Shayna looked at Rebel, hating the fact that she was annoyed at her despite it not being her fault.
"He did something bad, didn't he?" Rebel realised as everybody looked at her.
"What did that scumbag do now?" Munay asked, exasperated.
"Nothing", Shayna wanted to say but the words did not come out of her mouth.
She gulped down a large amount of beer instead.
"He was fucking another woman", Dmitri cleared and Shayna coughed violently.
The only man on earth more blunt than she was.
"Wait, seriously?" Munay whispered as the rest just continued normally, "Isn't he sort of obsessed with you?"
"He's obsessed with my body", Shayna cleared, picking up more beer, "So he goes around and fucks women who look like me."
"That would explain Emilia", Dmitri nodded, unconsciously.
"Who's Emilia?" Rebel asked, turning to him.
"She's Christian Darmos' daughter. Very annoying but she's a redhead and has a nice enough body", Dmitri shrugged.
"Ewww", Munay exclaimed, "That bitch looks nothing like Shayna."
"Plus she has plastic surgery all over her", Mairi agreed, "She got her breasts done, buccal fat removal, both eyelids, nose, forehead, hip surgery, liposuction for her thighs and her stomach stapled. Plus she wears neon fucking pink all the time."
"I think she looks ok", Dmitri sighed as Mairi shot him a furtive glance, "As long as none of that Botox oozes out of her."
"But she doesn't hold a candle to you."
There it was, Dmitri's smooth butter like flirting.
"I don't hold a candle to your fiancée though", she added, awkwardly.
Dmitri turned to look at Mairi, scanning her messy hair and oversized hoodie along with squashed beer bottle in her palm.
"She's gorgeous", he nodded, carelessly "But you're pretty good looking too."
Mairi did not say anything. She just visibly brightened as Dmitri said it.
"Did you wear that to rile him up?" Munay smiled, glancing at Shayna who looked down.
"You should have gone with a "Damian-Fraser-is-a-cunthead shirt", Mairi laughed.
"I am gonna find that shirt", Shayna nodded, smiling.
"When you do, buy me twenty", Munay laughed, opening up a chips packet.
"So what do you guys wanna do?" Mairi asked, letting her hair loose, "Watch Titanic together?"
"I'm in", Rebel and Munay nodded simultaneously.
"What are you guys, a bunch of horny teenagers?" Dmitri laughed, grabbing a couple of chips.
"Says the man gossiping with a bunch of women", Mairi smiled, "Now pass me the remote."
Dmitri shrugged before picking up the pillow and grabbing a grease-stained remote.
"You are nasty", he said, quietly handing her the remote, "There are oil fingerprints on every fucking inch of this house. Your phone screen is nearly translucent."
Shayna smiled before something suddenly struck the back of her head.
My phone!
Shit.
And Craig!
I needed to be at work! That stupid project!
Craig must be blowing up my phone right now.
Little does he know, it's buried in some rabbit hole outside an old garage in the woods.
"What happened?" Dmitri had noticed Shayna's face going pale.
"I need to...get somewhere, really quickly. Or I'm gonna be in a lot of shit", Shayna cursed, getting up from the couch.
"I can take care of your work if you want to just stay and watch Titanic", Dmitri replied seriously, getting up.
I would love that.
"No, that's my shit. I need to take care of it", Shayna waved off.
"Well, at least let him drop you off", Mairi replied, straightening her torso.
"Yeah and people would not doubt at all that Dmitri-fucking-Vassalis, CEO of the biggest construction company in Greece, is dropping off some random, average corporate employee in his flashy Porsche, four days before his marriage."
Yeah, I do my research.
"Fine then, smartass", Dmitri sat back down and turned to the TV, "I'll get some sleep. Wake me up at Kate's nude painting scene."
Mairi 'gently' tapped him on the shoulders with the remote.
Almost like a family
"Don't miss me ",Shayna muttered in barely a whisper, before slowly walking away.
....
"Where the hell have you been?" Craig screamed in a tone somewhere between a really shrill bat and a rather constipated hippopotamus.
His eyes stopped at the sight of Shayna's state, dried blood and scarring all over her pale skin.
"I got into an accident", Shayna muttered, "Lost my phone too, God knows where."
"Uhh", he seemed flustered, "You should have still informed us somehow. The work...we were all waiting on you."
"I'm sorry."
"No, it's...uhhh..Okay. Are you alright now?" he asked, though a sense of urgency remained stiffened somewhere.
"Yeah", Shayna nodded, trying to sound in pain, "I think I'll manage."
"Good", Craig's tone had completely changed. He grabbed a really thick brown folder from the table nearby and tossed it at her.
"Because I need you to meet a really important client regarding the project in fifteen minutes."
Fifteen ?
I'm not superhuman, you dumbass.
"And he's really, really important. So, it is very crucial that we give him our utmost best behavior."
Do I look like a fucking child on her first day of kindergarten?
"Yes sir", Craig immediately nodded, "Theodore is busy with some work for the moment but I'll send him to you later."
I'd rather you not send that baboon with a stick up his ass at all.
"Ok sir."
"Yeah, and uhh, you really need to hurry because less than thirteen minutes are left", Craig muttered, his eyes on the watch.
Oh, fuck.
*.....
Thirty minutes later, she was sitting in Macrae's, the thick red folder open in front of her, singing "Born This Way".
A fucking classic.
Her suit sleeve curved painfully on her wrist as she clicked it back. Not having many options, she had changed into Mei's work clothes, not considering the really considerable size difference between them.
She was also probably walking around in a tent, so.....
The waitress appeared at her end of the table. Her hair was done up and she had a sour expression on her face.
"Anything I can get you, ma'am?" she asked, flatly.
"Maybe a glass of apple juice", Shayna nodded, before turning back to her file.
She visibly sighed before writing it on her notepad.
I know that you hate your job, but you can at least pretend like I am doing.
"No, nothing", Shayna went back to her file. There were more important things in her life than a dried ass teenager.
The waitress made sure to mouth "cheap" to another waitress across the room, making sure Shayna could see it.
Shayna maintained eye contact with her for a few seconds.
"If you think you can bruise my ego into spending more, you got the wrong girl", Shayna smiled, "I spend less money when I'm petty."
The waitress gave her a flabbergasted stare, before walking off muttering something.
I could have instead been sitting upside down squished down by my friends while drooling over DiCaprio, so I'm not particularly happy to be here either.
"Americano, number 47", a woman in the front yelled out.
A rather ragged-looking man stood up from one of the corner side tables.
Shayna side-glanced at him, her eyes recognizing him as she had seen him enter a few minutes ago, wiping his hand off on his pants.
Poor dude.
Her eyes spotted an expensive watch on his right wrist.
The boy was probably from some richer, A-list family, who had probably been kicked out due to some older generation tantrum.
Those rich old hags would rather die in their bubble of illusion instead of accepting actual people of their blood family.
Long earrings? Maybe was he gay?
That would explain the kicking out.
Shayna's eyes dawdled on the watch. It was a beautiful watch and a rather familiar one.
Do I have something like that in my collection?
She jerked back, suddenly realising that the man had caught her staring.
He was staring right back at her, his blue eyes shimmering.
Rocco!
She jumped off the table before he managed to pull out his gun, her eyes widening in realisation.
