"Yeah." Mia's voice steadied. "So if there's anything you need, please let us know. Mom and I are here to take care of you."
Vessara nodded, her throat too tight for words. She couldn't imagine it—the loss, the grief, the weight of carrying that pain alone. She pressed her palm to her stomach, where life stirred beneath her hand.
What would it be like to lose this? Would she be able to deal with the grief and loss?
She pushed the thought away immediately.
"What about work?" she asked, desperate to shift the conversation. "Don't you have to fight?"
Mia laughed. She rose from the bed, her movements fluid and strong. "I'm on break now. I can't stay focused in the ring knowing my big brother needs tutoring."
Vessara laughed. Tension that had built eased out. She rose to her feet, her legs steadier now, and followed Mia's lead.
