Chapter 1 - The Echo of Saiyaara

The night sky over the quiet town shimmered with a thousand scattered stars, but one shone brighter than the rest. Aarav used to call it Saiyaara—his wandering star. He would sit on the terrace for hours, believing that somewhere beyond the darkness, that star carried his dreams.

But tonight, the sky felt different.

Empty.

Aarav leaned against the cold railing, clutching his old guitar. The strings were worn, just like the melodies he used to play. Once, his music had meaning—once, it had her.

Meher.

Her name alone was enough to stir a storm inside him. She had been his voice when words failed, his courage when fear took over. And now, she was just a memory drifting farther away, like that lonely star he could no longer recognize.

"Still chasing stars?" a voice interrupted.

Aarav turned to see Kabir, his childhood friend, holding two cups of tea. Kabir always had that annoying habit of showing up exactly when Aarav wanted to be alone.

"Not anymore," Aarav replied, his voice low.

Kabir handed him the tea anyway. "You say that every time. But you're still here, aren't you?"

Aarav didn't answer. He simply looked up again.

The truth was, he was still searching. Not for fame, not for success—but for something he lost the night Meher walked away.

Months earlier…

The city had been alive with music, lights, and possibilities. Aarav stood backstage, his heart racing as the crowd roared his name. It was his biggest performance yet—the night everything was supposed to change.

And it did.

Just not the way he expected.

He spotted Meher near the exit, her eyes distant, her smile missing. Something felt wrong. Even from afar, he could see it—the silence between them that words could no longer fill.

After the show, he ran to her.

"You're leaving early?" he asked, still breathless from the performance.

Meher hesitated. "Aarav… we need to talk."

Those four words.

They always meant the end of something.

"I got an offer," she continued, her voice trembling. "A chance to study abroad. It's… everything I've worked for."

Aarav forced a smile. "That's amazing. Then why do you look like this is bad news?"

"Because it means leaving," she said softly. "Leaving you."

The world around them seemed to fade. The noise, the lights, the people—none of it mattered anymore.

"You don't have to choose," Aarav said quickly. "We'll figure it out."

Meher shook her head. "Some dreams don't wait, Aarav. And neither does life."

"And what about us?" his voice cracked.

She looked at him, her eyes filled with unshed tears. "Maybe… we were never meant to last. Maybe we were just… a beautiful chapter."

A chapter.

That's all he was to her.

Before he could respond, she stepped back, slowly disappearing into the crowd—just like that star fading into the night.

Present…

Aarav strummed his guitar softly, the melody raw and unfinished. Kabir watched him carefully.

"You're still writing about her, aren't you?" Kabir asked.

Aarav didn't deny it.

"She was never just a song," he said quietly. "She was the reason I started singing in the first place."

Kabir sighed. "Then maybe it's time you finish the song."

Aarav paused, his fingers hovering over the strings.

Finish it.

Could he?

Or was some music meant to remain incomplete—like love that never finds its way back?

He looked up at the sky again. And for a brief moment, he thought he saw it—that same bright star, flickering like a forgotten promise.

"Saiyaara…" he whispered.

Maybe it hadn't disappeared after all.

Maybe it was just waiting… for him to find it again.

To be continued…
