Chapter 3 - Croissant 3: Dawn On The Run

After disappearing from the white room in a blinding flash, Dawn opened his eyes. The first thing he saw? Trees. He was in a lush green forest filled with trees. The sunlight streaming through the cracks of the forest ceiling mixed with the sound of birds chirping made for such a beautiful sight that Dawn couldn't help but stare for a moment.

"Are all the trees in fantasy worlds this big…?" Dawn muttered.

The trees were abnormally large and the forest ceiling so thick that Dawn couldn't even get a good look at the sky. However, he couldn't see any sign of civilization or people nearby. Obviously, he couldn't conquer the world if he was stuck in the middle of nowhere, so he wasn't sure what to do.

Out of all places to arrive at in a fantasy world, I get sent to some random forest with no one in sight…?

In the light novels Dawn had read on earth, usually the protagonist gets sent to a fantasy world and arrives in some cool fantasy-looking starter town or at least outside of a one. So he could only blame his luck for being sent to a random forest right off the bat.

Nearby, Dawn spotted a small clearing with no trees and walked towards it. He arrived at the clearing and looked at the surrounding sky. In the distance, he could see a large mountain, which didn't seem to be that far from his current location.

I need to get a good look at the surrounding area to figure out where I am. I guess I should head toward the mountain and climb it to a higher vantage point… Dawn thought as he started walking in the direction of the mountain.

Did that Bitch Goddess really give me the skill I asked for…? I dont feel all that different. That Bitch Goddess better have not ripped me off!

After walking about fifteen minutes, Dawn heard a sound nearby and stopped in his tracks.

Snoooooore…

…What was that sound…? Should I go investigate it? …No, no! This is a fantasy world, it could be something dangerous like bandits or a monster. …Wait. But if it is a bandit or a monster, this could be a good chance to test if that Bitch Goddess really gave me the skill I asked for. …Yeah, I'll go investigate.

Deciding to investigate, Dawn cautiously walked in the direction of the sound, trying his best not to make any sound. Eventually, he arrived in front of a small clearing. Dawn hid behind a bush and peeked at the source of the sound.

In the small clearing—sitting against a tree—was a large green muscular creature. Based on the loud snoring coming from the creature, it seemed to be sleeping.

Snoooooore…

Is that an orc? …Yeah, that's gotta be an orc. Well I shouldn't be surprised, this is a fantasy world after all.

Orcs were monsters that appeared in almost all of the light novels that Dawn had read on Earth. Dawn, being a NEET that did nothing but read light novels during his last year on Earth, was instantly able to tell that the sleeping creature was an orc.

Hmm, should I just leave? It hasn't noticed me. If I try to fight it and it turns out I didn't get the skill I asked for then I could get injured or die. …No, no, no! What am I saying? This is a perfect opportunity to test my strength! I can't pass it up!

What Dawn wanted most right now was to know how strong he was. In order to start his journey of conquering the world, Dawn needed to know precisely how strong he was and how he measured up to the beings of this world.

Ok! Let's fight this orc! …I feel like I'm forgetting to do something though… Eh, Whatever!

Dawn could have just read the Skill Sheet that explained the details of his skill. But, right now, since he was riding the high of being in a fantasy world, he seemed to have forgotten that the Skill Sheet even existed.

Yeah, I'm just gonna go for it. If that Bitch Goddess didn't lie and I really got the skill I asked for then I should be able to obliterate this orc in one punch. Dawn thought before stepping into the clearing.

Now standing the clearing, Dawn planted his feet and charged towards the orc. Dawn shot towards the orc with unbelievable speed. Unable to maintain his balance due to the unexpected speed, Dawn slipped and shot toward the orc like a rocket.

"Waahhhhh!"

CRASH!

At suppersonic speed, Dawn's head made contact with the orcs chest and pierced straight through. The orc died instantly with a huge hole in its chest. Nevertheless, Dawn kept flying forward like a rocket, piercing the tree behind the orc and a few others before finally losing momentum.

"What the hell was that?! I tried to run at full speed and damn near turned into The Flash!" Dawn shouted as he started to get up from the floor.

Dawn stood up, covered in dirt and orc blood and looking like a walking disaster. Fearing that he might have gotten injured, he looked down at his body. His white t-shirt was covered in orc blood, his black sweatpants were ripped in a few places, and he was missing a sandal. But other than that, he was strangely okay..

"Huh… Even after becoming a human rocket, I'm basically unscathed… It kinda sucks my clothes are ruined though…i got this t-shirt for a good deal…"

W-Well looks like that bitch goddess didn't rip me off after all. …Sorry for doubting you, Bitch Goddess. Dawn apologized to the Bitch Goddess mentally.

Still looking like a walking disaster, Dawn resolved himself to learn how to control his speed and resumed his walk towards the mountain.

Dawn dubbed the earlier attack the Human Rocket and swore to never use it again.
