Back in the medieval age there was a set of people whose entire life was put into one word.
Killing.
These people were known as Vikings, extremely strong individuals who killed and pillaged for a living.
However, even these people, numbed by modern norms had their own kind of entertainment.
Vikings would hold their own kind of sport. Though, not like ours, they were mostly used to settle disputes or find exceptionally talented Vikings for political advantages.
Still, a sport is a sport and those Vikings...
Could have been considered athletes.
Kai's arms that were made useless twitched.
He raised his head to the ceiling.
The wolf had already recovered from his shock.
He found Kai's words laughable. After all, he should already be dead.
The wolf didn't even plan to lift another finger but Kai's arrogant words angered him.
He took a step.
With that single step taken Kai chuckled.
The wolf took one more step, Kai also took one step... into multiple.
It was an almost instant movement in the wolf's eyes that should have been impossible with Kai's injuries.
He wasn't ready and by the time he was Kai was already jumping on him.
YACK!
Kai jumped and latched his teeth into his neck.
One. Big. Bite.
The wolf was startled.
"You little...!" The wolf barely felt the pain. Instead, all it felt was humiliation.
Try as he may, Kai couldn't pierce through the wolf's thick skin.
And yet, he wasn't finished.
His arms that shouldn't be able to move grabbed at the two biggest objects in the wolf's arm.
He plunged them out—
And carved the wolf's skin like a piece of art.
X-marks showed up all over the wolf's skin.
One, two, three...
By the sixteenth mark the two objects shattered.
All of this happened in sixteen gruesomely long seconds for the wolf.
What is this... The wolf questioned, moving further away from Kai.
He saw it all happen but no matter what it did, whether it was dodge, block, or attack—it didn't matter.
It was as if Kai was able to see into the future, predict his pattern and then move accordingly.
And that wasn't even the scariest part to the wolf because...
He was still laughing.
"I am going to kill—" The wolf raised its voice as if it was a defensive instinct.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to finish as his throat was cut right open.
It healed back right away alongside all his other wounds, but it was meaningless.
Because—
Kai. kept. laughing.
"DIE!!!" The wolf couldn't take it anymore.
Kai's laughs were both natural and unnatural to the wolf.
They sounded genuinely happy.
Sometimes, they sounded calm and unsettling, like a man who saw too much of the universe's dangers.
And sometimes...
He was driven by a laughter filled with insanity.
The wolf became shaken with fear.
The predator became the prey and it drove Kai even more insane from the entertainment—the pleasure coursing through his veins because of this tomfoolery he was experiencing that couldn't be found on Earth.
The metaphor of it all made it impossible for him to stop laughing as he took out more objects from the wolf's arm and continued his madness.
He laughed and a wound appeared on the wolf.
Another laugh, more wounds.
More laughs, more wounds.
More laughs, more wounds...
The wolf tried everything it could, but it just couldn't catch or escape Kai.
"You slippery Mirefang!" He shouted as his fear finally reached its maximum.
At this rate I am really going to die!
He screamed to himself, unable to comprehend how this was happening.
That's when he recalled a certain millennia-old story.
"This... are you a shadow?" The wolf asked with a frightened tone as he realized his predicament.
His wounds won't heal. No—it was more like they refused to be healed.
Kai stopped his assault and smirked.
"Bingo."
He said one word and that one word sent shivers down the wolf's spine. Shivers he had never felt in his entire life.
Horror flashed across his eyes as he made his escape.
Kai was stunned by his actions.
"Do you really think you can escape a shadow? Blitz Infinity!" He shouted.
Ryker who had already overpowered the other wolf sighed.
"Play time is over!" He yelled and in a very quick manner tore out the front of the wolf's throat.
Before the wolf could even react, Ryker continued by plunging his fist straight into the wolf's chest.
His hand grabbed onto the wolf's heart and he forced it out with a bloodthirsty look.
Blood spurted out everywhere.
With his heart gone, the wolf's wounds could not heal.
Face filled with shock all the wolf could do was stare at Ryker who crushed his heart and splashed its remains in his mouth with a crazy look.
"Demon." That was the last thing the wolf said before his eyes went berserk.
He let out a vengeful roar!
The wolf went mad!
