."
He looked at both of them.
"Thank you. Really."
Mira grinned. "Group hug!"
They hugged. For the first time in a long while, Kai felt like himself again. But deep inside, he knew the peace would not last.
The small god fragments were quiet now.
The Veil was still breaking and somewhere out there, other gods were watching. The real fight was far from over.
Kai looked up at the cracked sky.
He whispered to himself,
"I am still here. And I will keep fighting."
