Chapter 45 - Operation—Save Dvalin (Part 1)

In the video chat group—

[La Signora]: Oh my, the Knights of Favonius can't handle Stormterror, but they sure know how to put on a show.

Inside the Goethe Hotel, La Signora stood by the window, her expression cold and disdainful.

She had long hated Mondstadt.

Five hundred years ago, during Durin's rampage, her lover Rostam died in battle. That tragedy turned her into the Crimson Witch of Flames. Later, she joined the Fatui and became the Eighth Harbinger—La Signora, carrying only one purpose: revenge.

This time, she returned to Mondstadt to take the Anemo Archon's Gnosis—and place a "nail" inside the Knights.

Her chosen target was Cao Zhong.

"I really don't understand how anyone could like trash like him," she sneered.

"If I ever did, something would be wrong with my brain."

Her words immediately sparked backlash.

[Diluc]: Mondstadt's affairs are not for the Fatui to interfere in.

[Kaeya]: As if the Fatui have any right to talk.

[Jean]: Control your people, or I'll have you expelled.

[La Signora]: I was going to help with the dragon crisis. Since you're so ungrateful, suffer for it.

Back at the Knights of Favonius headquarters, Jean's eyes turned cold.

Protecting Mondstadt was her duty. She would not allow any threat.

The door creaked open.

She looked up sharply.

"You still dare come here? I thought you'd already fled Mondstadt."

Her hand slowly moved toward her sword.

The person who entered was Cao Zhong.

Jean's feelings toward him were complicated. If the visions were true, she might one day marry him. But his personality was terrible—and he might even join the Fatui.

If necessary, she would deal with him here.

Cao Zhong felt the killing intent immediately.

One wrong sentence and he'd be finished.

He met her gaze calmly.

"I wouldn't run. Someone I care about is here."

Jean paused.

Her expression softened slightly.

"…At least you have some conscience."

She lowered her sword.

Cao Zhong stepped closer and casually took the documents from her hand.

Jean frowned a little at his familiarity, but before she could react, he spoke again.

"Why not leave Stormterror to me?"

Jean stared at him in disbelief.

"Do you even understand what you're saying? That's Dvalin—the Anemo Archon's companion."

Her tone turned firm.

"This isn't something you can handle."

She sighed.

"I've already sent a strike team led by Kaeya to Stormterror's Lair."

Cao Zhong raised an eyebrow.

They already went?

Without Venti… could they even find Dvalin?

Probably not.

Elsewhere, atop the Statue of the Seven, Venti was drinking.

But after seeing the chat, he scratched his head awkwardly.

As the Anemo Archon, Dvalin's situation should have been handled by him.

But he still hadn't acted.

Not because he didn't care—but because he wasn't confident he could save Dvalin safely.

He sighed.

"…Looks like I need to do something."
