I woke up that morning not knowing what the day had planned for me…
But something about it felt different.
"Today felt more colorful than any other day."
I freshened up, ate my breakfast quietly, and got ready for school.
Bag on my shoulders, shoes tightened, I stepped out.
As I walked toward school, my usual shortcut took me right past her house.
And for the first time…
"My steps paused on their own."
I don't know why, but a part of me wanted to just stand there for a moment.
Her face from yesterday kept flashing in my mind — her teasing smile, her warm words.
Yesterday's pain still hurt, but walking with her had left something… hopeful.
But then I thought,
"What if her parents see me? They'll misunderstand…"
So I started walking again, heart beating a little faster than normal.
But after a few steps,
I heard a voice from behind.
"Hey!"
I turned around, and it was her.
A familiar face I had known for 2–3 years…
but never spoken to, all because of my quiet nature.
She smiled at me and said teasingly,
"You were waiting just for me, right?"
I wiped off the leftover tear marks and softly said,
"No… my house is a little ahead, I walk this route every day."
She grinned, her tone playful,
"Wow, we met yesterday… and again today. Before that, we never did!"
She was cheerful — bright, like sunshine after a storm.
Her energy was infectious, pulling me out of my morning doubts.
I was about to ask her name when suddenly she said,
"Let's go, we'll be late for school."
I nodded silently, and we started walking together.
Her steps matched mine, and for the first time in days, the walk to school didn't feel lonely. On the way, she asked just one thing:
"What's on your bucket list?"
I paused, confused.
"Bucket list?"
I had never heard that word properly before. She chuckled,
"Those final wishes you want to complete in life... that's all I know too."
Then she added quickly,
"But listen, you shouldn't tell anyone your wish… or it won't come true.
You too, don't tell… better that way."
And I smiled.
A real smile, small but genuine.
But inside… something stirred.
"My bucket list?"
I had never really thought about that.
What would I even write in it?
Maybe…
"To be loved just as I am."
or
"To feel important for someone, even once."
But then I brushed it off with a soft laugh.
"What if someone finds out?"
"Forget it… no one will ever know."
In that quiet moment,
I mentally wrote something on my invisible bucket list.
Something big. Something scary. Something… hopeful.
And then suddenly—
"Where did you get lost?!"
Her voice brought me back.
"We've reached school, the bell rang! It's assembly time. Hurry!"
She lightly grabbed my wrist and started running.
Her hand was warm, her grip firm but gentle.
And I?
I followed her.
Without thinking.
Without hesitation.And just like that…
"That day began. "
To be countinue….