Instead of falling dead after losing his heart, his eyes went crimson.
All he could see was blood.
All he wanted was blood!
"Round Two?!" Ryker who was enjoying a feast he couldn't obtain on Earth was overjoyed.
The wolf didn't share his thoughts as he let out another vengeful roar.
His fist then crashed into Ryker with a force even stronger than before!
Ryker who couldn't say no to a challenge laughed and did the same.
Their two fists met and Ryker was sent flying.
The wolf kept up its tempo and followed after him.
Kai who saw this clicked his tongue.
"They must think very highly of us if they sent a Vengeful Wolf after us."
A Vengeful Wolf is a wolf who even after it dies won't go down until its killer is dead!
Not only that, but its strength is also doubled in this state.
Of course, there are also other ways to make a Vengeful Wolf completely die. One was to wait until morning.
Seeing the excited look on Ryker's face told Kai all he needed.
He didn't even check how many hours were left until daylight.
Instead, he checked his wounds and saw how bad they were.
I can survive another eight minutes at most. Ten if I force it.
He thought as he turned to face Angel_Heart who hadn't done anything since the start of the battle.
She stood frozen in a corner.
Kai turned back to the wolf who was getting away and noticed he wasn't actually trying to escape.
He instead went to Angel_Heart and wrapped his big hands over her throat.
"Give up your lives and we will let her go!" Shouted the wolf so both Kai and Ryker could hear him.
Ryker obviously ignored the wolf as he continued exchanging blows that tore open his own flesh with the other wolf.
Kai knowing Ryker, clicked his tongue as clarity came back to him.
Unlike Ryker, it wasn't exactly easy for him to be fully taken over by his madness.
He replied to the wolf, "You must be a newbie just like me."
His reply got the wolf blinking.
"What?"
Kai shook his head and continued, "I mean if you weren't a newbie then you would have escaped instead of taking a Seraphae hostage."
Seeing the confusion written on the wolf's face made Kai sigh. He felt boredom taking him over as he turned to Angel_Heart instead.
"When are you going to show us your greatness?" He questioned her as she finally escaped her stupor.
The way she was feeling was understandable. After all, the combat prowess both Kai and Ryker displayed would have easily put them into C-rank in the games.
And yet, they were just two newbies from a race she had never heard of!
"You two... are you potential kings?" She couldn't help but ask, completely ignorant to the fact that she was being held by the throat.
Kai hummed in annoyance at the same question being asked every time by multiple different players.
"Get away from him so I can kill him!" He chose to ignore the question as time was pressing and his wounds were getting far worse.
Angel_Heart saw this and nodded.
"Rebound." She announced and the club symbols in her halo spun.
They spun so fast that her white halo became pitch black.
And then, the wolf whose hands were holding her throat had them forcefully taken off!
Like a rock bouncing off a flat surface, his hands bounced off and the magical rebound sent him flying.
Kai quick on his feet, rushed at the wolf with two knives in hand.
"Damn!" The wolf, although a newbie as Kai guessed, didn't let this unexpected turn of events lead him to death.
He used the momentum from the rebound to quickly escape from Kai's house!
He was already on his way to escape when he grabbed Angel_Heart. He had even positioned himself near the exit so that if anything went wrong he could escape smoothly.
He was simply too fast even for Kai who could only watch as he made his escape.
"Fuck." Kai muttered.
"He may be a newbie but he sure is smart."
He admired as he fell to his knees and coughed up a huge mouthful of blood.
Angel_Heart quickly went to heal him.
Her Doctor role started to show as a green light spread over Kai's body.
His wounds were immediately healed.
"Use your ability on the Vengeful Wolf." He said, his complexion more rosy than pale.
"Why?" She asked, confused.
"Do as I say." Hummed Kai.
Not wanting to anger him after not doing anything all this time, Angel_Heart followed his instructions.
The Vengeful Wolf who had the advantage over Ryker suddenly felt pain wreck its body.
The wounds Ryker inflicted on it started acting up and his nerves that were supposed to stop functioning came back alive.
The Vengeful Wolf roared as it couldn't take the pain.
He looked at Ryker as regret and hatred flashed through his eyes.
He fell truly dead.
