Chapter 22 - Execution

Some time later, the game announced,

At that exact moment, a diamond-shaped clock appeared above the middle plaza.

It hovered above everyone's head, its hands ticking slowly but surely.

"..."

No one uttered a word.

It was quiet, very quiet, but Kai could imagine what was going on in every player's head.

They were very wary of the player named Fisher.

This made Kai realize two things: these players were familiar with Fisher, and there were barely any newbies in the game.

At the thought of newbies, Kai gave the feather-dressed lady a look and saw she was giving him and Ryker a friendly smile.

She is definitely a Hearts Handler.

Kai sneered once more but didn't let what he was feeling on the inside show.

Instead, he smiled back.

She wants to play, so let's play.

Oh! We're going to play her to death, I see, I see! Ryker laughed inside.

She better hope she's a Sheep Dweller.

Kai's eyes flashed with a cruel light before he went on to check all the possible roles.

Two roles stood out to him: one made him let out a satisfied hum, while the other made him sigh softly.

These two roles were Doctor and Seer.

For some reason, these two roles were highlighted, meaning they were 100% in the game.

Unlike his and Ryker's roles, which were just shrouded in gray shadows, much like every other player's role.

Of course, no one knew who these two players were.

But Kai had an idea who the Doctor was just from looking at the twenty-three players.

As for the Seer, he had five suspects.

The first was a fairy-like creature.

She was tiny, so tiny she was barely the size of his fist.

She had blonde hair that sprinkled tiny sparks around her small figure and big green eyes that blinked with curiosity.

Her name was:

The second was somewhat human with dark-brown skin.

However, below her waist was a long scaly tail that wiggled back and forth.

Her hair was slippery green, and her reptilian eyes were the same color.

She was looking around cautiously, afraid of looking directly into the other players' eyes.

Her name was:

The third was:

She had given Kai a bad vibe from the start.

As expected of a Hearts Handler, the reason for his wariness against her.

The fourth player was similar to Key_Warrior.

His name was:

And the last player caught Kai's interest.

Her complexion was extremely pale, as if she hadn't gone into the sun for centuries.

Her eyes glowed a dark-red color, her black hair reached her back, and her ears were pointy like those of an elf.

Kai assumed she was a vampire just from those features.

Her name was:

She seems too calm.

Kai thought.

Nytht was acting similarly to Fisher, which made him believe she was an expert player.

However, what made him think she was a Seer was because from time to time she would look at certain players before licking her lips.

She had done that to both him and Ryker about five times in the short span of time that had passed.

As Kai was observing all the players and the silence continued, the game announced the end of the discussion phase.

Although, instead of a discussion phase, it had been more of a staring contest since no one had uttered a word.

However, that didn't last long.

"I cast my vote on JohnDoe."

A player by the name declared.

Before JohnDoe could utter a word, another player jumped in.

"And why should we vote someone who is possibly a Sheep Dweller?" the player asked with curious eyes.

His name was:

"Are you a Hungry Sheep by chance?"

Zyphor laughed.

"Me? Hah, no. I just think a scumbag like JohnDoe should be denied the privilege of life!"

He roared, his face revealing a great deal of anger.

His explanation got a lot of players nodding.

"I agree. JohnDoe is the biggest scum in the games."

"He once impersonated my sister's husband to rob the I.C.C. Well, that brother-in-law of mine is now in Hearts Heaven!"

"He stole my species' most valuable item!"

"He impersonated our Emperor and raped our Empress!"

"Fuck that guy! Just vote him out!"

Meanwhile, Kai watched the show wishing he had popcorn.

Amazing acting.

He praised while giving Zyphor a nod that the man did not see.

Is this Zyphor guy trying to...

Before Ryker could finish, Kai answered.

Yeah, and there's nothing we can do about it.

I don't know if he's a natural-born Hearts Handler, but he already influenced a great deal of players to vote for JohnDoe even with the cards being banned.

Kai then smiled as he looked at Fisher and JohnDoe.

But I'm sure these experts won't just let him have the win.

Zyphor, seeing so many players cast their votes already, gave Dravik a wary look.

"Don't tell me you are in cohorts with that scum?"

His question immediately got a lot of players to start judging Dravik.

As for Dravik, he sighed and simply shrugged with a shake of his head.

His eyes flashed with annoyance as he said,

"I really hate being paired with trash players who fall for the words of a Hearts Handler so easily."

"..."

The players who had voted all wore strange expressions as they realized they had just been played.

Players like Nytht chuckled but didn't vote, as it didn't matter since the bare minimum required to eliminate a player had already been reached against JohnDoe.

As for JohnDoe, he continued to impersonate Fisher, not giving a response.

It was as if all he cared about was pissing off Fisher and not their idle actions.

This got those players who voted for him to feel their stomachs burning.

<12 votes have been cast against JohnDoe>

"Haha! Easy victory!!!"

Zyphor dropped the act and let out a wild bellow while looking at the players who had fallen for his influence like they were idiots.

"You... you're an Instigator!"

One of the players who had fallen for his influence shouted.

"Damn right, you idiot."

Zyphor sneered at the player who was currently trembling in fear and rage.

An Instigator was a Strange Sheep whose objective was to get another player voted out!

Zyphor ignored those eleven players and looked at Fisher and the rest.

"To defeat a Vampy who's ranked number thirteen on the rankings is satisfying as hell!"

He uttered while staring at Nytht.

Nytht gave him a warm smile.

"Congrats."

She said as a rope came floating from the sky.

The rope landed in the middle plaza.

Zyphor then turned to JohnDoe.

"To think that even in the face of death, you can still keep up that act."

He said, casting a disgusted look at him.

It was unknown whether what he had said to influence the eleven players reflected his true feelings or not.

JohnDoe simply kept up his act.

However, he found it hard not to reveal a smile.

Zyphor didn't see that smile as he turned to the last player who got him the most excited.

Fisher.

"To defeat the legendary Fisher is truly a feat worth bragging about for centuries!"

He said, praising himself.

Fisher, on the other hand, didn't even try to hide his disdain, which just made Zyphor let out a delighted laugh.

At the same time, the rope came closer.

However, to everyone's surprise, it didn't go toward JohnDoe.

"What?"

As Zyphor and the other players looked on in confusion, the game announced once again.

The announcement shocked everyone.

At the announcement, the rope accelerated toward Zyphor.

"NOOO!!!"

Zyphor tried to run, but nothing in this universe could defy the game's authority.

The rope lashed itself around his neck mere seconds after he started running.

"GET OFF M—"

Before he could finish, the rope tightened and raised him into the sky.

He immediately lost his voice, his mouth gaping for air, his eyes trying to shed tears, but none came out causing them to swell red.

He struggled to get the rope off...

He truly did.

But all that struggling only made the pain greater.

Made the pain last longer.

Ten seconds later, his struggle ceased.
